“ReaDealism”

Being the father of one country is probably the toughest job you could ever have. As a
President, you will be highest official and most powerful person in the country, and as stated on
Article VII, Sec.1 of the 1987 Philippine Constitution President is the head of state, head of
government, and functions as the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.
Also, being in that position means it carries a big responsibility in solving gargantuan problems
besetting the country ---- eradicate poverty, preserve human rights, and promote general welfare
of the people.

Now, the questions would be are: first, how? How will the President address the concerns
of the people? ; second, what can be the best way or best strategy for meeting all the concerns, is
it through realism, idealism, rationalism, or extremism?

Realism is an approach to the study and practice of international politics. It emphasizes

the role of the nation-state and makes a broad assumption that all nation-states are motivated by
national interests, or, at best, national interests disguised as moral concerns. Or to put it simply,
realism or Political realism is dealing with politics as they are in reality; dealing with things as
they are. Idealism or Political idealism refers to having a utopian idea of the world to strive for.
These ideals are commonly presented as something that could be reality in the future. Examples
of these are the Theory of Ideas by Plato, which states that objects in our world are only illusions
that are derived from examples in some parallel reality known as the World of Ideas. In other
words, Political idealism is dealing with politics as an ideal; dealing with things as they should
be. Rationalism or Political Rationalism is a theory that reason is in itself a source of knowledge
superior to and independent of sense perceptions. It is a view that reason and experience rather
than the non-rational are the fundamental criteria in the solution of problems. In short, it is the
reliance on reason as the basis for establishment of truth; dealing with things as what the reason
suggest. Lastly, Extremism or Political Extremism is any political theory favoring immoderate
uncompromising policies. It is a tendency to go to extremes or an instance of going extremes
especially in politics. It is also refers to an ideology that is considered to be far outside the
mainstream attitudes of society. In short, dealing with things as to think and advocate beyond the
norm.

Within the definition above of the ISMS of politics and if I would be given the
opportunity to become the President of the Philippines, I think the best way to eradicate poverty,
preserve human rights, and promote general welfare of the people is the right mix or combination
of the two; the political realism and political idealism.
Political Realism says that dealing with things as what they are. It is just right to deal
with thing as to what they are. For example, a person named A killed his neighbor, B. It is right
that A should be in jail because that’s against the natural law and physical law. And that’s how
realism works; it is based on what the world gives you, it is based on how you should act to
things because it is the reality. So as a President, I think it will be really helpful to address those
concerns; to preserve human rights the best way is to enhance the law about the human rights of
the person. Make sure that all persons are treated equally and no person will be deprived of their
own rights. Because in reality, there’s already a law that protects the rights it should just need to
intensify it to fully make sure that no one will be deprived of. It is the same thing that goes with
the promotion of general welfare of the people. In reality, there’s a thing called police power
which is one of the inherent powers of the state. Police power it is the power of promoting the
public welfare by restraining and regulating the use of both liberty and property of all the people.
In short, it is for public good and for the general welfare of the people. However, for the
eradication of poverty the best way for that is through Political idealism; on how to deal with
things as what they ought to be. Why? For about how many decades passed and how many
Presidents have passed in the Philippines. It seems that the problem regarding poverty is always
present and it seem it seems unlikely to be lost unless of one way, --- and that is to think in the
idealism context. Like what I’ve said that it seems poverty is always present that’s only mean
that whatever approach (in realism context) to eradicate the poverty seems not so effective and I
think it would be better to think as an idealist. In the idealism context it says that way of thinking
that can be happen in the future or setting goals that seems impossible or grandiose. But just like
what other said, ‘there’s no harm in trying and believing’; believe on to those things that can be
really helpful to eradicate the poverty in the future. And that’s the good characteristic of
idealism, it causes you to see things in a very hopeful manner, shaping situations with your own
ideas and tends to be more having positive thoughts and aura which can/ is good for the
Philippines; to think positively that hopefully in the future there will be no such problems like
this poverty.

It is all about the good combination of the two to achieve the ideal society of our own;
Realism and Idealism – “Using the classic test of whether the glass is half empty or half full as
an example, we see that idealists tend to be positive thinkers – i.e. those who see the glass as
being half full. Realists many not hold the opposite or negative point of view, but they do view a
situation through less hopeful eyes. ” So if I would be the President I would go for ReaDealism.
