TITLE: COVID-19 COMMUNITY QUARANTINE

INTRODUCTION
What is COVID-19? COVID-19 is the infectious disease caused by the most recently
discovered coronavirus. This new virus and disease were unknown before the outbreak
began in Wuhan, China, in December 2019. COVID-19 is now a pandemic affecting
many countries globally.

What is community quarantine? There are two levels of community quarantine. The first
level is called a general community quarantine. It means that the movement of people is
largely limited to “accessing basic necessities and work” while uniformed personnel and
quarantine officers are present at border checkpoints. The second is an “enhanced
community quarantine,” more akin to a total lockdown with hard borders. In this
scenario, strict home quarantine for all households will be implemented, transportation
will be suspended, provision for food and “essential health services” will be regulated,
and there will be a heightened presence of uniformed personnel to enforce quarantine
measures.

BODY
Here in the Philippines, on March 16, 2020, Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte
declared the entire Luzon area in the Philippines under "enhanced community quarantine"
(ECQ) which is effectively a total lockdown, restricting the movement of the population
but with exceptions, in response to the growing pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019
(COVID-19) in the country. Additional lockdown restrictions mandated the temporary
closure of non-essential shops and businesses.

Quarantine is often an unpleasant experience for those who undergo it. Separation from
loved ones, the loss of freedom, uncertainty over disease status, and boredom can, on
occasion, create dramatic effects. Suicide has been reported, substantial anger generated,
and lawsuits brought following the imposition of quarantine in previous outbreaks. The
potential benefits of mandatory mass quarantine need to be weighed carefully against the
possible psychological costs. Successful use of quarantine as a public health measure
requires us to reduce, as far as possible, the negative effects associated with it.

As a student, it also has a huge impact to us because we know that the class is suspended
because of this coronavirus pandemic. Different problems are coming for example on
how to survive on lack of foods and water during home quarantine. We have no money to
buy because we are only a student for now. There is also an online class to do wherein we
will do all the requirements so that the teachers will finalize our grades because some
schools declared that we are not going back to school until the end of semester. The
problem is other student cant do this online class because some students dont have signal
on their phone or have no data to use. We really need to finish the requirements.
CONCLUSION
This community quarantine is so important to us. Dr. Salvana said, a specialist in
infectious disease and tropical medicine, and the lead member of the technical advisory
group for the IATF on what quarantine measures include and why they matter, a
community quarantine with extreme social distancing measures were implemented as
preemptive measure to help manage the increase in cases in the country. This is largely to
help the Philippines’ health system cope with treating patients as a sudden surge or
increase can overwhelm hospitals and health workers.

So stay safe for everyone and dont get sick from this coronavirus.
