Procedure

Introduction Time

• Remind students that they must submit their choices for their Holocaust 20 minutes
books to Mme Chantal
• Introduce students to the concept of figurative language
• Go over different forms of figurative language detailed in the PowerPoint
o Hyperbole
o Allusion
o Alliteration
o Imagery
o Irony
o Metaphor
o Idiom
o Onomatopoeia
o Paradox
o Personification
o Simile
o Symbolism
Body Time

• Have the students take out their devices and prepare to do a Kahoot! 30 minutes
o The students will answer the questions asking for the definition of
different examples of figurative language
• Review the standards/expectations you have regarding the privilege of doing
a Kahoot!
o Students must ensure names and comments are appropriate
o If things get out of hand we will stop and they will complete
worksheets for the rest of the period and further Kahoots will
potentially be out of the question
• After the playing the Kahoot! Students will practice their figurative language
skills by working through the figurative language review package
Closure Time

• Students will continue to work on the review package until the end of the 5 minutes
period
• If students complete the review package, they can complete the figurative
language crossword search
