English vs. Mathematics

Every language has its vocabulary (the words), and its rules for combining these
words into complete thoughts (the sentence). Base in the diagram, it shows the
difference between the language of Mathematics and English. English is an
international language used all over the world, allowing people from different countries
to communicate for different needs. In English diagram, nouns are used to name things
like people, places, and things, whereas sentences are used to state complete
thoughts. A typical English sentence has at least one noun and at least one verb.
However, Mathematics has no exception because the vocabulary of math draws from
many alphabets and includes symbols.

In the diagram of Mathematics, an analogue of a noun will be called an

expression. An expression is a name given to a mathematical object of interest like in
English, about people, places, and things while in Mathematics it has many objects of
interest like number, sets, function, matrix, and ordered pair. Also, the expression does
not state a complete thought, and it does not make sense to ask if an expression is true
or false. An example of an expression is 2+ 3 and 1+1+1, and these numbers represent
nouns. A mathematical sentence is the analogue of an English sentence, it is a correct
arrangement of mathematical symbols that states a complete thought. Sentences have
verbs and in mathematical sentence 2+3=5 the verb is “=” and some operational signs
(+, -, x, /,) are also serving as verbs. A sentence can be true and false or sometimes
true/sometimes false. For example, the sentence 2+3=5 is true while 3+5= 8 is false.
Moreover, Mathematics is also a language of communication in everyday life.
For example, newspaper and television broadcasts include graphs, percentages, and
other mathematical concepts to convey important information. It also emphasizes
mathematics as a language of communication in mathematics curricula around the
world. Through using Mathematical sentences, it's helpful when teaching or learning
math. Students often find numbers and symbols intimidating, so putting an equation into
a familiar language makes the subject more approachable. It’s like translating a foreign
language into a well-known one. Mathematics is the same all over the world, math can
act as a universal language. A phrase or formula has the same meaning, regardless of
another language that accompanies it. In this way, math helps people learn and
communicate, even if other communication barriers exist. Therefore both English and
Mathematics have difference but their functions in our today’s society are important and
essential.
