History of the Profession


Most people believe that Civil Engineering started between 4000 and 2000 BC in Ancient Egypt because
peoples started to abandon a nomadic life. This caused the need for building shelters. The construction
of The Pyramids in Egypt could be considered the first large structure constructed. From

Civil Engineers perform duties like planning, designing, and overseeing construction. They also
look at project sites to watch the progress and ensure the design is specific. They watch over
safety and sanitation standards in the construction of buildings.

engineering mechanics. The Geotechnical engineer specializes in soil and rocks that applicate to a new
development. Most of the time Geotechnical engineers do reports on the soil the buildings go on top of.
They also look at the requirements to support a building on the soil.

Education Requirements
… To be a civil engineer you need to go to college. Civil engineers need a bachelor’s degree in civil
engineering. During the first few years of college civil engineers study building a foundation for your
career. To get the bachelor's degree you must go through three to seven year. When getting the
bachelor’s degree, you need to take civil engineering course.

Professional Requirements (licensures, etc.)


… Every state has a different requirement to be licensed. Civil engineers who build and design their
products to the public must complete professional engineer and have a state licensing requirement. To
be a civil engineer generally, includes having four years of work experience and passing two exams. Also,
to become a civil engineer you must complete an internship. This internship must be at least one
semester or more. This depends on the job you are signing up to do.

… Civil engineers get payed by the hour usually 30$ an hour. This depends on which state you are
working in the USA. Civil Engineers usually get payed the same amount per year as Mechanical
engineers. Mechanical engineers get payed most of the time a thousand dollars more than Civil. Other
jobs like Architecture get payed around the same amount. The top 10% of Civil engineers get payed
more than the top 10% of Architecture.

structures all around the world. Company Arcadis NV is a global designing company. The

… One organization is American Society of Civil Engineers. They represent the civil engineering
community worldwide. The ASCE has a vision to help the quality of life through helping the
engineering community with better education. Another organization is the United States
Society of Dams. They want to advance the role of dams for society. They want to make dams
better for the environment and to help society.

Great Pyramid of Giza is part of the seven wonders of the world. These huge pyramids were
made 2560 BCE. They were built by the Egyptians and took over twenty years to build. The
Great Wall of China is 13,170 miles of civil engineering. The Great Wall of China is the
world’s longest wall and biggest human-made structure in the world. The Wall stands
between 6 to 9 meters high.

management and overseeing construction, standards, and sanitation. One of the jobs in Alpharetta,
Georgia is to work for the premier professional services. This job wants a Civil Engineer that can lead

2018. Which is a 3D design software used for engineering and entertainment.

… Most of the work done by civil engineers' society depends on to function right. That’s why most of
the time it takes a long time to get the right model and design for the building. They also build complex
things like dams and other structures. When becoming a civil engineer, you need a bachelor's degree,
but to be part of management you must get a master's degree. Another thing civil engineer must
consider is that you must get a license in every state you get a civil engineering job in. Rhode Island is
reported to have the highest average salary.
