Program Plan

(Draft)

1. Program Background
The traditional fine arts of eachcountry represent the quintessence of the
accumulated wisdom, civilization and history of its nations, the fruits of exploration
and innovation of pioneers and results of cultural exchanges and integration.
The inheritance, development and innovation of culture and art need ideas and
efforts of all sectors of society. Nowadays, the culture and art shows a diversifiedand
international developing trend in a globalized world. It is significant to stick to the
original aspiration and keep efforts on one hand, and stand on the shoulder of giants
by learning from each other.
In June 2020, Shanghai Art Collection Museum and fellow institutions will hold
the 10th International Exhibition of Traditional Fine Arts with the theme of “Many a
Little Makes a Mickle”. This event is not only an extension and improvementof the
9th International Exhibition of Traditional Fine Arts, but also a commemoration to
celebrate the 15th Cultural and Natural Heritage Day of China.
The International Exhibition of Traditional Fine Arts is a well-known and well-
respected brand exhibition with great social impact. It’s also a high-end international
platform for cultural exchanges. After ten-year hard work, Shanghai Art Collection
Museum accumulated a wide range of art resource and communication channels
around the world. Due to the efforts of all parties, the exhibition is included in the
projects issued by Shanghai Municipal Party Committee and People’s Government to
construct and plan the brand “Shanghai Culture” and listed into the “Revitalization
Plan of Shanghai Traditional Arts and Crafts” issued by Shanghai Government.
Besides, it is regarded as a key project to promote the cultural exchanges between
1
Shanghai and its “sister cities” involved in the “Belt & Road” initiative.
The previous 9 exhibitions received strong support from governmental
departments, professional organizations, artists and other sectors of society from all
over the world. More than 1200 famous calligraphers, painters, masters of arts and
crafts, members from various art academies, “Living National Treasures”, etc. have
taken part in the exhibitions.
The previous 1st to 7th International (Shanghai) Intangible Cultural Heritage
Protection Forums and the 1st to 5th International (Shanghai) Cultural Tourism
Program Promotion Conferences held at the same period were highly praisedfor its
high scale and quality. Hundreds of media agencies including CCTV, NHK, KBS and
Consulates General in Shanghaigave detailed reports and interviews on three events
every year.
Along with the 10th International Exhibition, the 8th International (Shanghai)
Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection Forum and the 6th International (Shanghai)
Cultural Tourism Program Promotion Conference will be held
simultaneously.Governmental leaders, representatives from professional institutions
and academies, experts, scholars, famous artists and intangible cultural heritage
(“ICH” for short in the following text) inheritors from different countries will be
invited to share their long-term efforts and experience on the inheritance and
innovative protection of ICH and to explore diversified methods for the cultural
exchange and development.
Many a little makes a mickle. We will stick to this spirit and keep moving in the
