Method Statement for bottom up Roof Slab Concreting
All loose and unsuitable material/concrete shall be removed using water/air pressure
wash. The blackouts in the Dwall shall be removed and the cast in couplers shall be
located in the Dwall. In the event of cement grout found in the inner threads of couplers, it
shall be cleaned by wire brushe.
In case of missing couplers or couplers out of position beyond tolerance, chemical
anchoring shall be done or guideline shall be sought from the Designer.
The surface of the Dwall /column/wall going to be in contact with roof slab then be
roughened manually or mechanically to provide a good joint between the old and new
concrete.
Reinforcing steel bars shall be fabricated at the rebar fabrication yard/site & transported to
the location of placement.

Cleaning shall be done prior to steel fixing and ensure rebar’s should not be
contaminated with oil or grease. If contaminated then steel shall be cleaned with
dry cement.
Layout for the rebars shall be marked on steel shuttering.
Now, the fixing of steel reinforcement bars inclusive of bar chairs, couplers and shear
connectors shall be carried out in accordance with approved drawing.
The following fixing sequences shall be generally be followed:
Marking out gridlines and construction joint on shutters
For pours adjacent to Dwall , starter bars shall be installed into the couplers cast in
Dwall. Completion of tightening of rebars shall be ensured by marking the same with
paints. The starter bars shall be tightened by one and then pain marked. Paint
marking shall be done to ensure that all the couplers are tightened.
Install PVC/concrete cover blocks at suitable spacing 1.5m c/c
Install bottom reinforcement on cover blocks
Adequate nos of chairs shall be provided to ensure that the rebars are not displaced
by the movement of workers.
Shear reinforcement, if any shall be erected.
Tolerance for fixing the rebar shall be ±15mm.
Finishing level of the roof slab concrete shall be marked at different locations.
Plug all through holes (opening around starter bars). In the formwork.in general,
rebar couplers shall be used for future lapping of reinforcement at access openings.
Concrete (Grade: M40) shall be produced at JKIL. batching plant and transported by
7.0 m3 agitator trucks to site. Concrete shall be continuously agitated during
transportation.
Water shall not be added to the truck mixer other than at the batching plant.
Approved concrete mix shall be placed as per concrete pouring plan.
Concrete pump with pipeline shall be used for pouring of concrete to pour area.
Pouring rate of concrete shall be kept 40cum/hr to avoid cold joints. A flexible
hose shall be attached at end of the concrete pipeline to place the concrete.
Alternatively, boom placer shall be used. Concrete Pour plan shall be
submitted well in advance before concreting.
