SASTRA University, Thanjavur, India CGPA: 7.58/10

PROJECTS
• AEROACOUSTIC AND AERODYNAMICS PERFORMANCE OPTIMISATION THROUGH THE
LEADING-EDGE UNDULATIONS (Oct 2016- Dec 2016)
Description: Perturbations on the leading edge of the airfoil, a biomimetic design inspired by the humpback whale
is the idea of the project. Applying the concept on airplane wings and wind turbine blades as leading-edge
undulations are found to increases the aerodynamic efficiency and reduce the broadband noise. The goal was to
understand the production of broadband noise, its subsequent reduction due to the implementation of these
undulations and identifying the optimum angle of attack. The variations in aerodynamic efficiency, C L, CD,
broadband noise, and pressure are studied and compared with the baseline model. The effects of sharpness and
smoothness in the leading- edge undulations are also computationally calculated.

• AERODYNAMICS OF DUCTED RE-ENTRY VEHICLE (Dec 2017-May 2018)

Description: Atmospheric Re-entry is a challenging part in a manned space mission. The project aims at developing
a ballistic aerocapture method for an Orion based re-entry vehicle to achieve optimal re-entry. Using ANSYS AND
FLUENT, our team achieved this by circumventing the Crew Exploration Vehicle with a duct extending from
shoulder to base of the capsule, to increase the drag and reduce the ballistic coefficient. A baseline re-entry vehicle
and nine different ducted configurations were modelled and computationally investigated under three flow regimes
ranging from Mach number 0.5 to 6. The results were compared to study the drag characteristics and surface pressure
characteristics and to understand the flow phenomena due to the presence of the duct.

• INTERPLANETARY AND PERTURBATIONMISSION EXPLORER (Nov 2018- Feb 2019)

Description: The analysis aimed at finding the optimal trajectory for a transfer from Neptune to Saturn with
additional gravity assist in Uranus. Minimising the delta-v needed for the mission with time constraints is the
primary goal along with the evolution of specific orbit in time with both unperturbed and perturbed (due to zonal
harmonics J2) cases. Orbital characteristics were computed by Numerical integration of the Equations of motion
and the Gauss planetary equations.

• STRUCTURAL DESIGN AND ACTUATION OF CARBON GLASS COMPOSITE PANEL EMBEDDED

WITH NiTi (Nov 2019- Jan 2020)
Description: Shape memory alloys are the kind of materials which regain its original structure after removal of the
load or heat that caused its deformation. Nickel titanium alloys are one such shape memory alloy, is impregnated
into the panels of fibre-reinforced Carbon Glass composite layers. The influence of shape memory alloys on the
actuation part of these panels are studied theoretically by using MATLAB. The experimental testing were also done
in the laboratory.

• DETUMBLING AND EARTH POINTING OF 3U CUBESAT (Nov 2019 – Feb 2020)

Description: The objectives were to implement attitude and controls for basic phases like Detumbling, Tracking
LVLH frame, slew maneuver, pointing the scientific equipment to the target and stabilising the spacecraft.
MATLAB and Simulink were used to calculate the characteristics of the orbit and disturbances encountered by the
satellite because of the space environment. The Earth horizon sensor, sun sensor along with actuators such as electric
thrusters and magnetic torquers were used.

• RADAR FOR PRECIPITATION, CLOUD AND WATER VAPOUR MONITORING USING 12U
CUBESAT (March 2020- June 2020)
Description: CubeSats helps in improving the knowledge about our planet’s climatic condition by reducing the
production and launching cost. The mission objective is to profile precipitation, cloud and water vapour monitoring
on Earth using CubeSats. The payload has dual-frequency radars, K-band, and W-band. Design of antennas is done
by the CST software to find the optimum frequency and bandwidth. Thermal shielding is implemented for the
payload in both active and passive thermal control to protect it from the space environment using thermal Simscape.
OBDH and EPS were chosen as per the requirements. Mass and power budgets were also done to help build the
payload at minimal cost and weight with better efficiency.
