Reflection:

I feel like this documentary has a lot of interesting and useful information that I feel

should be more widely known. The huge thing that I took away from this documentary is that

early childhood education is extremely important. I never had truly realized how truly important

education at that time was. I also never truly realized how active babies and young children’s

minds are. I feel that this video was really an eye opener for me personally.

The big thing that this documentary did for me personally was to show me interesting and

very useful things that maybe don’t help me immediately but will help me later in the future.

Another huge takeaway for me from this documentary was helping provide information that will

be useful to me later in life when I (hopefully) have kids. It shows that I must be attentive to their

needs, and that I will need to make sure that I do my job as a teacher for my kid. Also, it makes

me think that I need to make sure that my kid gets a good early education in school. So that it can

build a strong foundation so that I set my kid up to succeed later in their life.

The last thing that this showed me is how truly important parenting actually is. It makes

me think about how certain kids don’t get those early experiences from their parents, because

maybe their parents have to take multiple jobs or worse because of neglect. It is sad for me

personally to think that some kids start behind the 8-ball because of factors that they control like

parent interaction. It really makes me think about how as a future educator how I can help those

kids succeed. Another off note and an interesting fact that this video shared was the finding that

intelligence isn’t solely linked to SES (socioeconomic status). I found this to be supremely

interesting because it helped to make a connection to a previous assignment, I had in PSYCH

160 last year. That assignment being about the controversial book written by Charles Murray.
The video also said that it isn’t based in genetics either, but it was just interesting/hopeful for me

to hear that even kids in low SES brackets can succeed.
