Lesson 1 - Trends and Responsibilities of a Science Teacher

1. How will you apply those trends and responsibilities to your teaching profession?
One of the trends I have learned from the video is the flipped classroom. It allows the students to study
at home through recorded videos and presentations and make assessments in the physical classroom
administered by the teacher. Though it requires the initiative of the students and guidance of the
parents for it to be able to meet the learning expectations. So as a future teacher, I can apply this trend
in my teaching profession since it is becoming much easier to learn and teach in this way. It is also stated
in the responsibilities that teachers should use or take advantage of the state-of-the-art teaching tools
to make teaching more efficient.
2. Foremost among the responsibilities is keeping the environment clean and safe for the family and
the community. Will you keep your future learners aware of the said
responsibility? How will you check if such is well understood and apply it in their daily
living?
I think one of many ways to fulfill this responsibility to keep the environment clean and safe is through
education. It must start of course in our home, parents should teach their children about this matter and
teachers also in the classroom. It should be a teacher-parent tandem in educating future learners on the
said responsibility. An activity can be made wherein students can apply what they have learned like tree
planting, street sweeping, gardening, and many more. By doing this, they will know the value of the said
responsibility.
3. Our forest cover has deteriorated fast due to wanton destruction by mindless loggers.
State your personal reaction to this case.
In my opinion, it is not only the illegal loggers that should be blamed why our forest has deteriorated. It
should be all of us. We may not do harmful actions to our forest but we also do not do good for it. Some
of us irresponsibly make actions and decisions that may cause the destruction of the forest. Lack of
power from the government to fully stop these mindful loggers and implement laws that will help
conserve it. That is also a way of becoming like mindless loggers. We are not loggers but what makes us
different from them if we can't be responsible for simple actions? So, as a student, future educator, and
citizen we must be
mindful of our actions to stop this and save the forest and continue to inculcate this to the next
generation.
Lesson 2: Addressing the Need for a Continuing Teacher Education
1. The sincere desire to grow, both in personal as well as professional qualifications is an important
motivation among our science teachers. How are you addressing this need?
As for me, to address this need to improve one's expertise or skills as a science teacher, the best way
is to explore your limits, your wants and needs in your skills, and the things you need to develop in order
for us to grow. After we assess ourselves, we now choose the best, effective, suitable and affordable
way for us to develop our skill as a science teacher. One of this is by undertaking seminars/workshops,
researching using the best available resources, and by observing and adapting your colleague's ways of
teaching so that you can apply it and use as your teaching method. For me, the easiest is through self-
initiated steps though you have to strive harder to get what you want to achieve. For now, it is the
accessible way to develop my skill as a future science teacher.

2. Do you prefer to undertake updating sessions by way of research individually or in groups? Why?
I prefer to undertake research with groups because it will allow us not only to cooperate but also
learn from each other members of the group. It also minimize the task as it was divided equally to the
group.
3. Make a science faculty development program that can be undertaken by the school?

TEACHERS OPPORTUNITIES TO TEACHERS OUTCOMES STUDENT OUTCOMES

 Capable to adopt instruction to  More knowledge acquired
 Capacity to adapt the different needs of learning  Enjoyed the different and
instruction using different approaches most efficient way of
 Technological  Effective pedagogical practice teaching and learning

 Instructional practice  Can apply different using different strategies
and strategy instructional practices and and approaches in
strategies for efficient students teaching
learning

This diagram shows the concept of the faculty development program. This illustrates the opportunities
of the teachers to take like capacity to adapt instruction to meet the expected outcomes. After the
outcome is met, teachers are now going to apply thiese learning to their teaching methodologies so that
learning and teaching is achieved. So this is a program wherein both teachers and students will benefit. I
use this diagram to show the continuity and constant Learning rather than a cycle which repeats all the
process endlessly.

Lesson 3: The Teacher and New Information Technologies

1. Discuss briefly the impacts of information technologies in the education.
The advent of information technologies brought a big change in system of teaching and learning.
Nowadays, students needed not to leave the classroom to do research because and teachers enjoyed a
better and easier way of teaching, from being the sole source of learning to promoter of interactive
learning using the new platform. All in all, information technologies make teaching and learning much
easier than ever.
2. Do you take advantage of the advent of information and communication technology in your
teaching methodologies? Plot your actions.
Yes, of course. If I'll be teaching, let's say Science in the intermediate grades, I'll definitely take
advantage of the advent of ICT in my teaching methodologies. ICT integration could be a helpful and
effective way of teaching especially science. For me it is a two way learning, they learn about the subject
and also they learn how to use technology effectively.
