IV. PROCEDURES
A. Reviewing previous (ELICIT)
lesson or presenting Recall: Cell Division
the new lesson
What are the three subphases of interphase?
What is g1 in interphase?
B. Establishing a purpose (ENGAGE)
for the lesson “PAIR ME UP”

The teacher will post different pictures of celebrities, during their

childhood and present days to the students. The students will match the
pictures of the personalities from their childhood and the present. After
matching the pictures, the teacher will ask the students the following
questions:
1. Is there any difference on their physical characteristics when they
are still child and up to the present?
2. What could be the reason for this change?
C. Presenting (EXPLORE)
examples/instances of “THINK, GROUP, SHARE”
the new lesson A. Video Clip
D. Discussing new  Watch the video clip about the stages of mitosis and take
concepts and practicing note of the important information.
new skills #1 B. Arranging the stages of mitosis
E. Discussing new  Using the illustration below the students will rearrange
concepts and practicing the different stages of mitosis
new skills #2 C. Describe the different stages of mitosis
F. Developing mastery  Each group will observe and describe the posted pictures
(leads to Formative of the different stages of mitosis and will share to their
Assessment 3) groupmates their ideas.

(EXPLAIN)

Based on their answers on the activity, the teacher will discuss Mitosis and
the stages of it.

1. Mitosis is the process of cell division that results in having two

daughter cells. This cell division is for the growth and replacement
of worn out cells. The 4 stages of mitosis are prophase,
metaphase, anaphase and telophase.

 In Interphase, the DNA in the cell is copied in preparation for cell

division.

2. Prophase is where the chromosomes are condensed. The

membrane of the nucleus is dissolved. The spindle fibers start to
elongate.

3. Metaphase is the stage where the chromosomes are aligned at

the center. The sister chromatids are attached to the spindle
fibers.
4. Anaphase is where the sister chromatids are pulled apart by the
spindle fibers to the opposite poles. The spindle fibers shorten.

5. Telophase is the last stage of mitosis. A membrane will form

around the set of chromosomes and a cleavage will form in the
cell. Afterwards, the single cell then pinches in the middle to form
two separate daughter cells each containing a full set of
chromosomes within a nucleus. This process is known as
cytokinesis.
G. Finding practical (ELABORATE)
applications of
concepts and skills in Matching Type: match the stages of mitosis in Column A with its
daily living description in Column B

c. It is the stage in mitosis where the

chromosomes are aligned at the center.
