1. Describe each of the Three Ages of the Ancient Age based on tool development and societal
characteristics
a. Stone Age
- Based on the development of their tools in the Stone Age, almost all of their weapons
were made of bone, stones and wood. Specifically they used flint; a type of stones were
used to create their fire. They also use different structures of bones that came from the
animals they hunt. It is much more deadly because they sharpen the bones based on
their different uses. Some of their tools are used for digging, skinning, cutting , fishing,
and sewing.
- The society in the Stone Age rooting their foods from the large and dangerous animals.
Also the fur of an animal serves as their clothing. Caves are the most common shelter of
these small bands. Before the end of this age, they learn how to take care of their farms
pertaining to agricultural related activities.
b. Bronze Age
- Based on the name of this age, the weapons that individuals used back then were made
of bronze and copper. In order to achieve the proper shaping for their weapons they
melt them; specifically called smelting which was discovered by Sumerians and
Mesopotamia. Almost all of their stone tools were replaced by bronze weapons.
- The society that lives and survives this Bronze Age learned how to mix properly the
bronze and copper. But by that means, no one is able to identify how the first bronze
was discovered. The bronze swords and helmets were really popular in this age not until
the Iron was introduced.
c. Iron Age
- During this age, people developed and formed their tools and weapons made from steel
and iron. Since they discover that iron is much tougher than bronze, they continue to
build their tools and weapons from iron, although iron requires much more heat or
melting point than bronze. But still those tools they developed continually have the
same uses just like before.
- Because of a shortage of copper and bronze, the society in this era caused the people to
experiment with more items and tools that eventually developed from iron. Also most
people prefer to settle in small villages with enough tools for their everyday living.
2. Differentiate Scientific Revolution from Industrial Revolution.
- In the Scientific Revolution, it began when Copernicus proposed that Earth revolves around the
Sun, and not the other way around. Because of this principle, people who live in this revolution,
started to believe in scientific experiments such as different laws; Law of Planetary Motion
(Kepler) and also Law of Motion (Newton) rather than believing in existing knowledge. While
during the Industrial Revolution, machineries were invented and developed to make a rapid
change in the growth of an economy. Since the Scientific Revolution existed, the development
for industry is much easier. Both revolutions contributed a massive knowledge for the everyday
living of an individual, but the only difference between them is that “experiments” helped
establish the Scientific Revolution while both “Science and Technology” supports the Industrial
Revolution.
3. Enumerate at least 2 advancements in science and technology during the following periods in history.
a. Middle Ages
➔ Printing Press
➔ Creation of Mechanical clocks
b. Scientific Revolution
➔ Telescope
➔ Concave Lens
c. Industrial Revolutions
➔ Typewriter
➔ Dynamite
d. 18th to 19th Century
➔ Telegraph
➔ Telephone
4. Give 3 technological advancements during the present time and describe how each of these
contributes to societal development.
1. Mobile Phones
- Due to the easy and quick access of mobile phones, almost everybody has their
own cell phones pertaining to that it is now a necessity for us. One of the most
common contributions of phones in our daily lives is faster communication.
With the help of specific applications, receiving and sending messages is
obviously much easier and no hussle.
2. The Internet
- Connecting the mobile phones with the internet makes our daily routine much
enjoyable and informative, since the internet is much like a large library that
helps you obtain a different variety of information and entertainment. Also its
ability to interconnect with different devices such as computers and smart
televisions.
3. Printer
- The 3rd most overused by students is Printer. Really with this hardware, printing
out documents and photos is very convenient, that makes the life of every
individual to pass their requirements. Aside from printing out a material,
printers can be able to scan, fax and make copies.
