MODULE IN BUSINESS MATH

First Quarter/ Week 1/ Day 4 &5

CONVERSION OF DECIMALS TO FRACTIONS AND PERCENT FORMS

INTRODUCTION:

Assalamualaikom student. In this module you will study and learn to express decimals to
fractions and percent forms.

OBJECTIVE: At the end of the module, you will learn to express decimals to fractions and
percent forms.

INSTRUCTION FOR LEARNERS

Please Read

Learner you need to answer first the Pre-Test before going to other activities. Do the
activities in order as they appear in this module. Read the directions for each activity and
answer them in your worksheet.

PRE-TEST
Change the following decimals to fraction.
a) 0.25 b) 0.50 c) 0.33 d) 0.75

LEARNING ACTIVITIES

TRY TO DISCOVER!

FRACTION – is one or more of the equal parts into which a whole is divided (or simply a
ratio of two numbers). There are two parts of fraction, the numerator and the denominator
with a horizontal or slanting line between the two numbers.

PERCENT – is an expression indicating the number of parts taken from a hundred. Literally,
“per cent” means by, or, on the hundred. Instead of saying “hundredths” we often use the
4
term per cent. For example or 0.04 may be written as 4%.
100

DECIMAL - is a way of writing numbers where each digit represents the different powers of
10. It also needs a decimal point (dot) to separate the integral and fractional parts of a
number.

In your own words, what would be the mathematical procedures in conversion of decimal to
fraction forms and per cent forms?

LEARNING SUMMARY:

 To reduce a decimal to a common fraction, we write the given decimal number

regarding the decimal point as the numerator of a common fraction with a denominator
in the powers of 10 of the given decimal.
 To reduce a common fraction to a decimal, we divide the numerator by the
denominator.
 To change a per cent to a decimal, we move the decimal point two places to the left and
drop the per cent sign. If the per cent is in fractional units, we change first the fraction to
decimal before moving the decimal point.
 To change a decimal to a per cent, we move the decimal point two places to the right
and add the per cent sign %.
