My Personal Superhero Quest.

Who is Bolaji O?

Christian. Husband. Dad.

Author of Motivational Children’s Books.

I’m known as the Two-Cent Storyteller.

“Will tell stories for change.”

I’m a Lover of:

I can’t wait on the world to change.

So I’m doing my part to change it.

You could say my Rat Race escape started at age 10.

When I realized I could sell my cartoon drawings to classmates –
and buy more snacks during lunch break. (Thank you, Spider Man.)

Today, I’m a full-time Author, Internet Marketer, and Stay-At-Home Dad.

But it hasn’t been an easy road to get here. At all.

I've always been a bit of a comic book fan.

As a young kid, the ability to enter into a world where:

 The good guys were the good guys,

 The bad guys were predictably evil, and
 The good guys triumphed (most of the time, anyway)... was intoxicating.

The artwork, the vivid colors, the storylines... they all melded together in orchestrated perfection.

But what I really enjoyed most, were the specific combination of powers and personality traits that each
hero used to pursue their goals in life.

It was never just about "Who the strongest guy was."

(Usually that was the Incredible Hulk. Or Superman.)

It was usually boring if the character was all-powerful, and could easily beat out the competition.

It was much more fun when the hero faced insurmountable odds, and had to use more than raw
strength to succeed. Each hero established a PERSONAL BRAND. It made them consistent & authentic.

How does this relate to you?

You already have a personal brand.

This book is about knowing it, owning it, and showing it.

Contrary to what many think, you don’t have to be a GURU to have your own personal brand.

Instead of answering the question: "How Can I Be Different?"

Answer the question: "How Can I Make a Difference?"

THAT’S YOUR PERSONAL BRAND.

Why Should I Learn How to Provide Significant value in my Niche?

1. Because Becoming a Trusted Authority Multiplies the Value You Provide:
By providing WAY more value than other providers in your niche you transform yourself into a
trusted authority. You become a go-to resource in your niche, for people who want help.

People don’t lack information. What they lack is an understanding of how to combine the right
information into wisdom. That’s what a trusted authority provides. Clarity. Simplicity. Wisdom.

2. Because You’ll End Up Helping More People Than You Ever Imagined:
When you become a trusted authority, you no longer have to look for an audience. Your
audience finds you. Your followers find you. And you are able to help more people ever!

It’s not that you know MORE than you did before actively owning your Personal Brand. It’s just
that more people KNOW the REAL DIFFERENCE you can make in their lives.

3. Because Without a Personal Brand, You Get Lost in the Crowd:

With information-overload, your message simply won’t get through. You become NOISE instead
of filter. Imagine all the work you’re doing now, to introduce your message to people.

People see your ad, or get a recommendation to your product.

But without a compelling story that gives them a reason to KNOW, LIKE and TRUST you…
It’s like selling lemonade on the corner, on a hot day.
With a dozen other groups of kids also selling.
You simply won’t stand out.

4. Because Your Industry’s Leaders Will Seek You Out!

Establishing a Personal Brand is a short cut to industry leadership. You don’t have to pretend to
be an expert at all! You simply need a unique perspective, a personality, you need to provide
value, and you need to care. By putting your pieces of work out there, industry leaders will
want to be affiliated with you. Yes, YOU!

THE PERSONAL BRAND FORMULA:

With that in mind, we’re now going to get down to the nuts and bolts of a Personal Brand Formula.

What is the concept behind “Your Personal Brand Formula”?

What I’m about to show you, if you put it to use, will allow you to be recognized by everyone in your
industry, based on stories of the unique and valuable difference you can make for them.

The principles behind this concept:

I first discovered this when reading Seth Godin’s “Linchpin”, in which he talks at great length about how
to be indispensable. This was then combined with teachings from Eben Pagan in “How to Become a
Modern Guru”, as well as Harry Beckwith’s “You, Inc.”

I tested this out with both myself, and with friends, and learned what has now become the Personal
Brand Formula. Adding my personal experience in personal development and social media, I was able to
come up with this formula. So this is tested, and really works.

As opposed to creating a personal brand that is an attractive fiction of your imagination (FAIL!)–
You’re telling YOUR real life story. But doing it in a conscious fashion, setting up the personal stories
step-by-step, and walking people through it in a fashion that will let them know, like and trust you.

As a matter of fact, before we go further, here’s what the formula looks like:

www.ThePersonalBrandFormula.com | www.WhoIsBolaji.com
“Become an Invaluable Authority… & Dominate Your Niche.” Page 12
THE PERSONAL BRAND FORMULA:
“Discover your Inner Superhero. Become Invaluable.” By
www.ThePersonalBrandFormula.com Bolaji Oyejide

Here is the recipe for combining the above ingredients successfully:

1. The first thing you do is that you determine what your unique strengths are.

2. Once you’ve figured out what strengths you want to use to provide significant value, you’ve got
to use the 7 immutable laws of being a hero, to craft your story. Remember, it’s not fiction. It’s
simply your true story, told well.

3. With your whole superhero persona crafted around your unique strengths, you use the 5
uncommon senses to find pockets of REAL VALUE to create for your audience.

4. Finally, you pick a format for delivering that value.

Superhero Challenge 1: What is Your Superhero Elevator Pitch?

Imagine you and a bunch of other superheroes are at a career fair.
Resumes in hand.

A number of you are lined up, waiting to talk to the most popular employer at the fair. Superman’s at
the head of the line, talking the recruiter’s ear off. (“AS U-SU-AL! THAT GUY IS SO SELF-CENTERED…”)

Superman: “In addition to finding synergies between asymmetric situations, I also save cats from trees…
oh, that reminds me of a story about cats…”

You FINALLY get to the head of the line.

And the recruiter asks you, half bored even as she asks: “So… what’s your super power?”

What would your response be?

Spend no more than 60 seconds jotting down whatever words or phrases come to mind.

As you progress through the other Superhero Challenges in this book, you’ll get to totally revamp this.
But you want to establish a baseline.

Job Fair Recruiter: “Well? Stop staring with your mouth open – WHAT’S YOUR SUPER POWER???”

THE PRINCE OF PROCRASTINATION SAYS:

“I hate questions like this. Let’s read the entire eBook first, and then come back to do the exercises.”

THE PERSONAL BRAND FORMULA:

www.ThePersonalBrandFormula.com Bolaji Oyejide

Here are the 3 things that trip most people up on when defining their personal brand:
1. Lack of focus (Doing too many things at once):
To beat this, you can use tools and colleagues that force accountability.

2. Inability to give value without expecting something in return:

The perfect book to read here is Bob Burg’s “The Go Giver”. Giving is completely worth it. And
also ends up being more profitable.

3. Lack of confidence in one’s super powers, because of a perceived lack of expertise

The naked truth is that experience is important, but often overrated. If you have a compelling
story, and a willingness to serve people in your target audience, they’ll follow you. Maybe even
more, since they will be able to identify more with you.

It’s important to really think about what it would mean, for you to have mastery of the Personal Brand
Formula. If you’re simply reading this for entertainment, or as a distraction from what action you
SHOULD be taking right now, this as good a place as any to CLOSE THIS BOOK.

But if you actually plan to:

 Take notes…
 Do the exercises as you go along…
 Take the best ideas, and incorporate into your daily process…
 Re-read the most relevant parts 2 or 3 more times…

You WILL master the Personal Brand Formula.

What If?
 What if you actually got the attention of the people you want to help in your audience?
 What if you actually got into partnerships with the biggest industry leaders?
 What if people actually recognized your value –and you became a go-to resource?
 What if you actually changed lives in tangible ways, thanks to your consciously focusing on your
strengths most of the time?

Why Should You Learn How to Discover Your Own Super Powers?
1. Because it’s Good to be Good. But it’s Better to be Great:
FOCUS is POWER. Most companies ask us to focus on fixing our weaknesses. But we’ll never be
more than average in those areas. By focusing on our strengths, we can go from GOOD to
GREAT. What would it mean to you, for you to be one of the GREATS at something you’re
passionate about?

2. Because Your Super Powers Probably Aren’t What You Think They Are:
Contrary to popular opinion, our STRENGTHS (or super powers) aren’t necessarily what we’re
good at. And our weaknesses aren’t necessarily what we’re bad at, for that matter.
You’ll learn more in this chapter about why STRENGTHS are “things that make you feel strong”.
Even if you’re not (yet) an expert at them.

3. Because a Strength is Made Up of 3 Major Factors, & You’re Probably Ignoring Two!
Strength is actually made up of Talent, Knowledge and Skill! We’ll talk about how to combine
these to maximize your strengths and multiply your value.

With that in mind, we’re now going to get down to the nuts and bolts of discovering your super powers.

What is the concept behind Discovering Your Super Powers”?

What I’m about to show you, if you put it to use, will allow you multiply the impact, influence and value
you put out, by focusing your strengths like a LASER.

THE PERSONAL BRAND FORMULA:

The principles behind this concept:

1: Now Discover Your Strengths:

I read this book by Marcus Buckingham and Donald Clifton some years ago. The thinking in here was
contrary to much of what I had been exposed to by corporate Human Resources up until that point.

Marcus suggested the following: “You don't need to have strength in every aspect of your role, to excel.
Strong people aren't well rounded. On the contrary; they are sharp. That strong performers are well-
rounded is a pervasive MYTH! “

2: Trombone Player Wanted:

I quickly purchased Marcus Buckignham’s “Trombone Player Wanted”, an allegorical DVD about a kid in
a high school band that was assigned the Trombone, but really loved the drums. Beautiful work.

3: Crush It! Why Now Is the Time to Cash In On Your Passion:

I combined these with some great principles from Gary Vaynerchuk’s BRILLIANT 2009 book on passion
and social media. Gary’s a peculiar and passionate guy. And it works for him.

Gary’s words are memorable: “AUTHENTICITY IS WHAT WILL GIVE YOU THE GREATEST CHANCE OF
SUCCESS. Do you. Don't polish. Don't clean up the image. Do you EVERY TIME. “

4: StrengthsFinder 2.0:
By the time I read this follow-up to “Now, Discover Your Strengths”, by Donald Clifton and Tom Rath, I
was hooked! In fact, I got the StrengthsFinder book for my wife, who was going through a career
transition. It was amazing to see how well the online test pinpointed her active & latent strengths!

Combining all of these resources gave me incredible clarity on what my wife and I needed to
be focusing on, in order to be more valuable in our roles, and toward our goals.

Here’s what the process looks like:

C) Here is the recipe for combining the above ingredients successfully:

1. Identify your 10 most valuable talents.

2. Identify your relevant areas of knowledge.

Include things you love, even if they’re not a talent.

3. Filter out talents and knowledge that while you’re good at, you don’t actually LIKE doing.
Only keep the ones that make you FEEL strong (Even if you’re not yet skilled at them!)
Most people fail at this step. They spread themselves too thin, and remain ineffectual.

In the book ‘The Power of Less’, Leo Babauta said:

www.ThePersonalBrandFormula.com | www.WhoIsBolaji.com
“Become an Invaluable Authority… & Dominate Your Niche.” Page 19
THE PERSONAL BRAND FORMULA:
“Discover your Inner Superhero. Become Invaluable.” By
www.ThePersonalBrandFormula.com Bolaji Oyejide

“By choosing the essentials, we create GREAT IMPACT with minimal resources.”

And Marcus Buckingham took it further in his book ‘Now Discover Your Strengths’:
“The best athletes aren’t good at all things, or even most things. But they are exceptional at a
few things. And that makes them potent at their craft.”

4. Identify your skill level with each talent and body of knowledge

5. Resolve, daily, to build your skill level with each talent and body of knowledge

6. Realize that PERSEVERANCE, FOCUS, and PASSION are the only way to become STRONG.

Superhero Challenge 2: What are Your Top 10 Talents?

Imagine yourself as a superhero early-teenager.
Bad skin, bad hair, bad fashion sense.
Imagine that at the time, you felt no one could like you but your Momma. 

Now. List out the things that she would have bragged about, over you.
Momma: “Oh, you should see my baby. Show them how you can hula hoop, baby!”

All right, all right. If that was too ridiculous, let’s ask the question another way.
List out 10 things you are naturally talented at.

Think broadly –whether it’s balancing a spoon from your nose,

or rocket science for stay-at-home Moms.

Spend no more than 5 minutes on this activity. You can always come back to add to this.

One way to find undiscovered talents is to ask family and friends for quick input.
Another way is to think back to what you were good at as a child. Those were probably natural talents.

You’ll want to use positive, straightforward language to describe your talents.

www.ThePersonalBrandFormula.com | www.WhoIsBolaji.com
“Become an Invaluable Authority… & Dominate Your Niche.” Page 20
THE PERSONAL BRAND FORMULA:
“Discover your Inner Superhero. Become Invaluable.” By
www.ThePersonalBrandFormula.com Bolaji Oyejide

GO AHEAD! LIST OUT UP TO TOP 10 TALENTS. BUT SPEND NO MORE THAN 5 MINUTES ON THIS.

THE EVIL HIGH SCHOOL GUIDANCE COUNSELOR SAYS:

“You should skip ahead to the next chapter. No one cares about what YOU are good at.”

Superhero Challenge 3: What are your Top 10 Areas of Knowledge?

This one’s easy.

 List out your formal education. It should already be on your resumé.

 Now. List out the types of books you like to read on your own time.
List authors, book categories, whatever. Search Amazon.com if you need ideas.

 Add to this, areas in which you’ve built learned knowledge, from other people.
Like on the job. Or from people outside of work, that you respect and gain advice from.

Now that you have a nice, sizeable list, pick your top 10. And rank them.
Please make them specific. (-ex- “Marketing” is general. But “Facebook Fan Page Marketing” is specific)

Baron P.A. (Paralysis Analysis) says:

“Okay, hang on, hang on. I’ll need to find my most recent resumé. And do some research on my favorite
books. Plus, I learned a lot from… what’s his name? I need to find those emails I typed up 3 years ago…
they’ll fit into this. In fact, I have a journal entry from some years back… oh, and my certifications
shouldn’t be missed. Plus, let me email Bolaji to find out what format this list should be in…”

Superhero Challenge 4: FILTER OUT Everything But the Top 3 Talents

and Areas of Knowledge!
Okay. This one is distinctively HARD. LOL!
There’s a commercial showing Michael Jordan competing against top athletes in other sports…
and failing miserably. (He also failed at baseball, by the way. A sport that he gave genuine effort to.)

But Mike is still one of the most legendary athletes in the world, of all time.
Why?
He focused, sharply, on a very limited set of skills.

Your Challenge is to DECIDE to be the Michael Jordan of a very small handful of strengths.
 Pick the 5 talents most important to you. And rank them.

www.ThePersonalBrandFormula.com | www.WhoIsBolaji.com
“Become an Invaluable Authority… & Dominate Your Niche.” Page 21
THE PERSONAL BRAND FORMULA:
“Discover your Inner Superhero. Become Invaluable.” By
www.ThePersonalBrandFormula.com Bolaji Oyejide

 Pick the 5 bodies of knowledge most important to you. And rank them.

 Now. Focus on the top 3 items on each list.

 Channel all your energy and focus here.

IGOR MANIAC SAYS:

“This is bull. There is no way I can limit my numerous talents, or bodies of knowledge down to to 3.
That’s leaving out way too many things that I’m good at!!” 

Superhero Challenge 5: Rate your Skills.

Skills are talents and knowledge APPLIED & PRACTICED.
Building skills is all about consistent and focused action. Building skills takes time.

Rate your current skill level (how practiced and experienced you are) for your
top 3 talents, and your top 3 areas of knowledge.

LITTLE CHICKEN SANDWICH MAN SAYS:

“…..”
“Haaaahahahahahahhaaaaa! You want me to do what?!? Yeah, that’s going to happen. (Crazy.)” 

Superhero Challenge 6: Build Laser Focus.

Laser focus comes into play with discipline and application of simple systems.
- If you start each day in Email or Facebook, you lack FOCUS.
- If your to-do list grows by several items every day, you lack FOCUS.

To get FOCUS, you must start each day crystal clear on the MOST IMPORTANT THING to be
accomplished on that day. Using a timer for your Most Important Thing(s) each day ensures you have
laser-like focus, and maximum value creation.

I use a tool called Nocrastinator.com to give myself time boundaries which force my progress.
But a simple stop watch would work as well.

Whatever tool works for you, get that, and use it regularly.

THE PERSONAL BRAND FORMULA:

Here are the 3 things that stop most people from discovering their super
powers:
1. A Lack of Focus:
This is the most pervasive of challenges. We all find it difficult to focus. There are so many
things that we’d like to be good at. So we claim them. And our lack of focus leads to mediocrity
on all fronts.

2. Only looking within one’s professional career:

For most people, their strengths lie beyond the scope of their day-job.
But the fear of the unknown is great – human nature. And so we stick to what we (perhaps) are
good at, but isn’t fulfilling. In actuality, our childhoods are probably better indicators of our
strengths / super powers. The things we loved then, we often still love now.

By doing the above exercises, you’ll have clarity on your set of superhero powers in no time!

3. Negative Self-Talk:
Talking one’s self down,
Minimizing your own accomplishments,
Not acknowledging the things you have accomplished,

All of these falsely reduce your power. Don’t let negative self-talk snatch defeat from the jaws
of victory for you!

Discovering your own Strengths, your own Super Powers, is a big deal.

What if you had complete clarity as to what you were an expert at?

No. Even better. What if you had complete clarity as to how you add compelling and overwhelming
value to people’s lives?

What if you had the same definition, no matter who you were talking to? And that allowed you to
further build your abilities? Doing what you love and are passionate about?

Perhaps these exercises may feel academic. But this is your life were talking about.

Being able to filter out mediocrity and busy-ness, for purpose, passion, fulfillment, and legacy?

Priceless.

Chapter Three: The Seven Secret Laws of the Superhero Code.

A) Why Should I Learn The Seven Secret Laws of the Superhero Code?
1. Success leaves clues:
Regardless of what field you’re in, there are top performers. And observing them, shadowing
them, will allow you to quickly take advantage of what they’ve learned. Even moreso than
asking them what works for them – copying what they do can greatly improve your results.

2. 75 years of superhero history makes for a battle-tested formula that works:

Yes. Comicbook superheroes have been around for over 70 years. And they’ve honed their
formula for superhero personalities over the years. If it’s worked for Super-Man, Batman,
Captain America, and Spider-Man, for this long… there’s got to be something to it.

3. Metaphors and analogies trump words:

Our brains think in pictures, not words. Being able to represent a concept, or group of ideas,
with a simple visual story, allows your brain to absorb, retain, and apply the concepts!

With that in mind, we’re now going to get down to the nuts and bolts of the 7 Secret Laws!

What is the concept behind “The 7 Secret Laws of the Superhero Code”?
What I’m about to show you, if you put it to use, will allow you to fashion a compelling story and
identity, centered on your strengths, and focused on providing overwhelming value to your audience.

The principles behind this concept:

When I started researching this topic over a year ago, my Internet inquiries turned up some really
informative information on www.Wikpedia.com. This gave me the framework for the 7 Secret Laws.
Further research on comic sites like www.ComicVine.com filled in a lot of the gaps in my comprehensive
understanding of superhero history.

Here are the 7 Secret Laws of the Superhero Code:

But it wasn’t until I sat down in a Barnes & Noble bookstore one gray winter afternoon, and found DC’s
75-year History of Comic Books encyclopedia, that I learned the FULL story. It is simply AMAZING how
these comic book pioneers created characters that catered to the tastes of the day, but still appeal to us,
almost a century later!

I tested the hypothesis that the definition of a superhero could be a good definition for a successful
businessperson. And after testing with a few people, I found the laws to work!

Here’s what the process looks like:

Here is the recipe for combining the above ingredients successfully:

1. Share your back story with the world.

2. Find out if the identity being kept secret is your ordinary one, or your super one.

3. Discover your super powers.

4. Find your calling – your reason for being super.

5. Design your symbol, your logo, your theme

6. Clarify your moral code (with great power comes great responsibility)

7. Identify your nemesis. And how to defeat it.

1. The 1st Secret Law of the Superhero Code - A Back Story:

Every hero has a back story.
It's tempting to ask why these comic book authors would go to great lengths, to familiarize the
reader with a character synopsis.

Things like:
- Where the hero came from,
- Personality traits,
- What they were like before the transformation,
- The catalyst for their transformation,
- The main players in their story,
- Their stumbles, and triumphs,
And so on.

Consider this:
Whenever you visit a post on a new blog, and enjoy reading that post, there's a good chance
that you'll check out the ABOUT ME page. You want to know more about this person that has
made you laugh, cry, seethe, or think.

Think of your ABOUT ME page then, as your super hero back story.
BACK as in: How did you get here, and
STORY as in: Entertain me. Don't be boring.

So you not only want to write a story that's entertaining and supports your personal brand... but
you also want to LIVE LIFE as a story that's entertaining, and supports your personal brand.

Superhero Challenge 7: Create Your Back Story (Law 1 of 7):

Craft your back story. Tell it like it is, without sugar-coating.
 Make a list of up to 5 “high” milestones. Things you’re really proud of accomplishing.
 List up to 10 “low” milestones. Celebrate the lows. They make the highs more believable.
 Try to tease out a theme, a pattern. Also decide where you want to take the reader with your
story. Figure out how you want to motivate them, and what your next future chapter looks like.
 Put it all together!

2. The 2nd Secret Law of the Superhero Code - A Secret Identity:

Superheroes in most cases hid their actual non-super-hero identity, for good reason.
Can you imagine the paparazzi palaver that would ensue, if the press found out John Smith
could leap over tall buildings, or that Jimmy Johnson could run faster than sound?

Aw-kward.

They also hid their actual identities to protect their loved ones.
Kind of like how real-life secret agents remain, uh, secret.

We all have secret identities. Actually, most of us have MULTIPLE identities.

 The work identity,
 The hanging with old friends identity,
 The hanging with current friends (who don't know how goofy I used to be) identity,
 The "kids are around" identity,
 The "only my significant other is around" identity,

And on, and on, and on.

The trouble is, when you're defining your personal brand, which identities do you include?
 One of them?
 Some of them?
 ALL OF THEM?

The answer to that question is up to you. But you do have to answer the question.
Now all these identities are truly YOU. But you must choose what face you want your audience
to see, and what face(s) remain behind the mask.

Superhero Challenge 8: How to Define Your Secret Identity (Law 2 of

7):
 Figure out what identity you have at work.
 And with your family.
 Then with your friends.

For some people, it’s all the same identity. For many of us, while there’s huge overlap, we don’t show
let Mom & Dad in on some of the things we would say or do with our closest friends. Same with co-
workers – they may not be privy to your passion for attending Star Trek conventions on the weekends.

Now – determine how much of these identities will make up your Superhero Brand identity.

It’s okay to not reveal your entire self, as a superhero. In fact, it may be necessary to keep some stuff
private. All we’re doing is making a conscious (not accidental) decision about what to share.
3. The 3rd Secret Law of the Superhero Code - Super Powers:
We're all blessed with innate talents. But what counts as a super power or ability?

“What can I do, that is uniquely SUPER”?

While we can rattle off our strengths, or interests, our skills, our abilities… we often feel that we're
about average with any single power we’d like to lay claim to.

It's hard to jump into the ocean, and try to be a completely unique fish from every other fish out
there. Or to try and be the absolute best fish in the ocean, at any single skill.

The secret is that super heroes all have nuanced combinations of powers.

Flight:
Many heroes can fly. The power of flight doesn't make any of them unique. But you don't see the
latest flying hero packing up and going home, just because there are other air-bound men in tights.

Super-Strength:
Many of them have super strength. She-Hulk. Wonder Woman. The Thing. Power Man. Ms Marvel.
And yet each hero has their own value-add, their own fans, their own storylines. How do they do it?

Back in the real world - maybe you're a brilliant storyteller.

But feel daunted because there are so many great storytellers already targeting your audience.

Maybe you're an amazing number cruncher.

But there's no way you're going to be ranked ahead of those folks with more experience, more
credentials, more prestige, and bigger calculators.

Maybe you're the most creative person your friends know.

But when it comes to planting your flag as Mister/Miss Creativity, you get intimidated by the global
measuring stick that pits you against every other creative being in the world.

STOP.
This is a losing proposition.

Personally,I experienced "super power envy" when

- Reading the powerful and succinct writing of Seth Godin,

- Living through the vivid allegories of Paulo Coelho,

- Traipsing through Walt Disney's fantasy lands,

- Romping through a Dr Seuss book with my 3-year old son, and

- Marveling at the courage, perseverance, humor, and communication abilities of Nick Vujicic.

I love all these guys.

Different parts of me want to be like them.

But I'll never be as good as them.

At being them.

Don't worry. I'll show you how you can emulate all your own personal heroes, without aspiring to fill
their tights. We're going to make you your own. Superhero threads.

Superhero Challenge 9: Now, Reveal Your Super Powers (Law 3 of 7):

 Write out your top talents, bodies of knowledge, skills.

 Add 3 to 5 descriptors of the audience that you see yourself serving.

Without people to help, your superpowers are just neat party tricks. Give some thought to
whom you will be providing significant value to. Write that down.

 Write down 3 to 5 words describing the results you’d like people to get, after being helped by
you. You could also phrase this as the type of problems you see yourself solving.

 Now. Play with combinations of the words from the 3 categories above.
Come up with about 3-5 phrases describing your super powers (skills + audience + value
delivered)

4. The 4th Secret Law of the Superhero Code - A Calling:

WHAT IS YOUR WHY?

Spider Man initially used his powers for personal gain. He was a two-bit wrestler.
Until he allowed a robber to escape from robbing the promoter who didn't pay him... only to
find minutes later that the same robber killed his Uncle during the getaway. Spider man forever
carried that guilt with him, remembering his Uncle's words from an earlier conversation:

"With great power comes great responsibility."

Batman's parents were slain during a mugging. In his presence. He became an instant multi-
millionaire, thanks to his inheritance. But he spent his growing years training his mind and body.
Lacking super powers, he used hand-to-hand combat skills, and high-tech equipment, to defeat
crime in Gotham City.

Captain America was a skinny patriotic soldier who didn't pass the physical test to enter the
army. So he jumped at the chance to serve his country in an experimental "super soldier"
program. What made Steve Rogers (Captain America) unique ?

His unwavering patriotism. AND his strict adherence to promise of justice and liberty for all.

These three heroes epitomize having a STRONG ENOUGH WHY.

They all had a STRONG ENOUGH WHY, aside from their abilities.

In Spider Man's case, contrary to the other two examples, he had his super abilities first.
He flaunted them, he squandered them, and only when tragedy hit did he dedicate them to
serving the people. But with Batman and Captain America, the WHY came first.

What camp are you in?

Do you have a STRONG ENOUGH REASON WHY you do what you do... or want to do what you
ought to be doing?

For me - I'm relentlessly driven by the certainty that I'm going to change the lives of millions of
people, for generations.

THE PERSONAL BRAND FORMULA:

www.ThePersonalBrandFormula.com Bolaji Oyejide

If you have a hard time tying down your WHY, go all the way back to childhood.
Reminisce about what motivated you then.

Or consider your current phase of life.

Think about what drives you now.
Try to look beyond meeting immediate needs (food on the table, etc.)

Somewhere, deep down, there is a RESOUNDING AND UNWAVERING REASON WHY God put you
on this green earth. Seek that reason. You don't even have to get the answer right away. Just
asking the question of yourself will change how you see your world.

Superhero Challenge 10: What is Your Superhero Calling? (Law 4 of 7)

 Revisit the Significant value You Want to Provide to your Chosen Audience

 Write down 3-5 reasons WHY This Is Important to You

 Your calling shouldn’t be phrased as what you’re running away from.

-ex- I want to escape the Rat Race

 But instead what you’re running toward.

-ex- I want to spend my time inspiring kids to use their uniqueness to change the world.

5. The 5th Secret Law of the Superhero Code - A Symbol:

Batman’s symbol resembles a large bat.

He operates at night.
He calls his specialized car, which also appears bat-like, the "Batmobile"
And uses several devices named with a "bat" prefix,

Spider-Man can shoot webs from his hands,

has a spider web pattern on his costume,
and other spider-like abilities.

If I showed you:

 SUPERMAN'S S symbol
 FANTASTIC FOUR'S 4 symbol
 BATMAN'S BAT SIGNAL...
 CAPTAIN AMERICA'S SHIELD...
 THOR'S HAMMER...

Either you'd know the hero behind each of those, or at least your kids would.

There is power in symbols.

They communicate a full message almost immediately. One of the most recognized symbols in
the world is the Golden Arches. Yes. McDonald’s. It’s the brand toddlers (at least in the United
States) are most universally familiar with.

Finding a symbol, or theme, or graphic, to represent the value you provide, is a powerful way of
staying top-of-mind whenever someone needs that value.

Graphically challenged?
Don’t worry about it. It's not too hard to find someone to bring your concept to life.
Once you figure out what your concept is. You can always update, revise, or just start again
from scratch later, if what you come up with initially doesn't speak to you.
Web sites like Fiverr.com, oDesk.com, and Guru.com have lots of affordable graphic artists!

The hard part? Coming up with your concept.

Superhero Challenge 11: How to Create Your Superhero Symbol (Law

5 of 7):
1. Write down your mission and vision. Use them as your inspiration.

2. Make a list of your super power. Circle the top 3.

3. Make a list of the value you provide to your particular audience. Circle the top 3.

4. Name some adjectives or attributes that you would use to describe your superhero.

5. Identify how you want your audience to feel when they interact with you.
Curious, safe, excited, happy, uneasy, beautiful, inspired, fired up, driven, empowered?

6. Search for images on http://images.google.com that help communicate your idea.

THE PERSONAL BRAND FORMULA:

7. Hire a designer! Don’t use clip-art.

8. Ask the opinion of your target market, after you're down to at least 3 very different options.

Keep it simple. The more complicated the logo, the more costly it will be to reproduce.
Limited colors are better (printing costs get really high with more than 2 colors... not counting white)

6. The 6th Secret Law of the Superhero Code - A Strong Moral Code:
Back in the initial era of comic books, heroes and villains were very BLACK and WHITE.
The good guys were always good, and the bad guys were always bad. It presented an idealistic
reality, in both a good and bad sense.

It was GOOD, because kids could read the comics without ambiguity about the principles of
truth, justice, and fairness. Right and wrong.

But it was BAD, because these heroes became less relatable, because they either never faced
moral dilemmas that tested their unswerving puritan ethics, or even in the most complex of
dilemmas, they still managed to emerge unscathed.

In the real world, things often are in shades of gray. Whether you're an online marketer, or in
another profession, you will face situations on a regular basis in which you have the opportunity
to "cross to the dark side". Examples abound.

You have to be the judge.

But I know this much is true; just like in the comics, heroes that bend the law often prosper in
the short term. After all, they saw some low-hanging "prosperity" that was theirs for the taking,
if only they bent the rules. And so they did.

But in real life, and in the comic books, these heroes always end up amounting to very little, or
flame out infamously.

Every interaction you have with your audience contributes to your PERSONAL BRAND. And if
you bend the rules once and get away with it, the likelihood is that you'll do it again. And again.
Each time, unwittingly moving your personal brand more and more toward villainy.

If you're into Online Marketing because you need to make money quickly, your decisions will be

www.ThePersonalBrandFormula.com | www.WhoIsBolaji.com

ruled by "what's in it for me?” thinking, by "short-term" analysis, and by “tit-for-tat” value
delivery.

Adopt the moral code of finding an audience you care about, and SAVING them from their
problems as often as possible, over the long-term, and your hero status in that niche will be
legendary.

Think about this, every time you get an opportunity to try a tactic that is GREY HAT (not quite
BLACK HAT, as in illegal... but might be frowned upon if aired out in the light of day.)

Superhero Challenge 12: How to Create Your Moral Code (Law 6 of 7):
1. Sit and think for a few minutes about any bad service you’ve received, from other would-be
superheroes in your niche. Write down a phrase describing each instance. 3-7 should do.

2. Write down any decisions you can think of, involving you or others, that were in the “gray area”.
3-7 should do.

3. Write down 3-7 things that you definitely know you will not do.

4. Write down 3-7 short-cuts that are typical in delivering “stuff” to your audience.

Now. For each of those items on your list, draw a line down a clean piece of paper.
And put each item clearly on one side (things that are okay) or the other (things that are not okay for me
to do). Write a superhero moral code of things you will not do. Blog about it, to get public
accountability.

Voila! All done!

7. A Nemesis:
Often superheroes have an archenemy who is more troubling than the others.
Often a nemesis is a superhero's doppelganger or foil (e.g., Sabretooth embraces his savage
instincts while Wolverine tries to control his. Batman is grim, while the Joker is flamboyant).

A nemesis could be an individual.

For Super Man, it's Lex Luthor.

But a nemesis could also be a bad habit within you.

www.ThePersonalBrandFormula.com | www.WhoIsBolaji.com
“Become an Invaluable Authority… & Dominate Your Niche.” Page 37
THE PERSONAL BRAND FORMULA:

www.ThePersonalBrandFormula.com Bolaji Oyejide

My nemesis? That's easy. PROCRASTINATION.

Hey - don't try to claim mine - I got procrastination first! LOL!

It's been an issue I've struggled with for many years. But in doing a lot of study about changing
habits, I've learned that "trying harder" / will power is nowhere near enough to change a strong
habit. So I’ve put systems in place, to help me thwart my nemesis, whenever it rears its head.

It actually helps to understand how to create new behavior in oneself.

I haven't obliterated my nemesis yet. But I do know how to keep him at bay.

Every super hero has a nemesis.

So do you.

The nemesis knows your strengths and weaknesses.

And is perfectly designed and engineered to take advantage of your weaknesses.
To hit you where it hurts.

Wolverine's nemesis is his half-brother, Sabretooth.

While their powers are very similar, one uses his powers for good. The other, for not-so-good.

When you think about it that way, it's not so odd to see your nemesis as part of you.
It may not be something that you can totally separate yourself from. But naming your nemesis
allows you to recognize its signature moves. To call it out, when it whispers to you, at your most
stressed or most exhausted moments.

Naming your nemesis, takes away its power.

Superhero Challenge 13: How to Name Your Nemesis (Law 7 of 7):

1. Name your nemesis. Or nemeses, if you have many of them.
Identify the top one. But don’t be afraid to include a couple other troublesome ones, too.

2. Brainstorm on 5 really good ways to defeat each nemesis.

Do some research if you have to.

3. Write down the name of each nemesis.

Note when it tends to rear its ugly head. And note the 3 best ways to defeat it.

Here are the 7 things that most miss when they review the Laws of the Superhero code:
1. Not sharing their BACK STORY. This may be the only 100% unique part of their equation!
2. Not getting clear on their SECRET IDENTITY. What goes public, and what stays private?
3. Not getting specific about their SUPER POWERS, and who they are providing value to.
4. Not writing out their CALLING. Without that compass they waste time & energy wandering.
5. Not investing in a SYMBOL… and expecting everyone to remember what they’re about.
6. Being ambiguous about their MORAL CODE… and then running into the dreaded “gray area”
7. Under-estimating their NEMESIS… and having it snatch victory from them time and time again.

What If You Actually Mastered the 7 Secret Laws of Becoming a Superhero?

 What if your back story was “your best stories”, strung together in a manner that was cohesive,
easy to remember, and descriptive of the value you provide as a person?
 What if both you and your audience knew in what specific ways you could improve their lives?
 What if your best abilities were channeled toward your true calling, versus just earning a living?
 What if you had your nemesis figured out, and could conquer it at will, time and time again?

What if you actually provided significant value, to those who needed it the
most?

Chapter Four: How to Use the 5 Uncommon Super Senses.

Why Should I Learn How to Use the Five Uncommon Super Senses?
By learning how to use the 5 Uncommon Super Senses, you’ll be able to:

1. Hear the unspoken needs of your audience & respond.

2. Communicate more value, in a manner that creates more results, with fewer words.

3. Provide overwhelming value in an open fashion that encourages your audience to

know, like and trust you.

4. Stand out from noisy competitors who yell from rooftops, Facebook, and Twitter. 

With that in mind, let’s get down to the nuts and bolts of how to use the 5 Uncommon Super Senses.

What is the concept behind “the 5 Uncommon Super Senses”?

What I’m about to show you, if you put it to use, will allow you have a responsive relationship with your
audience.

The principles behind this concept:

 I developed the concept of having “an eye for visual thinking” from Dan Roam’s ‘Back of the
Napkin’.
 I developed the concept having “a nose for lose-win deals” from Bob Burg’s ‘Go Givers Sell
More’.
 And the concept of having “hands to CRUSH IT!” comes from Gary Vaynerchuk’s ‘CRUSH IT!’.

Having learned from these authors over the past couple of years, and applied their theories, I combined
them into an easy-to-remember new framework based on the 5 senses. And this new framework is
getting people results!

Here’s what the process looks like:

THE PERSONAL BRAND FORMULA:

www.ThePersonalBrandFormula.com Bolaji Oyejide

1. A Taste for Authenticity:

It all starts here. How authentic are you willing to be?

It feels like a no-brainer question. But the reality is that

short-cuts abound. And you’ll see many people taking
various short-cuts, to apparent (short-term) success.

If you have immediate unmet financial needs, for

example, the temptation to toss your personal ethical
standards or to mimic some successful person to get what
they have – that temptation is sky high.

But in a world of excess information, and dwindling attention, authenticity is the killer app.
Authenticity is the real differentiator. It’s why people crave reality TV, even though we all know
(like wrestling) that IT IS NOT REAL! People want something real to hold on to, in a world full of
plastic and pretentiousness.

“AUTHENTICITY IS WHAT WILL GIVE YOU THE GREATEST CHANCE OF SUCCESS. DNA trumps all.”
-- Gary Vaynerchuk

2. A Nose for Lose-Win Deals:

This sounds crazy.

We all know what a WIN-WIN deal is. It’s where

both sides get what they want out of a deal.

We’ve been taught that this is the ultimate

exchange of value.

But people like Bob Burg (‘The Go Giver’, ‘Go

Givers Sell More’) and Eben Pagan (‘Moving the
Free Line’) beg to differ.

The gist of their theories is that rather than

going for win-win, which is really tit-for-tat,

www.ThePersonalBrandFormula.com | www.WhoIsBolaji.com
“Become an Invaluable Authority… & Dominate Your Niche.” Page 44
THE PERSONAL BRAND FORMULA:
“Discover your Inner Superhero. Become Invaluable.” By
www.ThePersonalBrandFormula.com Bolaji Oyejide

scratch-my-back-and-I’ll-scratch-yours, and just par for the course…

Why not become famous for being at the “wrong” end of lopsided deals, time and time again!
By giving overwhelming value without immediately turning around and demanding value back,
you build trust. You build loyalty. And when you do have something to sell or recommend, you
will have a waiting community of supporters.

Giving shouldn’t even be used as a long-term strategy for GETTING, according to Bob Burg.
Don’t be a Go-GETTER. Be a Go-GIVER. Give for the sake of giving. Give because of what it
makes you. And what it does for the recipients. Not what it gets you. If you’re giving stuff you
care about, to people you care about, you will transform yourself, and the world around you.

3. An Ear for Active Listening

If you’re willing to listen actively… both
personally and professionally, you’ll become
known as a conversationalist.

In his book “You, Inc.”, Harry Beckwith gives

an example of a woman who had attended a
dinner party the night prior.

She was raving about a man she met, with

whom she had the most fascinating
conversation. She couldn’t stop talking about
this guy!

When asked for more detail, it turns out that

while they had spoken for about twenty minutes, he had spoken for only about one of those
twenty minutes!!

She found him so fascinating, because she had done most of the talking.

Don’t under-estimate the power of REALLY LISTENING to your audience.

And I don’t mean listening as in “waiting for them to finish talking, so you can make the brilliant
point you had in mind the minute they started talking”, either! LOL!

4. An Eye for Visual Thinking:

"Visual thinking is an extraordinarily powerful way to solve
problems, and though it may appear to be something new, the
fact is that we already know how to do it."
- Dan Roam, ‘Back of the Napkin’.

According to Dan Roam, we can solve problems with pictures.

And the old saying “a picture is worth a thousand words” sure

sounds appealing, when you consider how long it would take to
read 1,000 words, and how much longer it would take to
understand and remember the message of those words!

If you can learn to harness simple drawings and pictures as part of the value you deliver, you will
instantly stand out from everyone else. Because most grown-ups don’t doodle.

What types of problems can you solve with pictures?

1. Who and What problems: People, things and roles

2. How much problems: Measuring and counting

3. When problems: Scheduling and timing

4. Where problems: Direction, and how things fit together

5. How problems: How things influence each other

6. Why problems: Challenges relating to seeing the big picture

And what types of pictures can be used to solve these problems?

"Visual thinking is learning to think with our eyes - it has NOTHING to do with technology tools."
- Dan Roam

1. People like seeing other people's hand-sketched pictures - no matter how crudely
drawn. The spontaneity makes them less intimidating, and more inviting.

2. Hand-sketched images are quick to create, and easy to change.

3. Computers make it too easy to draw the wrong thing.

So break out your pencils, markers, and crisp white paper!

It’s time to go back to elementary school, to do some doodles!

5. Hands for CRUSHING IT!

Gary Vaynerchuk’s 2009 book, “Crush It! Why
Now Is the Time to Cash in on Your Passion”, was
a brilliant call-to-arms for anyone who’s ever
had a business idea, a vocation they’re
passionate about, or a desire to do more with
their life.

Gary encourages his readers to LIVE THEIR

PASSION.
WHAT DOES GARY MEAN BY “LIVING YOUR
PASSION”?
 You don't live for vacations,
because you don't need a break.
 Working, playing and relaxing are one and the same.
 You don't even pay attention to how many hours you’re working, because you love what
you do.

I put this sense last, because ACTION is THE KILLER APP.

Everything else is icing on the cake.

Having HANDS for CRUSHING IT means taking MASSIVE ACTION, day-after-day, to over-deliver
value to your audience over-and-over again.

This is where the passion comes in.

If you’re not passionate about what you’re doing, this step is really hard to do.

Persistence counts.
Passion counts.
Taking MASSIVE ACTION (“Hulk SMASH! LOL!) counts.

Here’s what you need to do, to master the 5 Uncommon Super Senses:

Superhero Challenge 14: How to Master Your Taste for Authenticity (Super
Sense #1)
1. Know who you are. Own what makes you special. This goes back to earlier Exercises.

2. Just do it. Practice using your super powers, your uniqueness, to provide value to others.

3. Appreciate your strengths. And don’t sell yourself short. Save a running “accomplishments” list.
In particular, save any thanks or appreciation people send you.

Superhero Challenge 15: How to Master Your Nose for Lose-Win Deals
(Super Sense #2)
1. Read Bob Burg’s “The Go Giver”. If you’ve already read it, read it again.
And consider adding his second book, “Go Givers Sell More”, to your reading list.

2. Identify the type of situations (help needed, and type of person needing that help) in which you
would like to provide value. Give that value. And accept nothing more than thanks in return.

If they insist on giving you something, insist that they Pay It Forward. (In so doing, your giving
can have infinite impact!)

3. Take immediate action. Today. Right now. Identify who you will help, and take the first step
before the end of the day.

Superhero Challenge 16: How to Master Your Ear for Active Listening
(Super Sense #3)
1. Use body language to show that you are listening.
- Maintain eye contact
- Nod occasionally.

- Smile and use other facial expressions.

- Note your posture and make sure it is open and inviting.
- Encourage the speaker to continue, using verbal comments like: “yes”, “right”, & “uh huh”.

2. If you’re doing this remotely, translate these techniques into virtual gestures that let the
audience know you are listening. If you’re a blogger, for example:
- Ask a question at the end of every blog post
- Write new content answering questions from your followers, and calling them by name
- Every time you’re writing, have one person in your audience in mind. Write for one.

3. Paraphrase the problem.

- Restate what you hear as the problem, and receive clarification or confirmation
- For bloggers, paraphrase the problem you are hearing, at the beginning of every blog post.
- Identify the audience you are writing for in each post

Superhero Challenge 17: How to Master Your Eye for Visual Thinking
(Super Sense #4)
1. Here is an excellent 50-minute talk that Dan Roam gave at Google recently.
Watch it, and you’ll understand entire concept.

2. Find a problem to represent visually. Actually, find the top 3 problems being experienced by
your audience. You can simplify them to make them easier to tackle as your first project.

3. Use the techniques you’ve learned in the Dan Roam video, to quickly create a “Back of the
Napkin” diagram for each of the 3 problems you’ve picked out. It doesn’t have to be perfect, or
even good – you just have to get them done. 

Superhero Challenge 18: How to Master Hands for Crushing It! (Super
Sense #5)
1. LOVE YOUR FAMILY.

2. WORK SUPER-HARD. EVERY DAY.

3. LIVE YOUR PASSION.

4. FOCUS ON ONE TASK. AND TAKE MASSIVE, RELENTLESS, MERCILESS ACTION AGAINST THAT
TASK. EVERY, SINGLE, DAY. UNTIL YOU CRUSH IT. SMASH IT. GET IT DONE.

Here are the 5 things that most people get caught up on when applying the 5 uncommon
super senses:
1. Compromising on authenticity, because of financial pressure.

2. Practicing WIN-LOSE deals. At your audience’s expense.

3. One-way communication. No dialog.

4. Using a thousand words, when a picture would suffice.

5. Taking mediocre, inconsistent action… and hoping for success.

Don’t get caught up in any of those traps. These five uncommon senses are worth learning – not just for
professional reasons, but even for personal ones.

You won’t master these just by reading about them here, though. Or even by doing the associated
exercise(s). You’ll need continuous exposure and practice.

But if you had to invest your time in something – these are the type of skills that you want to spend your
time learning.

Chapter 5: How to Give Others Super Powers.

A) Why Should You Learn How to Give Others Super Powers?

1. "The greatest good we can do for others is not just to share our riches with them, but to
reveal theirs."-- Zig Ziglar

2. Because giving people useful information is like sending someone who wants to lose weight
a book about losing weight. But adding real value to their life is working out with them,
reminding them of their diet when you’re eating out together, sending them encouraging
messages, celebrating their small victories, picking them up when they fall, and so on.
Creating value isn’t enough. To be super, you have to make others super. And help them get
super results.

3. By giving others super powers, you’ll avoid getting lost in the mass of competitors that have
good ideas and good intentions, but never create any tools that tangibly help people.

With that in mind, we’re now going to get down to the details of learning HOW TO GIVE OTHERS SUPER
POWERS.

What is the concept behind Giving Others Super Powers?

What I’m about to show you will allow get your valuable information found by people around the world
who need your help… and actually get them USING and APPLYING your concepts.

The principles behind this concept are from:

o “Making Money as a Modern Guru”, by Eben Pagan
o “Linchpin: Are You Indispensable?” by Seth Godin
o “Traffic Geyser: 10x10x4 Market Domination Formula”, by Mike Koenigs
o “The Go Giver”, by Bob Burg

I read these three resources a number of times over the past couple of years.
And have applied several of the lessons in my businesses.

While Seth Godin’s “Linchpin: Are You Indispensable?” emphasizes the importance of starting
worthwhile projects that matter, and actually FINISHING them…

In “Making Money like a Modern Guru”, Eben Pagan details techniques on how to make what you do
more valuable to your audience.

Then, in “Traffic Geyser 10x10x4 Market Domination Formula”, Mike Koenigs elaborates on how to ask
and answer the right questions… and then leverage social media to get your info in front of your
audience.

Mike Koenig’s work ties into Bob Burg’s first two Laws of Stratospheric Success, from his book “The Go
Giver”. The Law of Value, and the Law of Compensation. I’ve been able to tie concepts from all four
works, to create a simple but powerful formula for creating and exporting your value, to the greatest
number of people possible.

I’ve seen unprecedented results combining all four resources. You can as well.

THE PERSONAL BRAND FORMULA:

Here’s what the process looks like:

Step One: Building Your Super Powers:

As we discussed earlier in the book, you take the knowledge and talent you have, and apply it.
This builds your overall skill. By applying those skills through the filters of perseverance, focus,
and Passion, you create a STRENGTH, or SUPER POWER!

But now that you have super powers, you’ve got to use them to actually help people.

www.ThePersonalBrandFormula.com | www.WhoIsBolaji.com
“Become an Invaluable Authority… & Dominate Your Niche.” Page 54
THE PERSONAL BRAND FORMULA:

www.ThePersonalBrandFormula.com Bolaji Oyejide

Step Two: Creating Super Value:

You want to actually create bodies of knowledge that address REAL PROBLEMS.
the 10x10 in the diagram means:
- You identify the 10 most frequently asked problems asked about by your audience…
- And then you identify the 10 pieces of advice your audience most NEEDS to hear. Often they
don’t even know that they should be asking about THESE things.

Now that you know the BIGGEST PROBLEMS that your audience needs answers to… go ahead
and answers those questions.

You can use eBooks, Audio (Podcasts), Videos, Webinars, Live Seminars, Group Coaching, or
One-on-One Coaching to answer these burning questions!

1. eBooks:
- Take whatever you do, and break it into 10 steps
- Take each step and break into up to 10 elements
- Write one page on each, you literally have a book.

2. Audio:
You can create audio interviews featuring you:
- Have a friend ask you questions.
- Use the outline of your book (above) to guide the questions
- You answer the questions, then you can edit out all the questions he's asking you

Or you can create audio interviews featuring experts in your niche:

- You can build instant credibility, even as a newbie, by interviewing experts
- Find something of value to offer the expert in exchange:
- exposure for the interview, services you can provide for free, etc.
- Conduct the interview using Skype (and Pamela for Skype to record)… all free.

3. Video:
Video is perceived as more valuable than written content, and audio.
- You can do screen captures, using Camtasia Studio (or the free alternative, CamStudio)
- You can also use your Webcam to record yourself – a good way of building rapport
- Video is the best way to connect with a remote audience.
- So plan to make this one of your super powers!

4. Webinars:
Webinars are live video+audio sessions. They’re very common in Business-to-Business settings…

www.ThePersonalBrandFormula.com | www.WhoIsBolaji.com
“Become an Invaluable Authority… & Dominate Your Niche.” Page 55
THE PERSONAL BRAND FORMULA:
“Discover your Inner Superhero. Become Invaluable.” By
www.ThePersonalBrandFormula.com Bolaji Oyejide

and in industries like Internet Marketing . They’re a great way to deliver a live seminar minus the
expense of travel and hotels.  They also allow you to get into much more detail than you
normally would with a single video training. And they provide immediate social proof – each
member of the audience feels like they’re a part of something significant.

5. Live Seminars:
The impact of live seminars is hard to duplicate. Not only do you get to mix-and-mingle with
your audience, but they get to learn from each other. Most professionals don’t conduct live
seminars. There are new challenges, such as the fear of speaking in public, logistical capabilities,
and cost, that keep most out of this arena. Have a live seminar, and you are instantly seen as an
industry expert.

6. Group or Live Coaching:

Coaching provides the most value to your audience, because they are receiving focused
attention from you. They’re not only receiving knowledge, but they also getting mentorship as
you look over their shoulder while they put your knowledge to work.

You’ll note that as you progressed further into this list, the value (or perceived value anyway) of
the items increased. When you get to the point of providing coaching to people, you’ll really be
helping majority of your customers get tangible results… and earning much more from this than
from, say, your eBooks.

Step Three: Delivering Super Value:

Being good isn’t good enough. The right people actually have to KNOW it.

Fortunately, we live in the age of the Internet. Thanks to Blogs, Search Engines, and Social Media web
sites like Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter, your message can be amplified and broadcast far and wide.

You’ll want to have a presence for your brand on each of the properties listed above. At a minimum.
Other sites like Squidoo.com, Hubpages.com, and EzineARticles.com are also good. But since we’re all
about focus, how about you just focus on delivering value through your blog, and the big three (FB,
YouTube, Twitter)?

Note that having an account isn’t enough! You have to deliver real value!
Collecting fans on Facebook, followers on Twitter, and subscribers on YouTube IS A WASTE OF
TIME, ENERGY, AND MONEY. Unless you have regular, compelling content to keep them
engaged.

THE PERSONAL BRAND FORMULA:

Step Three: Delivering Super Value:

Be careful not to become obsessed with doing “social media” before you’ve built your super
powers, and delivered value with those super powers. Otherwise, you’re amplifying nothing but
empty air.

We’ll give you very specific strategies for building your brand in social media, in the final
chapter.

I’m going to tell you exactly what you need to do, to GIVE OTHERS SUPER POWERS.
1. Top 10 FAQ:
Identify the top 10 questions most frequently being asked by your audience . Searching for the
most commented topics in targeted discussion forums is a surefire way to do this quickly.

2. Top 10 Advice:
Okay, now that you know what people are asking, use your knowledge of your focus area to
identify 10 questions people SHOULD be asking (but probably aren’t).

3. Do your research:
Answer these 20 questions (not all at once, unless you’re a glutton for punishment… ha ha).
Get your detailed answers, then summarize in bullet form.
You now know enough to be dangerous. LOL! 
Actually, you are now equipped to add REAL VALUE to the majority of your target audience.
Don’t look now, but you’re an expert in a very narrow niche.

4. Start building your content funnel:

You can start with whichever medium suits you most. For some, that’s writing. Write some blog
posts on the 20 questions, to find your writing voice. Then write an eBook.
Or, you could start by recording videos! For example, I addressed the top 10 questions in one
my target niches, with a video series: The Top 10 Things People Want to Know About Making
Money Online.

THE PERSONAL BRAND FORMULA:

5. Get your feet wet in social media:

Set up an account on the big three. And start delivering valuable content there.

There are automated ways to get followers and subscribers more quickly than usual, but they
are a waste of time, if those followers don’t find any valuable content the first time they visit
you. Very few will give you a second chance to fix that first bad impression.

6. Start with your blog. Post daily (yeah, I said it! Daily!)
You will have next to no audience initially. That’s okay – we all started there. Here’s your
chance to write with very little judgment! 

You can later start to feed your blog content to Twitter and Facebook.

Here are the 3 things that most people get caught up on when defining their personal brand:
1. Starting at the wrong end of the process!
Most of us want to see results right away. So we like to start working on the tasks that show
instant “results”. I call this “Just To See” approach.
“I know I shouldn’t be working on this now, but let me do it “just to see” if I’ll even get any
results. Before I invest my whole focus on this…”

Start at the beginning – or risk going down random rabbit holes, and struggling to come out. 

2. Not doing the basics – not answering the 10x10:

Often those of us in the business of creating content struggle to figure out what to write.
Let’s not make this complicated. This can be an unnecessary delaying tactic.
Simply find out the top 10 questions being asked by your audience… and answer those.

3. Never “shipping” or releasing something:

Another stalling tactic is to work on a project endlessly, trying to perfect it, without ever getting
it out of the door. I’ve done this a lot – I blogged recently about an eBook titled “We Want You
to Fail” that I was co-authoring with other marketers. I was the coordinator. And for whatever
reason, I didn’t get the eBook shipped. It is full of really valuable information… and is gathering
cobwebs on my hard drive. It happens to all of us. Get into the habit of finishing quickly and
imperfectly. (I’m still working on this! Ha ha!)

What if this actually worked for you?

What if you got the point where you weren’t just “giving people fish”… you were “teaching them to
fish”?

It might sound silly to some. But it is daily reality for more people than you probably imagine.

The ability to create so much value that others are actually able to generate and pass on their own
value, is priceless.

Now we’re entering LEGACY territory. 

accounts.

2. Blogging Communicates your Super Power:

A blog helps you communicate your unique value and purpose.

The more you write about it, the more it comes into focus for you. Blogging forces you
to think, deeply, about your chosen area of focus.

 If I asked you to come up with 50 topics to blog about, that your audience would
care about, could you?
 Even if you couldn't think of 50 right now, could you do 25?
 Even if you couldn't think of 25 right now, could you do 10?
 And if you can think of 10 topics that your audience would like to talk about,
right now, you can get to 50 with some concerted brainstorming.

Blogging forces you to become an expert, over time, even if you don't start out as one.

3. Blogging Helps Your Audience to Know, Like & Trust You:

A blog builds trust, reputation, and a position of authority.

Because of the constant communication from you, your audience comes to know what
to expect. A blog provides living proof that you are providing tangible value.

Blogging allows you to demonstrate your knowledge, and position yourself as an expert.

4. Blogging Helps Industry Leaders to Know, Like & Trust You:

other thought leaders in the industry. Being able to build relationships with the
industry leaders of your field is a priceless boost to your personal brand.

audience. And get valuable feedback about what's working, and what people need.

Blogging moves you from aspirational thinking, to practical building.

The Top 10 Ways to Build Your Personal Brand Using a Blog:

1. Have a Unique Blog Design:

THE PERSONAL BRAND FORMULA:

There are probably hundreds of thousands of blog designs out there... ranging from
FREE (used by countless bloggers just starting out), to PREMIUM (more exclusive, with
better features, but still used by many), to custom-designed (unique to you).

Find one that speaks to your sense of identity. But if you can at least get a premium
theme, and not a free one. Premium themes can start as low as $20, so a lot of them
are quite affordable.

As far as blog designs go, you can get some GREAT premium themes from sites like
Themeforest, WooThemes, StudioPress, DIYthemes, and many others.

2. Buy yourname.com, and Self-host your blog:

Get yourname.com vs yourname.wordpress.com, from GoDaddy. It looks a lot more
professional, and is more memorable.

If yourname.com happens to be taken, consider adding a modifier to your name, but

still sticking with a .com domain name (as opposed to selecting a .net, .me, .tv, or other
alternative.)

3. Self-Host versus Free Hosting:

Also - you want to self-host your blog. Services like wordpress and blogger will host
your blog for you at no cost. But web hosting is dirt cheap these days. So you can
afford to self-host.

For $10/month or LESS, you can host your own blog. Self-hosting enables you to take
advantage of the blog plugins that unlimited useful bells and whistles to your blog. You
can't do that if you're not self-hosting your blog.

By the way, self-hosting doesn't mean that you have a computer server under the desk
in your house! It means you buy service with companies like DreamHost.com or
Hostgator.com. These hosting companies host your blog for you - as opposed to your
having it hosted by Wordpress.

4. Create your own tag line:

This lets visitors know exactly what you're about It should be a benefit. This way - every
time your audience visits your blog, they're reminded of what you can do for them.

5. Create an “About Me” page:

The about me page tells your personal story.

If new blog visitors like your latest blog post, a large number of them will seek out your
about me page. You may want to have your personal photo and an intro paragraph of
your story, in the sidebar of every page. Then, people can click that to get to your
“About me” page.

6. Search Engine Optimize your blog:

Decide what 2 or 3 keyword phrases your blog will be centered on, and ensure that a
majority of your posts center around those keywords. This way, when an individual
does a search engine search on your keyword phrase, you have a decent chance of
showing up in the results.

Note that there’s a lot more that goes into Search Engine Optimization. It’s worth
understanding, and worth doing one’s due diligence at it. But not worth obsessing over,
because gaming the search engine system (-ex- stuffing your blog post with a ridiculous
number of instances of your keyword) simply doesn’t work. 

7. Share personal failures, and how they've built your character

Don't try to look like Superman on your blog.
Appear human, and people will thank you for it.

8. Build your Mailing List:

Offer a free information product, to build your email list.

Email allows for further relationship-building with your audience. List building is an
extensive topic in and of itself. But the main value of list-building is this – imagine
you’re opening a brand-new restaurant in the neighborhood.

Some people come by, browse the menu, admire the ambience, but then leave.

Other people come by, have a meal, and enjoy it. But you don’t know if they’ll return or
not.

Here’s where list-building helps.

For the people “just browsing”, imagine that your hostess offers them a 50% of coupon,
if they share their contact information, and agree to be sent weekly tips on fine cuisine?

That will convert a number of the browsers into customers! And, you’ll be able to build
a relationship with them. That’s the free offer that you’re making to visitors of your
web site.

And even for those who are already regulars – by having their contact information, you
can send them special offers, further demonstrate your value and expertise in this area
of cuisine, and take them from just customers, to loyal fans and advocates.

List building is a good thing. Having a blog gives you a hub from which you can invite
people to join your mailing list.

9. Make it easy to share your content via social media:

There are several blog plug-ins (usually free software) that enhance your blog. Many of
them are dedicated to content sharing.

Having buttons that make it easy for people to do a Facebook like a ReTweet, to stumble
your post on StumbleUpon, to bookmark your post on Digg or Delicious.com. Those are
all great ways for a single fan of yours to win you brand new fans.

10.Build social proof:

Social proof is the unconscious validation that we all use to determine whether the
choices we're making are sound or not. It's human nature.

If it appears a lot of people have already made a decision - in this case, indicated that
they know, like and trust you, it becomes much easier for the next person to take that
same leap of faith.

Having widgets (graphical buttons) on your site that show the number of facebook fans,
twitter followers, youtube subscribers, or blog readers, that you have, is valuable. As
are testimonials from real live people, a listing of mentions of you by other authorities in
the niche, and so on.

Social proof works.

11.Blog hop:
Visit other blogs in your niche, and comment on them.

Each comment should include your personal photo, and a link back to your blog. And
your comments should be valuable and insight ful (not: "Great post", or "I agree!")

This way, you're building your brand on other people's blogs... and attracting some of
the comment readers back to your blog

How to Build your Personal Brand on YouTube.

YouTube is probably your most powerful and most underrated personal
branding platform. As you’ll recall from the “value funnel” in the
diagram “How to Create Super Results”: Events > Video > Audio > Words.

Short of speaking with someone face-to-face, video is the best medium

for communication nuance, emotion, humanity.

The fact is that video is by far the most engaging format of electronic content.

Video is the only channel that shows a name with a face.

Would you believe that YouTube is only 6 years old?

The first video uploaded to YouTube, went live on April 23rd, 2005.

When the official launch happened in December 2005, they were logging 8 MILLION VIDEOS
WATCHED A DAY.

Here are a few reasons why your brand should be on YouTube today.
1. YouTube gets OVER TWO BILLION VIEWS A DAY!

2. 35 hours-worth of video are uploaded every minute!

3. 3 - The average person spends 15 minutes a day (every day)on YouTube .

That means every person in your target audience, is watching 15 minutes of video daily.

4. Google's automatic speech recognition technology can translate YouTube videos and
create captions in 51 languages. This means you can shoot the video once, and then
have Google create a transcript for you automatically! Wow.

5. YouTube is the 2nd most popular search engine in the world, after Google.com.

Ahead of Microsoft's BING.com, and ahead of Yahoo.com.

Plus, 70% of YouTube's traffic comes from outside the US.
You're reaching a worldwide audience.

The Top 10 Ways to Build Your Brand Using YouTube:

1. Brand your channel name (youtube.com/yourfullname)

2. Use your personal photo in your profile

3. Use your personal photo in your channel background

4. Add your value proposition to your channel background

5. Customize your channel layout:

a. Channel title and tags (Use keywords that your audience would search for)
b. Themes and colors
c. Modules to show (comments, recent activity, subscribers, subscriptions)
d. Featured video (Don't use 'latest video', choose the video that best introduces
you to new subscribers)

6. Create a video resume:

One that points out what your super power is, and why you are different

7. Create a signature video intro:

Music:
for anywhere between $5 and $20, you can get custom music from web sites like
AudioJungle.com, and Pond5.com. The range of music is mind-boggling, and most of the
quality is very impressive.

Tagline:
Use your personal brand tagline consistently on all your videos. You can narrate the
tagline with your voice, and also put the text up on the screen.

THE PERSONAL BRAND FORMULA:

Visuals:
You can string together the same visual sequence of images, along with the same music,
for your intro. It thus becomes like a familiar TV show!

Graphics:
Web sites like GettyImages.com and iStockPhoto.com are great for finding affordable
images that make you stand out. You can also commission graphic artists on sites like
oDesk.com, Guru.com, Fiverr.com, CartoonStock.com, and 99Designs.com. The options
are limitless!

8. Types of content that work:

a. Entertaining content
b. Personal case studies
c. Personal, amateur video
(know, like & trust... people don't want a big brand to interact with.)
d. Create "How-To" guides
e. Feature your 10x10 content (Top 10 FAQs, and and Top 10 SAQs) on YouTube

9. Video calls-to-action:
Emphasize "subscription" to your YouTube channel, in each video. You can do this
verbally, put text on the screen reminding people to subscribe, and even insert a link
within the video that points to your channel subscription.

You’ll also want to link to others of your videos, at the end of every video.

(See the Kyle T Garrett Lifepreneur podcast interview at the end of this chapter. His
YouTube marketing does this brilliantly.)

10. About Me video:

Tell your personal story (your about me" page) with video. Again, this is an excellent
way to get your audience to know, like and trust you.

11. Include your URL:

They could consume your video anywhere... so always include your blog URL in the
video

Get started with video ASAP.

This strategy goes hand-in-hand with your blogging. Simply fire up your web cam, and record
your talking head saying something .LOL!

Secret: it doesn’t have to be smart, profound, or insightful. Just pretend you’re talking to a friend – not someone
you are trying to impress. See examples here – http://www.YouTube.com/RenegadeRatRacer

How to Build your Personal Brand on Facebook.

What’s the big deal about Facebook anyway?

1. Facebook has more than 400 million active users

2. 50% of Facebook’s active users log on daily
3. Average user spends more than 55 minutes per day on Facebook
4. There are more than 3 million active Pages on Facebook
5. And more than 20 million people become fans of Pages each day
6. More than 100 million active users access Facebook through mobile devices

How Does Facebook Help to Build Your Personal Brand?

1. Interaction with your audience:
Facebook is largely informal... allowing for richer conversations with your audience.
When your fans interact with your fan page, that interaction appears in their newsfeed -
and their friends see that!

The Top 7 Ways to Build your Personal Brand with a Facebook Fan Page:

1. Leverage Fan Page Photos for featured on Fun and Profit:

Facebook has taken the layout from regular profiles and used it on the fan page -
putting an emphasis on the last 5 photos on the fan page.

This means fan pages now have a real highlight on your photos.

So how can you use the photos feature as a marketing and brand-building tool?

Mari Smith, Facebook expert, has pioneered the concept of putting 5 creative Calls-To-
Action your 5 most recent images! These appear at the top of your fan page and, when
clicked, pop-up in a new photo viewer (clicks on a photo thumbnail used to take you to a
separate page for that photo… making it easy to lose the page you were navigating in
www.ThePersonalBrandFormula.com | www.WhoIsBolaji.com
“Become an Invaluable Authority… & Dominate Your Niche.” Page 76
THE PERSONAL BRAND FORMULA:
“Discover your Inner Superhero. Become Invaluable.” By
www.ThePersonalBrandFormula.com Bolaji Oyejide

the first place.

Mari points out that the thumbnail images are 97x68 pixels. So make your images
970x680 pixels, and they will be resized perfectly!

Very creative.

Another quick photo tip for your fan page?

Be sure to use a large image, with dimensions of about 200x600 pixels, for your fan page
profile picture. These are the maximum dimensions for a profile picture (fan page or
personal profile). If you use a smaller image, or one that doesn’t meet those
dimensions, you’ll end up having a smaller profile pic than you would like.

You’ll want a picture of yourself in that image, too. That way, whenever you post a
comment, photo, video, or status update, your face shows up!

2. Create a Welcome tab:

Facebook fan pages allow you to create custom tabs that contain what they call FBML,
or FaceBook Markup Language. (Very similar to HTML, except with some Facebook-
specific tags.)

The most important custom tab you can create is a Welcome tab.

A welcome tab is what visitors who have not yet liked your page will see.

A best practice is to feature a video of you on this page, making an exclusive offer in
exchange for the visitor liking the page. Or, you might make that offer in exchange for
the visitor filling out a lead capture form (which can be embedded on that welcome
page).

Welcome new fans to your home on Facebook. Use it to express the benefits of joining
your page, promote special campaigns you’ve got going on at the moment, anything you
like.

The beauty is that you can configure your Facebook page’s admin settings so that fans

THE PERSONAL BRAND FORMULA:
“Discover your Inner Superhero. Become Invaluable.” By
www.ThePersonalBrandFormula.com Bolaji Oyejide

go to another tab (usually the comment wall). But visitors go to the welcome tab.

3. Posting as a Brand:
As a fan page owner, you can now post throughout Facebook (on your page, other
pages, and people’s personal profiles, as the fan page brand!

This gives a lot more visibility to your branded fan page, and attracts some of your
regular followers (and theirs) back to your page.

To use this feature (toggle between posting as yourself and as the brand), simply use a
drop down menu at the top of the Facebook page under “account.”

4. Facebook Ads, and Friends of Fans (Social Graph Advertising):

Facebook ads are a very effective way of finding people with similar interests to you.
While similar to Google ads in concept (text ads on the side of the page), they are often
much more affordable, and much more effective.

They tend to be more affordable probably because there is less competition for
advertising on Facebook right now. That, of course, will change.

The targeting options also allow you to control the cost. You can target by geography,
interests (what other pages the audience likes), age, gender, and random keywords.

But one of the most interesting advertising options is “social graph advertising”. It limits
visibility of the ad to friends of your fans! How clever is that?

Plus, when the ad is served to an individual, one of your friends for example, a caption
below the ad says: XYZ (your name) likes this ad.

5. Invite Participation:
On your Facebook Page, encourage engagement from your followers. Pose a question.
Ask them to upload photos. Nurture a natural dialogue — and the conversation doesn’t
need to be about your brand.

www.ThePersonalBrandFormula.com | www.WhoIsBolaji.com
“Become an Invaluable Authority… & Dominate Your Niche.” Page 78
THE PERSONAL BRAND FORMULA:
“Discover your Inner Superhero. Become Invaluable.” By
www.ThePersonalBrandFormula.com Bolaji Oyejide

Additionally - research that’s been done has found that when fan page owners actually
ask fan page members to LIKE and COMMENT, there’s increased participation from that
alone.

I’ve also found that fans with whom you’ve interacted with one a one-on-one basis
outside of the fan page are much more likely to participate. Lots of experiments I’ve run
have found that fans collected from ads, for example, may not stay attentive to your
message.

So don’t be in a hurry to get to a thousand fans. Use your fan page as a tool to facilitate
interaction with the real fans that you have. And over time, you will attract brand new
“real” fans.

6. Reward your fans:

A way to attract more “Like” thumbs is to offer something special for your fans. Special
discounts, exclusive information, contests, or just off-the-wall dialog can go a long way
toward building relationships and loyalty among fans.

The guys at the The Fan Page Factory have a very creative way of rewarding their fans.
They feature a FAN OF THE WEEK in their fan page image. What a great concept!

Of course, the fans have to work for this recognition, by doing something simple. So it’s
a two-for-one… you’re encouraging participation AND you’re rewarding fans!

7. Use Facebook’s Insights:

How many interactions did you have with fans this week?
How many people commented on your posts?
Where are your fans located?
Are they mostly female or male?

The answers to these questions will enable you to make better use of your page plan of
future activities.

Facebook is a great place to start brand-building.

How to Build your Personal Brand on Twitter.

Twitter was founded in 2006. The fledgling platform was ready for its
first tweet on March 21, after eight days of programming, according to
Twitter creator and co-founder Jack Dorsey.

And in the time since then, here are some stunning numbers on
Twitter’s growth:

 3 years, 2 months and 1 day. The time it took from the first
Tweet to the billionth Tweet.

 1 week. The time it now takes for users to send a billion Tweets.

 50 million. The average number of Tweets people sent per day, one year ago.
 140 million. The average number of Tweets people sent per day, in the last month.

 460,000. Average number of new accounts per day over the last month..

Twitter is MASSIVE for relationship-building with otherwise unattainable people in your niche.

It is the ultimate leveler.

In fact, it turns out that the “A-Listers” in your industry are probably active Twitter users… and much
more accessible via Twitter than any other means of contact!

Also - just having conversations with folks in this public forum allows you to catch the eye of the right
people.

You could call this CONVERSATION MARKETING.

If your followers see that you’re having a Twitter conversation with an “A-Lister” in your industry, that
immediately strengthens YOUR personal brand.

Twitter, like Wordpress in blogging, has a great ecosystem. This means that there are lots of 3rd-party
developers that create all kinds of nifty tools, which integrate with Twitter. It expands the range of what
you can do with the tool to incredible breadths.

But don’t be distracted by the cool tools (I went through that phase – so I know of what I speak. Ha ha!)

The most important thing is good, old-fashioned relationship building.

And you don’t need any fancy tools for that.

12 Ways to Build Your Personal Brand in Twitter:

1. Choose a good branded Twitter Handle:

There was a bit of a “gold rush” when Twitter first became popular.
Unfortunately some folks decided to squat on Twitter handles for famous people, and famous
brands.
While you probably don’t have someone squatting on the Twitter handle matching your name,
you may have a namesake that’s ahead of you.
If so, get creative about modifying your name (within the confines of about 13 characters.)
If your Twitter handle isn’t based on your name, then it can be based on your web site.
But you don’t want to stray from those two options.
2. Work on your Twitter Bio and Link:
Have a clear and concise bio… and then link to your blog.
The bio should contain your value proposition (as in, what will you do to be useful to
subscribers?
If you use Twitter several times a week, you can even link to your most recent blog post… and
update that link as appropriate.
3. Get a nice Twitter background image:
TwitPaper, TwitterImage, TwitrBackgrounds, and TwitBacks are all good places to look for a
suitable background.
The Twitter background offers ample branding opportunities.

You can add your personal photo (a large one this time, not like the Twitter profile pic),
You can include a short bio, and
You can include your social media URLs.

4. Feed your blog content into Twitter:

Look to use tools like Twitterfeed, Pluggio, SocialOomph.
This is an effective way to share your latest blog content with your Twitter followers – thus
attracting traffic, and to a certain extent, new blog subscribers.

You can also integrate Twitter into your blog, using a 3rd-party blog plugin.
This will show your latest tweets on your web site (often in the sidebar), and will encourage
cross-pollination of content, ideas, and followers.

5. Position yourself as an expert:

There are lots of ways to do this. They all revolve around being useful.
Schedule Q&A sessions with your followers,
Build lists featuring your key topics that link your followers to other Tweeters who provide
value…

www.ThePersonalBrandFormula.com | www.WhoIsBolaji.com
“Become an Invaluable Authority… & Dominate Your Niche.” Page 83
THE PERSONAL BRAND FORMULA:
“Discover your Inner Superhero. Become Invaluable.” By
www.ThePersonalBrandFormula.com Bolaji Oyejide

things like that.

The more value you give the valuable you become. And the more value you eventually receive.

6. Create a Twitter mastermind group:

With a Twitter group of like-minded individuals, you can actively retweet each other’s content.
But ONLY when the content is relevant and valuable.

7. Resist the urge to sell.

There are already too many spam marketers on Twitter. Use for relationship-building, instead.
You can use your blog for selling. But selling on Twitter might be akin to standing on the side of
the street, trying to get passersby to buy hubcaps from you.
Build a relationship first, then you’ll be able to sell more hubcaps.

Note that selling on Twitter does earn some marketers money, but these marketers are not
focused on relationship-building or personal branding.
They churn-and-burn their followers, basically. And you don't want that for your brand.

8. Use a real profile picture:

People want human interaction. You are the brand – so use your face.

9. Add the retweet button to your blog posts:

But be sure to configure the blog plug-in so that when it offers the retweet text, it features
YOUR Twitter handle, and not @tweetmeme (the twitter handle for TweetMeme, creators of
the retweet button) I happen to use the Sharebar plugin on my site, and it includes a Retweet
button.

10. Use Twitter Lists:

Follow people whose opinions you find interesting.
Re-tweet their work.
Add value to them, when you can, by answering their questions.
Oh. And add them to Twitter lists.

Twitter lists are a great way to let your followers know who you are really paying attention to.
They’re also a neat way to organize the people you’re following. Some people use them every
time they go to a networking event, for example. They’ll create a twitter list just for the folks
they met at that event. It can facilitate several ongoing conversations with different groups of
friends and colleagues. Which is pretty nice for long-term relationship-building.

11. Monitor the conversation.

You can use Twitter Search or Google Alerts to search the Tweetstream for particular phrases.
That then allows you to go in and surgically respond to individuals across the world who are
talking about your area of interest! Neat, isn’t it?

THE PERSONAL BRAND FORMULA:

12. Filter who you follow:

Your follower-building strategy could be one of many. You may choose to follow lots of folks,
because reciprocal following is quite common on Twitter. If you do so, you won’t be able to pay
attention to ALL of their tweets. So you’ll need a way to filter most of it out.

Tools like TweetDeck allow you to only really listen to a limited number of the people you
follow.
Without having to drop everyone else from your “following” number.

Bonus: Reputation Management:

Measure your reputation by how many Twitter Lists you appear on (not by how many followers you
have).
People add you to one of their Twitter Lists, to publicly denote that you’re someone they really want to
pay attention to.

It’s worth re-iterating – Twitter is most useful when used for relationship-building. Traffic can be an
added benefit, but I’ve learned first-hand that going in with the mindset of generating a lot of traffic for
your site is not only ineffective, but can contradict the personal brand you’re working so hard to build.

Conclusion.

Okay. If you got this far, this was a good read for you. Now what?

With most eBooks, we may note a thing or two, here and there.
But too often, eBooks become no more than space-holders on our hard drives.

Don’t waste this opportunity.

If you found these value maps, chapters, and linked-to videos+podcasts valuable…

Let’s do some skill building.

Let’s get through all 18 exercises. You can even do one per day.
These really simple exercises will hyper-accelerate your personal brand.

Don’t worry that how giving so much with no strings attached will leave you broke, and inventory-
less. LOL! For one, what you’re giving away is information… particularly in digital form. It doesn’t cost
much of anything to give that away.

And your value-giving is replacing all the energy that goes into chasing prospects / leads around, in an
endless scavenger hunt for “the next lead”. Sit back, create value, give value, and let the leads find you.

This diagram shows the relationship between VALUE & EXPECTED

COMPENSATION.

Note the placement of the Superhero (Gives more value than is expected at that level of compensation),

And the Super villain (Gives less value than is expected at that level of compensation.)

Most people, most businesses, live ON the line. Or below it. Very few rise above that line.

But those that do – become LEGEND. And the compensation soon follows.

Because everyone wants the best. AND YOUR PERSONAL BRAND IS ABOUT TO BE… THE BEST.
