HINDUSTAN UNILEVER LIMITED (HUL)

INTRODUCTION:
In today’s fast moving world whatever product (personal care, home care, refreshment) you are
using , you want it to be of best quality as well as cost effective.HUL serves both purposes.

HUL is a subsidiary of Unilever, headquarter in Mumbai.Unilever is the parent company of HUl

Unilever was set up in 1933 by lever brothers. HUL believes in making future great through its
product in our daily life. Currently its CEO and MD is Sanjiv Mehta. HUL has more than 30
product brands in 20 categories.

Some of its categories is as follow:

Homecare brands:
 Active wheel detergent
 Surf excel detergent and gentle wash
 Vim dishwash
 Rin detergents and bleach

Personal care brands:


 Close Up toothpaste, Pepsodent toothpaste
 Dove skin cleansing and hair care
 Denim shaving products
 Indulekha ayurvedic hair oil

Food:

 Lipton ice tea, Brooke bond tea, bru coffee


 Knorr soups
 Kissan squashes, ketchups and jams

Aquisition:

As a fastest growing FMCG company HUL has acquired many companies to expand its
business. Few of them are as follow:

a)Brooke bond : HUL acquired brooke bond in 1984.


b)Lipton tea: Lipton tea was incorporated by HUL IN 1977.
c)Ponds(India) Ltd: Ponds was incorporated in HUL in 1986.
d) Lakme Ltd : HUL acquired Lakme Ltd in 1998.

Merger:
GSK CH India was merged with HUL in 2018.This transaction took place in 31,700
crore.

Strengths of the company:


a) From toothpaste to mineral water HUL is trying to make life better of more than 1
billion people.
b) On any given day 9 out of 10 people use HUL’s product, which shows it’s acceptance
as market leader in FMCG section.
c) HUL signs famous celebrities for its advertisement of product which has created
impact over the ages.
d)HUL has provided product categories like oral care , personal care, household care
which makes it different from other companies.

Competitors:
 P&G and HUL have been rivals of each other since all time, apart from this
Nestle & Dabur aro also its rivals.
 ITC is also one of biggest players in FMCG sector with a revenue of appx 7
billion dollar and have multiple product segments.
 Pantanjali has also become one of the major concerns for HUL due to
its faster scalability ($30 billion) and emerging popularity of the brand
in the name of herbal products.
