Case 2 Enterprise Rent A Car
Case 2 Enterprise Rent A Car
Case 2 Enterprise Rent A Car
1) All car rental companies provide customers with the temporary use a car. What
activities did Enterprise engage in to create its unique rental experience? In what
ways did the Enterprise car rental experience match (or not match) the needs of its
customers?
2) What assets did Enterprise develop or acquire that enabled it not only to provide
its particular type of car rental, but also to do so profitably? Pay particular
attention to tradeoffs made by Enterprise (in other words, what Enterprise chose
not to do).
3) Why were people so important to Enterprise? What were the strength and
weaknesses of its human resource strategy? Was enterprise’s high employee
turnover rate a problem, given its substantial investment in employee recruiting
and training?
4) Would Avis and Hertz, which had begun to enter the local car rental market, be
able to replicate Enterprise’s success? Why or why not? Consider how
Enterprise’s choice of activities helped it create assets it otherwise may not have
possessed.
5) Would the growth in the popularity of Zipcar and other car sharing services affect
Enterprise’s future profitability? What, if anything, should Enterprise do in
anticipation of continued growth in car sharing?
