A PICTO – NARRATIVE REPORT ON SCIENCE MONTH

CELEBRATION

Science is a systematic study of anything that can be examined, tested, and

verified. The word science is derived from the Latin word scire, meaning “to know.”
From its early beginnings, science has developed into one of the greatest and most
influential fields of human endeavor. Today different branches of science investigate
almost everything that can be observed or detected, and science as a whole shapes the
way we understand the universe, our planet, ourselves, and other living things.
As defined by Dr. Rosalyn Yalon, a Nobel Laureate in Medicine, science is….
“…. not simply a collection of facts. It is a discipline of thinking
about rational solutions to problems after establishing the basic facts derived
from observations. It is hypothesizing from what is known to what might be and
then attempting to test the hypothesis….logical thinking must come first; facts
can come later
For a large part of recorded history, science had little bearing on people's
everyday lives. Scientific knowledge was gathered for its own sake, and it had few
practical applications. However, with the dawn of the Industrial Revolution in the 18 th
century, this rapidly changed. Today, science has a profound effect on the way we live,
largely through technology—the use of scientific knowledge for practical purposes.

Since Science is essential, the month of October marks the Science Month
Celebration in the Department of Education with this year ̓s theme: “Kilos Kabataan:
Kalikasan Para sa Kinabukasan”. In this light, Dr. Abelardo G. Campani - District
Supervisor of San Julian District, mandated that all schools in the district must have
their respective school – based celebration and to conduct the suggested activities
relative to these event.

In connection with the said activity, Campidhan Elementary School had a

cleanup drive in the coastal area of the Barangay where the school is situated. The
pupils collected the plastic debris that is thrown in the shorelines wherein it is an
eyesore to the local tourist and threaten marine life. Furthermore, the school also joined
the culminating activity that was held in San Isidro Elementary School.
