A. Definition of the text book

Textbooks are very important, they play an important role in shaping the views of
teachers, students and families about school subjects. Textbooks can be simply defined as books
written for the purpose and / or learning. Valverde et al., (2002)

Textbooks are teaching materials consisting of well-structured content and subject matter
in written form and have a major contribution to the teaching and learning process. Yulianti
(2011)

Textbooks are important tools for supporting certain types of curriculum. Textbooks are
something students will read on a daily basis and any message, no matter how small or innocent,
is open to interpretation by an easy-going young mind. And according to the textbook of Ravitch
(2003) and Valverde et al., (2002). very important, they play an important role in shaping the
views of teachers, students and families about school subjects.
According to the Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary, a book defined as "a book that teaches
a specific subject and which is used primarily in schools and colleges" (OALD, 2000, p. 1238)

So textbooks are one type of (1) instructional tool; (2) teaching or learning materials; (3)
neatly arranged books; (4) books in accordance with the current curriculum (5) books used to
provide applicable language input (6) Books containing material in the form of several functional
texts, pictures, pictures, and certain instructional assignments. (7) Textbooks function to
facilitate student learning inside and outside the classroom

Textbooks are written with a subject that is not a fixed count for the minimum number of
words to be used, novels are story books or stories (in terms of short stories) written in large
numbers. of forty thousand words. Any storybook that is less than the word count is novel.

Textbook analysis means evaluating textbooks to find out the advantages and
disadvantages of textbooks. textbooks. Textbook analysis is the way in which these features can
be identified and hence the effectiveness of the textbook is established. Ni'mal

Textbook analysis is considered a scientific methodology in the humanities where texts

are studied regarding their author, authenticity, or meaning. (Dr. Farooq Joubish)
So textbook analysis is an evaluation of a textbook that includes structure, focus, and

.
D. The role of textbooks in education

The role of textbooks is to provide a basic outline for the role of textbook intermediaries:
To teach and encourage students to build new knowledge, - To balance detailed and precise
information, To provide a logical and consistent mathematical system , To bring up new
questions, - To provide students with active, creative and multi-faceted information. In
conclusion, textbooks have an important role in the world of education, especially to improve
skills and abilities. Gelfman, Podstrigich, and Losinskaya (2004)

So the role of textbooks is to provide language input that students can understand. This
can facilitate independent learners, which means students can learn not only inside the classroom
but also outside with textbooks. Textbooks can be the main teaching-learning tool / media for
student s / teachers

E. Reasons textbooks should be analyzed and What are the benefits of textbook analysis

A textbook must be analyzed because we need to find out whether the textbook fits the
current curriculum or not. As Richards points out, a book may be ideal because it fits the
situation, but it can also be mismatched if the situation doesn't. Thus, if we analyze a textbook
we will know whether it is suitable or not because we need a good textbook. We need to analyze
textbooks to get good textbooks. A good textbook must be chosen to support the success of the
teaching and learning process. If the teacher uses the textbook without choosing its quality, there
is a possibility that the teaching will deviate from the goal. In conclusion, the function of
textbook analysis is to obtain textbooks that match the teaching criteria. This makes teachers
critical and creative in overcoming book shortages, for example preparing additional materials,
learning resources, and activities. So that in a learning activity students will get material that is
suitable for themselves
