a Cutting tool life is usually extremely short because of the high strength and
abrasiveness of carbon fibers, additionally delamination and burring easily occurs
during cutting, thus it is effective to use a tool that applies coating with high wear
resistance.
The MCS drills and the S-TAW drills (non-stocked insert) reduce burrs and delamination
due to a CVD diamond coating technology in combination with an optimized tool

Additionally, the convex cutting edge allows good chip removal, resulting in
high speed and high efficiency machining.

VFX Series
(TOOLS NEWS B182A)
Key Point on Machining
a When rough machining titanium alloys, chipping and abnormal damage of
the cutting edge easily occurs if low rigidity tools are used. Tools with high
rigidity and low cutting resistance are therefore recommended.
The VFX series has a highly rigid design including tangentially mounted

provides a soft cutting action.

Key Point on Machining
a Chipping and fracturing that can occur during high speed machining of
titanium are normally caused by variations in the cutting resistance as the

a Adhesions and concentration of heat in the cutting edges are common
during the milling of titanium alloys due to the low thermal conductivity. An
efficient lowering of the heat and good chip evacuation are crucial. The
Coolstar series with its multi coolant holes and unique flute design offers
both optimum cooling effect and effective chip removal. It furthermore
provides stable machining of difficult-to-cut materials and applications.

a Titanium-Aluminum alloys have low thermal conductivity causing the heat to
concentrate in the cutting edge. Scratches can also easily occur on the

VFX Series
(TOOLS NEWS B182G)
Key Point on Machining
a When rough machining titanium alloy, chipping and abnormal damage of the
cutting edge easily occurs if low rigidity tools are used. Using high rigidity
tools and low cutting resistance inserts are recommended. The VFX series
provides superior stability through its high rigidity design that includes
tangentially mounted inserts with V-shaped clamping face and convex curved
cutting edges.

Application Example
a
Over 7 times tool life is achieved in combination
with high-pressure internal coolant.

APX Series
(TOOLS NEWS B055A)

Key Point on Machining

a Abnormal damage of the cutting edge such as chipping and vibration can
occur easily when rough machining titanium alloy.
The APX series enables stable machining as it combines inserts with soft
cutting action, convex curved edges with highly rigid cutter bodies that
include internal coolant.

Application Example
a
Long tool life is achieved even in long reach
applications when combining screw in heads with
carbide shanks.

Key Point on Machining
a When profile machining titanium alloys, chipping and abnormal damage of
the cutting edge can occur as vibrations are easily generated.
The use of a tool which is designed for vibration control is effective.
The latest SMART MIRACLE vibration control ball nose end mills have
variable pitch and advanced designed radii to maximize the reduction of
vibrations.

(TOOLS NEWS B135G)

Key Point on Machining

a Titanium alloys have low thermal conductivity and it is therefore common to
get adhesions and concentration of heat in the cutting edge. Removing heat
from the cutting edge and smooth discharge of chips are key. The MNS drills
features unique coolant holes and optimized groove shape. The superior
cooling performance and chip evacuation provides stable
machining and long tool life.

Application Example
a
Achieved stable machining due to excellent cooling
performance and chip discharge performance.
