School Goals

West Deptford High School
Gloucester County
Core Beliefs

- Absences: This school believes that absences impact a students ability to

succeed in school. So being absent is not something they are okay with.

- Violence: West Deptford High School thinks that disciplining students after
something bad has been done is necessary for a positive change in the
community and school.

- School Pride: This school's takes lots of pride and spreads the statement
of taking pride in the school. It is shown through their sports
achievements/events and through academic achievements/clubs.

- Level of Education: Most teachers are hired with at least a Bachelor’s

degree. This shows that the school believes in having a bachelors is good
enough to teach there.
Analysis
Absences- By this chart it is clear that
West Deptford High School (Over 15)
has a low percentage of absences
compared to the younger students,
which is great. This may be from
student’s maturing and taking
responsibility being in a higher grade
level. But, this could also be from what
the school already enforces with the
students to make sure absences are
taken seriously.
Analysis
Violence- Looking into the
chart, it states the
consequences/discipline
given to the students who
were involved in some sort
of violence. It is clear that
suspensions happened
often from 2018-2019. This
meaning many children
are punished for the things
they have done.
Analysis
Level of Education: The chart
shown explains clearly that many
teachers were hired with a
Bachelor's Degree. Some other
school might hire more teachers
with a Master’s Degree, but for
West Deptford High School, from
reading this chart, Bachelor’s is
there go-to.
Implementing these beliefs

- A way to implement less students being absent is incorporating discipline. If

students continue being absent with no consequences, it will continue and
affect their education.
- The best way to implement a good change in the community of West Deptford
and within the schools is to make sure consequences are given to students
who deserve it. Putting students in line and making them learn from their
mistakes is the best way to enforce this belief.
- Implementing a Bachelor’s Degree level of education from teachers is by
simply making sure each teacher at least has a bachelor’s degree. And
clearly, it is okay to hire teachers with a higher level of education.
Jefferson’s Beliefs

Jefferson believed in developing local leadership and that students are chosen
based on ability to move forward. This being said, it is obvious from the data
that West Deptford High School demonstrates some of Jefferson’s beliefs.

West Deptford HS does not allow students to move onto the next grade if the
students missed too many days of school. This demonstrates being chosen to
move forward, clearly those students are not ready for the next level of learning.

West Deptford wants local leadership, and violence would not show if a student
is developing local leadership, resulting in consequences to change their
actions. So after looking at West Deptfords information, it is showing that they
follow Jeffersons Beliefs in their own way.

Analysis

Graduation Rates: Since after 2017, the data above shows that school-wide targets for graduation rates has
not been met. In 2017, the target was met with a school-wide percentage rate of 95.7%, but notably,
economically disadvantaged students and students with disabilities did not reach their target percentage in
either 2017 or 2018. Another interesting trend of a decrease in graduation rates specifically resides in the
year of 2018, which could help identify a temporary influence that caused a dip in graduation rates.
Analysis
Chronic Absenteeism:

- It is easily seen that there is an overwhelming amount

of students that are absent 6 or more days
throughout the year
- The percentages of chronic absenteeism for African
Americans and economically disadvantaged students
did not meet the state average

Violence:

- The percentage of students being disciplined is very

high
- Number of incidents pertaining to violence, weapons,
bullying, etc. were also extremely high
