In this discussion assignment this week, I want to share my ideas about the “The Devoted
Friend” tale because this tale leaves me many deep thoughts about the truth of life. This tale’s
content tells a story between two friends Hans and Miller, two people with two characteristics
that show us to know what a devoted friend.

You will then say if you liked the story or not and why

At the moment I finished reading this tale, my feeling is disappointed. What a tale? Is this tale
for children? This tale has no happy ending. But after the second reading, I found that many
points the author gave in this tale have too interesting.

The first point, the definition of the devoted friend in Miller’s mind is just saying some beauty
words like “Real friends should have everything in common” (From The devoted friend tale). He
has cheated himself in taking advantage of Hans and his stinginess action by saying “for when
people are in trouble they should be left alone, and not be bothered by visitors. That at least is
my idea about friendship, and I am sure I am right. So I shall wait till the spring comes, and then
I shall pay him a visit, and he will be able to give me a large basket of primroses and that will
make him so happy.” (From the devoted friend tale). The story reflects the true real life, many
people nowadays live selfishly and cheating themselves by that thinking.

The second point, the definition of the devoted friend in Hans’s mind is opposite absolutely, he
is too kind, kind so stupid. He does everything for the thing that calls “a devoted friend”. He did
every request from his friend – Miller; and did not recognize he had been taken advantage that
led to his death. It also reflects the people that so kind and important point is he did not dare to
speak up his righteous thoughts because scare to make his friend sad. And this thinking just
hurt ourselves.

Based on to reason above, I make the lesson for myself is you need to choose the right friend to
play and in some cases, we must speak up our thinking if there are any things that harm
ourselves. Although this tale is for the children, I think it brings the life lesson for all of us.

In written assignment this week, I want to share my ideas about the topic “The important
points that let you succeed in studying online”.

There are many points in online studying that effect to your study. But in my opinion, there are
three most important points. The first point is discipline; because you no need to join in any
public class, you are free to learning everywhere, every time you want. It’s easy for your
learning but if you do not have good time-management and do not have a schedule for your
homework, you will be very easy missing its and this will terminate your will to continue your
studying.

The second point is the reference way of learning. Nowadays, it’s very easy to find the
information on the internet; but you need to choose the right ideas to avoid plagiarism; if not,
you might mistakenly think that it is your ideas and you will receive a bad evaluation.

The last point is communication; because we study online so that the communication between
each other is not so close as a study in a real class. But we need to communicate through the
communication platforms of the university, try to ask if you have anything not clear with the
instructor, the program adviser for getting the right answer. You also communicate with the
other fellow classmates to learn from them; this point will make you feel your studying online is
interested and you will have the will to continue.

In conclusion, learning online is not easy to follow, but if we have the right way of study; we
could make our studying become easy and interesting.

used Mind Mapping to select your Topic for the essay project you will work on throughout
the course. Let your mind go and explore what topic you want to write about for the next few

With pre-writing strategies, there are many ways we can use like “Brainstorming”, “Mind
mapping”, “Free writing” and “Outlining”; but “Mind mapping” is the best way that I usually use
it when I choose the topic for the essay. Firstly, I write all the main ideas that I can think they
belong to the topic. Second, in each main topic, I continue to think the sub-topic to make it
clearly, maybe the sub-topic has more than two branches; the ideas are to make the main topic
more detail. After writing down all my ideas, I will review all to make sure I do not miss any
point. After that, I have a script in detail for my essay, I will use the key ideas to do my essay.
