White Buffalo
A story of the Kingdom
Black Elk opened his eyes. The sun was shining; it was warm, Spring-like. He was
sitting against a tree, and a pleasant meadow was in front of him. He felt good.
Had he awakened from the “Long Sleep”? Was this the next world; the world of spirits?
The “Happy Hunting Ground”, as some called it? It certainly looked, though, like the
earth as he had known it.
He began to recall his immediate past. His tribe had been suffering from bitter cold,
lack of food, and no trace of game animals. He himself was old, perhaps 70 winters or
so; emaciated, sick, a burden, unable to contribute anything to the tribe. So, one
stormy, snowy night he left his tepee, struggled into the woods, sat down with his back
to a tree, and prepared to die by freezing. The shivering finally stopped; life was fading.
A last faint voice in his mind … “I am the morning star”. Then darkness.
And so he died.
-------
And now he was very much alive, and still sitting by a tree!
He looked around at all his pleasant surroundings. Finally, a movement caught his
attention. What was this? As he looked at the meadow carefully, he saw a form, an
animal -- it was a White Buffalo! Could it be “Tatanka Ska” [sacred to many native
peoples; a symbol of peace, abundance, and plenty]? Could the old legends be true --
a White Buffalo, who had then transformed into White Buffalo Maiden, and who showed
Black Elk’s ancient people where to find buffalo and deer and antelope, and thus save
them from starvation?
There was no question now; the buffalo was looking at him, and moving directly towards
him. Black Elk stood up, trembling with excitement, not knowing what to expect. About
an arrow-shot away, the buffalo stopped -- and then slowly transformed into White
Buffalo Maiden! So, the old legends were true! And Black Elk was favored with such a
visit!
“Black Elk”, said the maiden. “Do you know who I am?”
“So, you know of me, and trust me?”, she queried again.
2
“Absolutely. You are of the spirit world, and beloved by many tribes”.
She began, “The old legends of the White Buffalo and White Buffalo Maiden, were
never true -- they were only man-made stories. However, I have come from the Great
Spirit, the Eternal, in this form and manner so you would feel more comfortable and trust
me. I am not a god, but simply a servant of the Eternal, the Most High God. You were
dead for a long time, and now have been returned to life on earth by the Son of the
Eternal, the Lord Christ -- the ‘Morning Star’. I have come to tell you about this new life,
and help you adjust to this new arrangement. You have a new body; look at your arms
and legs -- good skin and strong muscles -- no longer emaciated. All things are being
made new. Even your wife, Moonfire, who died in child-birth years before you died, was
returned to life ten days ago, and is now waiting in the village, expecting you today”.
“Moonfire! My lovely wife that I lost all too soon? I paid a high price of ten horses to her
father to have her in marriage. The heartache, the pain I had when she left this life!
Can it really be true?”
“Yes, she is really returned to life, and your son Blue Duck is also alive again”.
Black Elk, startled, said “Moonfire gave birth to a boy as she died. I named him Blue
Duck, and my extended family helped to raise him. He became quite a strong,
handsome warrior. But on a raiding party, he was killed by the Kiowa; how senseless,
for just a few horses! My heart was wrenched from me, almost as much as when
Moonfire died. Is it really true; we will be re-united again?”
“Indeed. Perhaps we should begin on our way. The village is not far from here”.
And so, they walked and talked, until the village could be seen clearly. Then they
stopped.
The woman spoke, “My heavenly name is known only in the spirit world, but I call myself
Sarah when on earth. You can remember me, and speak to me at any time, by that
name. Look! Moonfire has seen us, and is coming this way. I will leave you now. A
blessed life awaits you, if you will accept it on the terms of the Most High God.
Remember the ‘Morning Star’! Wolakhota, Shalom.” And Sarah vanished.
Moonfire and Black Elk moved towards each other slowly, then running, until together,
embracing. Many tears, but all tears of joy. Words would not come. How good to be
together again. Unspoken praise and thanks rose to the Great Spirit, the Eternal.
Moonfire spoke first. “My husband, the ‘Days That Were’ are gone forever. In this new
life there is no more war, no more death, no more pain or sorrow. All that is in the past,
3
never to return. The Lord Christ, the “Morning Star”, has made this possible by his own
sacrifice. You will learn more, much more, in the days ahead.”
“Incredible, but it sounds wonderful. But Blue Duck, where is our son, Blue Duck?”
asked Black Elk.
“He is in the larger, permanent settlement located in a valley beyond those two distant
ridges you see [as she pointed]. He is preparing a place for us to live. This small
village of tepees in front of us is only a temporary place, somewhat similar to the ‘Days
That Were’, to help newly-alive Native peoples get adjusted to their new life; eventually,
they go to the larger settlement, as we will. Who was that person you were talking to,
that suddenly disappeared?”
Black Elk replied, “I was talking to a person I thought was White Buffalo Maiden, but she
is actually Sarah, a servant of the Eternal from the spirit world. She told me something
about the Lord Christ being the Great Chief of the world. Where is He?”
Moonfire said, “The center of His power is in Israel, a land toward the sun-rising, far
beyond the Great Waters, but His rule extends over the entire earth. He is a benevolent
Chief, and has many servants [great and small] who gladly do his bidding. All human
beings who have ever lived -- and there are more than you could ever imagine -- are
gradually being returned to life. Soon the earth, including this area, will be filled with
people -- all kinds, all colors, all personalities -- men, women, and children. These will
have to accept the Lord Christ as savior, and become His dedicated followers -- and
you will have to do likewise -- if eternal life is to be granted by the Eternal, the Most High
God. But there is nothing to fear. The Most High God is described as ‘Love’, and His
Son is just like his Father. We have a worship service for them in two days, on the
Sabbath, the 7th day.
“The Eternal had faithful servants, mostly of Israel, long ages ago, who are now called
‘Ancients’ or ‘Fathers’. Returned to perfection of human life, each of them now watches
over a portion of the earth, instructing and guiding the people. The one over this area is
Daniel, a famous prophet of Israel. On Sabbath evenings, one or more of the ‘Fathers’
talks directly to us on a flat wall, called a ‘screen’ -- we see and hear them, but they are
actually far away. It is easier to experience it than to explain it!
“Two of the ordinary people of Israel, a man and a woman, are in the village now. They
teach an hour or so every morning, and every afternoon -- telling us about the ‘Days
That Were’, the new life we have now and what is required of us, and about the future.
So little did we know. We once thought there were spirits in animals, water, lightning,
and wind; that is not so, but the truth is so much better.
“But, enough for now. Let us go into the village and meet the people. It is about time
for our meal; afterwards, we can relax in our tepee, and begin our new life together.”
===============
This is the kind of incident that will be common in the Millennial Age. Christians who
have loved and served the Lord Jesus in full consecration of life to His service will
experience the change to heavenly conditions of which Paul speaks in 1 Cor. 15, and so
"reign with Christ a thousand years" (Rev. 20.4). All others of humanity will enjoy the
blessings of the Kingdom on Earth, during which the Father makes His final plea for
repentance and allegiance. It is to that new world the dead will return, in the
resurrection, restored to conscious life by the power of God, in the new bodies which He
gives to them "as it has pleased him."
