Group Conference Notes
● General Takeaways
○ Question for us: Is this a video we want to watch?
○ Project has really good idea and purpose → need to make a stronger and clearer
argument that is supported by strong visual and audio choices
● Aim
○ What has GT done so far? What can GT members do to promote sustainability?
○ Good Audience (GT students, staff, and faculty) → use it purposefully, address
all groups or further appeal to one through arguments and ideas
○ Use the title to focus and direct our ideas and analysis to a common motive
○ Needs to be more defined and address specifically one point of view: don't sit on
the middle of the fence → there is more to be done or praise past actions
● Structure
○ Clearly state the thesis and purpose at the beginning and restate multiple times
through the arguments and finally in the conclusion
○ Evidently define introduction, arguments, solutions, and conclusion in the video
○ Potentially very compelling closing but it needs to be backed up with solutions
and actions students can do so they feel empowered in the previous sections
● Artifact (Video/Documentary)
○ Use other clips/audio from the Internet (take advantage of the video’s features)
○ Visuals should strictly relate to the information being presented in the voiceover
○ Incorporating audio from interviews is a good idea
● Arguments
○ Arguments need to be backed by concrete evidence
○ The scope of actions that we advocate for could be individual, or on a schoolwide
level
○ Propose specific solutions that will help Tech reduce its footprint, and make
specific criticisms of past/current actions taken by Tech
○ Good comparisons between GT and other institutions may be useful and
impactful (Emory is an excellent option because both schools have similar
political, social, economic, environmental contexts)
○ Be mindful with the use of interviews: why are they in the video? Do they distract
from the main topic? Do they fit the argument and provide pertinent information?
○ Reduce or eliminate COVID-19 section (doesn’t fit very well our aim)
