What are the steps in computing the variance and the standard deviation of a probability
distribution of a random variable? How it is similar to the procedure in finding the variance and
standard deviation of a frequency distribution?
Compare the formulas for finding the variance and standard deviation of a frequency distribution
and that of a probability distribution.
I do find it similar. The difference is that in finding the variance and the standard
deviation in frequency distribution, we need to tally the given so that we can get
the frequency and the sample means so that we can get the answer, unlike in the
probability distribution, all we need to find out is the mean and then we can
perform the specific steps.
What does the variance and standard deviation of a probability distribution tell us? How do you
interpret the variance and standard deviation of a probability distribution?
The variance and the closely related standard deviation are measures of how
spread out a distribution is. In short, they are measure of variability.
Which formula is easier to use in finding the variance and standard deviation of a probability
distribution?
In getting the mean, then you must subtract the mean to the given number of
something represent as x (x-µ), next is to square the deviation (x-µ) 2 , then for
you to get the variance, multiply the P(x) to the squared deviation like this
(X-μ)2.P(x). After getting the variance, get the standard deviation by using the
steps in probability distribution.

1. Roll a die 50 times. Construct a probability distribution and find the variance and standard
deviation. Compare the result with the theoretical results.
