The Framework of the Body
The skeleton, like the body it supports, has three principal parts, the head ,the
Trunk and the limbs. The bones of the head are joined together to form the skull. In the
trunk or middle section body frameworkare the backbone or spinal column, the ribs and the
breastbone. The bones of the arms and the legs for the limbs. The limbs have bones of different
lengths and sizes.
The skeleton or framework serves us in several ways.First,it helps to give form
and shape to the body.Second,it provides a place for muscles to be fastened so that by the use of
muscles and bones together,we can hold ourselves upright or erect and move about.Third, the
bones are hard and help to protect delicate parts of the body such as the brain, the eyes and the
ears.
