CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION
When you travel for fun, you're a tourist. Tourists

just want to see or experience something interesting and
different to their everyday lives. According to Daniel J.
Boorstin, the tourist is passive; he expects interesting
things to happen to them. They goes "sight-seeing. These
words mean that tourist is allowing them self to travel
until they come across the place they would like to explore
or to have an experience. As a tourist destination, the
Philippines are an amazing country and have a great travel
experience. The country is loaded with the attractions
travelers’ dream of, lots of sun, gorgeous beaches, world-
class scenery, adventure opportunities, friendly outgoing
locals, fascinating history and lots of little-roamed
territory. One of the progressive islands in the Philippines
is Panay Island. Panay Island belongs to the Western Visayas
Region in Central Philippines and is divided into five
provinces, namely Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Iloilo and
Guimaras. . This island is one of the major travel and
heritage destinations in the Philippines.
It is most known as a tourist hub where the wonderful

beaches, heritage sites, hotels, museums, best restaurants,
shopping districts and nightlife in the provinces await. It
is also famous for the different festival, delicious foods
and delicacies, etc. The island offers lots of destinations
and adventures worth exploring.

Nowadays, the technological advancements have made take

a leap towards success. Every new invention in technology is
a step towards progress of mankind. The use of technology
can greatly help people in all daily activities especially
when you are travelling. Most of travelers are now making
full use of the conveniences that technology has brought us,
whether it’s planning a trip, or accessing information
regarding a certain place while on the road.
During past few years, searching a place where you want

to go is very difficult. Unlike, these days accessing via
internet and through the newest technology would be
effortless to search and decide a certain place to go to.
Using this interactive website, the tourist

destinations become an efficient way for the travelers.
Due to fast progress of the technological advancements,

there is also a fast improvement in different areas of
technology. One of the reasons of this fast improvement is
the rivalry that will lead to make ideas to build an online
application and web based system. Aside from this, there is
also a demand to provide customer needs in terms of tourism
purposes that will help put up the society as well us to
raise the number of the tourist visiting the place.
When it comes to tourism, the first thing bear in mind

is the ease to travel and explore the natural attractions of
local and foreign tourist in different places. Like Panay
Island which is known for its usual splendor of nature, it
is blessed with its natural and historical attractions like
picturesque beaches, old churches, exquisite heritage and

marine sanctuaries. Many tourists are excited to come and

experience wherein they can enjoy and unwind their self in
the place. As time pass by, tourist attractions and
destinations are further increase for the traveler who wants
enjoyable experiences and adventure.
The proposed project can help to promote best

destinations and well-known tourist spots in Panay Island.
The features include the places to go, wherein the

tourist can view the different tourist spots, things to do
where can guide the tourist what things they try to
experience, the means of transformation to reach the place
and they can learn how to speak basic Hiligaynon, Kinaray-a
and Aklanon dialects. All of this is through animated scenes
that uploaded in YouTube channel and to our interactive
website.
The proposed system also includes the gallery and its
description and the search bar where the user can search
information and have an idea about Panay Island. The system
is a web- based and can access also on mobile devices. The
system will help users search tourist spots in Panay Island
and gain information about the place and things and provide
map of destinations.

Figure 1.0 shows the Conceptual Framework of the
proposed project.
PROJECT CONTEXT

The proposed project helps the user a lot. A user

refers to both foreign and domestic traveler of Panay
Island. The importance of web-based system is to provide
animated scenes from YouTube channel which express user to
places, adventure, foods and delicacies, means of
transportation, basic dialect phrases and others that
attract tourist who are new to the place. This kind of
system will provide information about the tourist
destination.
Since the interactive website is intended for both

local and foreign tourist, it will available in any device
that can support browsers. The features provide interaction
between the user and the device.
Given that the system is web-based which is accessible

also in mobile device, the user doesn’t need a lot of effort
just to know the information about the tourist attraction.
With the proposed project, users are ease to gain access
with information.
PURPOSE AND DESCRIPTION OF THE PROJECT

The proposed project aims to attain the user needs in

viewing different attractions in Panay Island. This will
provide animated scenes that uploaded on You Tube with
description. The system will also provide the gallery with a
description that will serve as a guide for tourist and an
idea about the natural attractions and a unique ways that
will give motivations for the tourist to visit Panay Island.
Aside from the animated scenes and gallery, it also

includes the Google map and a Facebook page that will help
tourist easily locate the tourist destinations. This is a
unique way of promoting Panay Island for the reason that all
of scenes are animated.
For the ease of the user, it will develop as web-based

that will provide access to the information. It will allow
the traveler to become more accessible to any part of the
globe as long as internet access is available.
At the end, if the proposed project will be ready for

implementation, this system will be intended for any
operating system that will be using of programming language
of Php with Database of My Sql.
GENERAL OBJECTIVES

The project aims to develop a Trip to Panay: An

interactive website in order to promote the tourism in Panay
Island.
Specifically, the project aims to develop a website that

could:
1. Create an interactive website to promote tourism in

Panay Island.
2. To develop a website with animations scenes.
 Create scenes of a tourist spot in Panay Island
and upload to the YouTube.
3. Create database to store the contents of a website.
4. Enable users to use the search bar of a website to
search the tourist spots in Panay Island.
5. Create a scene that teaches people to translate English
to Panayanon phrases.
SCOPE AND LIMITATION OF THE PROJECT

Due to up-and-coming new technologies, the

technological advancements have made take a leap towards
success. Every new invention in technology is a step towards
progress of mankind. The use of technology can greatly
improve all industry operations.
From the most basic to the most complex of operations

of a business can greatly make the business more productive
and effective. That is why today’s technology is a key
towards success, economic development and to ensure a better
future.
With the emerging technology, the researchers proposed

a project entitled Loray’s trip to Panay, an interactive
website for the tourism.
Loray’s trip to Panay is web-base system intended for

both domestic and foreign tourist of Panay Island. The
proposed project will provide animated scenes from You Tube,
gallery of different attractions and description. The
project also provides a map to the certain destination and a
Facebook page.
This study is focused on providing convenience of the

user to know the best destinations and what Panay Island is.
The features of the system focused to the following

particulars:
 Search tourist attractions

 Provide animated scenes of different attractions and
gallery according to its category.

 Provide information to searched attractions such as

places to go, things to do, dialect phrases and
transportation.
 Admin users are able to login, update, edit and delete
data.
The proposed project only limits on the following:
 The website will not support the registration of the

traveler. There is no online registration; the
travelers are not require to register.
 The system will not support the online reservation of
the tourist spot and other places.
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE PROJECT

In this study, the Panay Island, Department of Tourism,

the travelers and the future researchers will benefit in
this project.
The Panay Island - which is compose of Antique, Aklan,

Capiz, Iloilo, and Guimaras will benefit in this study. This
study will help the economic growth of the Island.
The Department of Tourism - it may help them to promote and

market tourism in Panay Island. This project will help
tourism to raise the economic, socio-cultural and
environmental benefits of the Island.
The Travelers - it may be able to view online the best

destinations to explore Panay Island and give them
comfortable mood while they are travelling and they view the
website in their home as long as internet connection is
available.
The Future researcher - it will serve as a guide for their

study and reference to their future learning. This project
will help the researchers gain much knowledge and skills
that needed to their study.

The following terms were used in the study that needs

to be defined for further understanding.
Database - is a collection of information that is organized

so that it can easily be accessed, managed, and updated.
PHP (Hypertext Preprocessor) - is a server scripting

language, and a powerful tool for making dynamic and
interactive Web pages.
Software – it is a computer instructions or data that

anything can be stored electronically.
Tourist –a person who is traveling especially for pleasure.
Tourism - is travel for recreation, leisure, religious,

family or business purposes, usually for a limited
duration. In our proposed system, tourism is a major source
of income in Panay Island. And will affect the economy of
both the source and host countries, in some cases being of
vital importance.
YouTube- is a video sharing service that allows users to

watch videos posted by other users and upload videos of
their own.

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE
Travelling is all about experiences. They can happen in

terms of culture, people, places and food but most
importantly with one’s own self and this was all about the
different ways in which travelling can change you. Our
website will serve as a guide for traveler and also will
guide towards the best animated scenes out there.
Technology now a days are everywhere. Internet is an

important communication channel to promote tourism. With the
help of the Internet, there is an opportunity for all
operators in tourism industry to successfully promote and
sell services and products and to act in accordance with
desires and needs of modern consumers.
This chapter describes website which is similar to the

concepts of this capstone project.
Bohol Philippines “Gods Little Paradise”
Welcome to Bohol, the friendly heart of the Visayas and

one of the most attractive tourist destinations in the
Philippines. This website has different travel category that
you need to explore and experience in Bohol. The website
also gives ideas to traveler about the how beautiful the
place of Bicol is. The website has a photo gallery, beaches,
food, hotel and resorts and historical sites.
Like in our project, Loray Trip to Panay; an

interactive website, we intended to create a website similar

to this website that helps to promote a tourist spot, foods,

places, language and transportation. These publish website
gives to proponents an idea on how to make an interactive
website.
City of Fun and Adventure; Visit Legazpi
This website is the Gateway to Bicol's Many Wonders and

the Regional Administrative Center of Region V. The website
is composed of a category like places to go wherein you can
witness the different popular places of Legazpi City.
This website has a huge relative to our website Loray Trip
to Panay because of its different category of about what are
the best in Legazpi city.
This is one of our related literatures since our

category is similar to what they have in the content of the
website like Places to go, things to do, phrases and
transportation.

It is a destination guide about travel and socially

relevant developments in Iloilo and Western Visayas Region
in the Philippines.
Their mission is to inform and inspire people about the

multifaceted potentials of Iloilo and the rest of the
region. They also aim to fill the need for the promotion of

The proposed system has an idea from the related

website. The proposed system also shows the gallery of

proposed project will also have things to do which are

TECHNICAL BACKGROUND

There is no doubt that in today’s world, technology is

an important part of our lives and has a huge impact on the
way we communicate, live and work. In developing a system,
the technology to be used is one of the most important parts
because the functions and the usability of the system depend
on it.
It is also very important and helpful because nowadays

the technology to be used in a system is depending on what
kind of system, and who will use the system.
The proposed project is unique, fun and interactive it

is just because the proponents’ teamwork and hardships
accumulate all the ideas. The proponents have come up with
this interactive website with animations to promote the
Panay Island and also to give an entertainment on tourist.
The proposed system will have great benefits to users

wherein there is no hustle moment to reach the Region VI
Tourism Information Center for the information desired. In
able to develop the proposed system the proponents will use
the different nature of technology that these days are most
likely to use.
TECHNICAL FEASIBILITY
These days, technology is continuing being popular in

every invention. That is why today’s technology is a key

towards success of economic development and to ensure a

better future. This is the technical feasibility that the
researches need to recognize. The word technical feasibility
is a part of determining resources has to do with assessing
technical feasibility. It considers the technical
requirements of the proposed project. The technical
requirements are then compared to the technical capability
of the organization.
The systems project is considered technically feasible

if the internal technical capability is sufficient to
support the project requirements.
The analyst of the project must find out whether
current technical resources can be upgraded or added to in a
manner that fulfills the request under consideration. This
is where the expertise of system analysts is beneficial,
since using their own experience and their contact with
vendors they will be able to answer the question of
technical feasibility.

Currently, the technical resources such as the

hardware should be evaluated first whether it needs an

PLANNING. This is the process in which decisions are made

by the proponents in making a project and also to plan on
how the proponents will meet the objectives.
DATA GATHERING. This is the process in which the proponents

analyze the problem that is need a solution to apply to.
PROJECT DESIGN. This is the part where the Proponents come
up with the design for our system, on how it would be
visualize as a website.
SYSTEM PROGRAMMING. This is the process of starting doing

the codes.
SYSTEM TESTING. This is where the system needs to be tested

and ready to be modified.
DEPLOYMENT OF THE SYSTEM. This is the stage wherein the
Proponents upload and deploy the website to the web hosting
and made available for the online users.
MAINTENANCE. This part of the study we are just maintaining
the website and checking from time to time if there are bugs
that needs to be fixed and apply some additional updates
available.

In capstone project System Analysis refers to the
process of studying company situation wherein the bits of
tangible information should understand and processed. These
bits of information are compiled in the form of documents
and visual diagrams for Programmers to comprehend and
follow.
It is the part of the methods used was the analysis
of system needs. The researchers looked for appropriate
software that needed in designing the system.
The analysis also covers the designing of recommend
system. In this stage, the researchers made use of all the
information gathered from the resources.

THE PROPOSED SYSTEM
Features of the Proposed System
The system Loray’s Trip to Panay; An Interactive

Website for Island of Panay was developed for the promotion
of tourism in the entire Island. This will help the tourism
to promote the well-known tourist attractions. It will help
the user to get in touch with any places in Panay Island by
the help of the developed system.
This will also help the user to search the attractions

and its places in Panay Island by way of the information
provided by the system.
The system is designed as a web-based wherein both

local and foreign tourist can access this website. This
website is viewable to all who wants to travel or to explore
the one of the best destinations in Panay Island.
The system is also having animated scenes that uploaded

from You Tube and images of tourist spots in Panay Island.
The system is connecting to Facebook page which is to help
the user easily.
This system is also designed with a database in which

an allowed user to update data and information of the
system.

CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION
This study aimed and developed the Loray’s Trip to
Panay; An Interactive Website for Panay Island. This will
help both local and foreign tourist that want to visit in
Panay Island. The system likely to yield many good results.
The system has useful features such as search bar which is
the user may able to search the tourist destinations and the
system provide the Google maps according to its category.
The proponents conclude that the system met the requirements
needed of the user since the system is web-based.
The system is viewable by both local and foreign
tourist. The purpose of these is to platform the interface
and how the user interact the website. The general
objectives of these proposed system is to promote an
developed the interactive website.
The functionalities to user or tourist meet the user
desires according to the standards and also the needs of the
user.
CONCLUSION

After a thorough analysis and better understanding of
the propose website, the proponents concluded the following.
 The researcher concluded that the features of the system
that are very important are as follows: user-friendly,
web-based, and search capacity.
 It is further concluded that that the proposed system is
more accurate and efficient to the user. It is also
authorized to the person only can update and edit the
system.
RECOMMENDATION
It is further recommended that the Loray’s Trip to Panay
be implemented for promoting Panay Island.
 The researchers recommend that the future developers
could also customize the finish system that can be
viewable to mobile phone.
 The researchers also suggest that the user must use
internet connection to access the system.
