Treatment

The Mind
The Mind is an appealing title because it doesn’t give many things away about the film. It will
be surprising to the audience about what the film is about because of the surprising name of
the title and I believe this is why people will be interested in watching it.

Synopsis
At the beginning of the film there will be the introduction of the two brothers lying in their bed
before they are going to sleep, they both will be chatting whilst their cell door is open but
then we will hear a loud bell that indicates that the doors are closing. One of them gets up in
a hurry and silently moves the mirror from the wall and behind it is a gaping hole. One is on
lookout and the other steps up into the hole and heads towards the backstreets of the
prison. Whilst he is on lookout, there is a shout of his name and it's another prisoner who is
one of his enemies. He tries winding him up before someone else gets involved who is the
brothers friend. They are all arguing with each until the guard walks past and smashes his
hand against the cell gate. He tries to find his way around the prison and we see that he has
made a little path on where to follow so he doesn’t get lost. We then see the progression he
has made in the prison, as there is an underground tunnel that he has found that used to be
used as a fire exit tunnel. He has walked down it before but still doesnt know if this will be
the best way of getting out of here but it's his only option. He carries on walking down the
tunnel and finds a way out but he still doesn’t if they will make it out with the whole group.

Then it will be the next day and the brothers will gather their friends and tell them the news
that they have found a place to escape. They start to plan how they are escaping from the
prison and see if any contacts from the outside can help them. They all separate and try to
find different solutions. Whilst this is happening they are approached by their enemies in the
prison and they come to them about how they have been acting lately. They tell them that
they are going to keep an eye on them because they will find out what they are doing. This
brings panic and they try and make a solution to injure the main man of their group, so he
gets off their back. They have found a transport that can pick them up from down the road
from the prison and can drive them to an undercover airport where they will get on a plane.
The guy who has sorted isn't trustworthy, as he has a bad history with one the guards and
could easily end up in the private cell.

The brothers have been doing work for the escape and have located down the fire tunnel
where it comes out. It comes out a mile from the prison, so they will have to make sure that
they have a transport waiting for them.

There is then a time lapse of the days being past in the prison. Then it is finally the night of
the escape. The group have all got their stuff together and are praying that this will work. It's
the last break before they escape and one of the members of the group comes over with
blood on his hands. He has beaten up one of the people in their enemy group, as he
guessed what was going on. They all realised that this break needs to end asap before the
guards find out. Just before the last break ends one by one they all enter the escape hole in
the brothers' cell. They all move down the exit tunnel and none of them have heard any
alarms. They all climb out of the tunnel but have to climb a wall until they are free. One by
one they climb over the wall until they hear a loud siren go off and it is code red from the
prison. From the distance they can see the lights shine brightly and can hear the dogs
barking already. All of the group get over the wall except one of the brothers he stops and
runs back into the prison apologising to his brother. They don't have enough time to go back
for him and they all jump into the car.

Target Audience
The target audience is for people aged 18-30 as the storyline throughout the series is
complex because there is more than one storyline and they have a new mission each
episode that they have to complete. It is published for both boys and girls but I would say
there is a more dominant male audience that watch it as there is a lot of violence throughout.
It has a larger audience for males because where it is filmed is in an all male prison and
there isn't a large use of women. All of the guards in the prison are males and there are
scenes in the series that are quite disturbing. The lifestyle of the audience would probably be
who are into action films and who are trendy, as Prison break is a very popular series. I
believe that this lifestyle would fit my audience because Prison Break is a big series that has
been published on platforms such as Netflix so this means that a large audience have
watched this series. The social economic group for Prison break will be DE because there
will be students who aren't employed or have a part time job so they won’t have a large
income.

The target audience enjoy watching films in their spare time because they like to relax and
use films as an element of entertainment. They like films that are action packed and
moments that will get them off their seat. They don’t like films that are romantic so they try to
avoid these films. This is why my film is perfect for this audience because it doesn't have any
romance in the film and throughout the film it is action packed. They don’t like films such as
365 days, The shape of water and The star is born. They don't like the storyline of the films
because they have elements of the storyline that are too predictable. However, they enjoy
action films like Avengers, Maze Runner and Escape. These are all films that are action
packed and people are working as a team.

Overall, I believe that this target audience that I have chosen works for the idea that I am
choosing because they may have already watched Prison Break and this film I will be
making will have the same action but just a different plot. It will still have the same element
of escaping from the prison but just in a different format.

Sammy Bimpson

Sammy is a 20 year old lad who lives in Culcheth, Warrington. He was born in Warrington
and now he lives at home with four of his family members he has a brother, a sister and his
Mum and Dad. His Dad works for a company called Arcadis and his Mum works as a food
tech teacher at the local high school. He’s in the E category of the spending profiles because
he’s a student and only works part time. He works in Tesco stacking the shelves he
normally works there three times a week when he can but it can be hard for him as he does
go to university in Salford so the drive away can be up to an hour with bad traffic. In
university he is studying Business. He is only in his first year and he lives there all week but
then comes back at the weekends and sometimes in the week he will come back when he is
working. One of Sammy's main hobbies is playing golf, as he likes to relax when he isn't
working or in university and golf allows him to socialise with his friends. He used to work in a
driving range so he used to practice there quite a lot. Sammy used to play football, he played
in defence, but when he started his a-levels he didn’t really play it as
much so now he just plays golf as he is a member at our local golf club.

Sammy likes to watch TV series on netflix and he is into series such as

Breaking bad, Prison break, Money heist and X files. He normally
watches these series whenever he gets free time, he enjoys them
because they are series that are always thrilling to watch and the
storylines are interesting. He enjoyed Prison Break because he liked the
plot twists through the series and never actually knowing if they would
escape the prison. As Sammy enjoys films like Lawless, 24 and Matrix
these are all films that are like Prison Break because of their action
packed content. He will enjoy the film I am creating because he will enjoy
the action packed content that my film has to offer. The different
storylines and variety of characters will appeal to Sammy because he
likes films like 24, and Lawless and these have a similar storyline.
Sammy often goes to the cinema whenever he sees a film that he likes
and likes to go to relax and have fun with his friends or family.

Tom Peskett

Tom Peskett is a 18 year old lad who lives in Culcheth, Warrington. He

was born in Warrington and now he lives at home with four of his family
members he has a brother, a sister and his Mum and Dad. He’s in the
E category of the spending profiles because he's a student and only
works part time. He works in a gym called Live Wire at the front desk
and he only works a few times a week because he is also studying his
first year at University. He has gone to Manchester University but is
staying at home. One of Tom’s favourite hobbies is playing football. He
plays for his local team and enjoys playing on a Saturday with his
friends. He also enjoys playing golf as he likes to play when he has
space in his timetable, he is a member at the local golf club. Also in his
spare time he likes to socialise with his friends at a weekend where he
usually goes to the local pub.

Tom likes to watch TV series on netflix or any other platform, he is into

series such as Prison Break, Money Heist and Suits. He normally
watches these series when he has had a long day at university and
once his work has been completed, he enjoys relaxing and watching
TV. He enjoyed Prison Break because each person had a storyline and
a reason why they wanted to leave, some were bad but some were for
the right reasons. I believe Tom will watch this series because he likes
action films and enjoys the thrills of Prison Break, so this film would suit
his preference. He enjoys watching films as well like Escape, The Crew
and Fast and Furious. These films are all about groups trying to take
someone down or about escaping from somewhere. The film that I am
creating will appeal to Tom because he will enjoy the concept of trying
to escape from a Prison and the different challenges the characters have to face to escape
the Prison.

Possible constraints/opportunities
You could add characters in the prison who are after the two brothers and are trying to make
it even harder for them to escape this would make the storyline more entertaining and will
bring more speculation on whether they will get out or not. However, I could be copyrighted
for the characters' names because I may not get permission so I might have to change the
names of some characters. I will get copyrighted for the characters' names because they are
owned by the company that made Prison Break and I won't be able to get permission by
them.I wouldn't be able to get permission from Prison break to use the names because they
will be asking for a large amount of money and as a small production I wouldn't be able to
afford it. Also, as I will be on a lower budget I will not be able to use some of the CGI used
but this shouldn’t affect the film massively. In Prison Break there isn't a large use of CGI so I
would probably be able to make the film look as good as the series. As we are filming in a
Prison the amount of time to film in the Prison may be short and the availability of the
location may not be free in the time I want to film. So I would have to change the time of the
year from the original plan but this shouldn't affect the production because it is mostly filmed
inside.

The film that I have created will work because I have used the basic plot of a very successful
TV series called Prison Break and made it into a film. So this will mean that a large number
of their audience will want to see a film that is based in a prison. The storyline will engage
my audience because they will watch each step of how they escape from the prison and
there is a large number of characters that each have a storyline and why they want to
escape from prison so badly. I will be able to get a range of actors but as I am on a low
budget i will only be allowed to use a small amount of my characters to be well known and
then the rest of my actors will be not as well known. Hopefully the well known actors will
bring their audience over to the film, so it will allow it to be more successful. It is realistic that
this film will work but the only problem is the location and as there aren't a lot of prisons that
aren’t shut down and still in good condition it will be hard to find a location. However, I have
found HM Prison Oxford where Mean Machine was filmed and hopefully it will allow our
production to be filmed here.

Key scenes
Beginning
At the beginning of the film we will be introduced to the main character who is in his prison
cell, this will set the scene to the audience of where the whole film will be filmed. Then we
will be introduced to his brother who is sharing a cell with him, they both have a look of one
who is quite innocent looking and the other who looks tough and hard faced. This shot will
be a two shot of the two brothers sitting in their bunks beds. We then see the work of what
they have done so far to escape from Prison, there will be an escape root in their cell that
they both have created. There will be pan movement towards the hole in the wall and there
will be dramatic music. This will be the most important part of the film because it gives the
audience a clear understanding of what the film is about. We will then get a view of the
Prison and it will show how dangerous the inmates in there and the different groups that
have their rivalries. The shots will change between each character who is in the film and
show how dangerous the prison is. There will be close ups of each character so the
audience gets a clear shot of what they look like. We will also be introduced to the different
guards that are in the Prison. For example, there will be guards that have a good friendship
with the two brothers and there are bad guards, who only care about punishing the inmates.
Both of the brothers are in jail for a crime that did not commit so that is why they are both
escaping, as they believe once they are out they have strong evidence that can clear their
names. The only issue for the brothers is that they don't have the contacts and facilities in
the Prison to do it on their own so they have scouted people who they need to try and get on
board.

Middle
Since they have been in the Prison they have created a group of friends that they want to
escape with but some of them have got the skills that they need for the team, but some of
them haven’t. There will be many shots of the group together talking about how they want to
escape from Prison and we will find more information about why they want to escape and
what their outside life is like. The groups of people they have created are all in prison
because the courts have let them down and have been sent to a Prison that is one of the
toughest in the world. Since they have been in the Prison because of some of their races,
backgrounds and issues with other people in the prison they have had time put on their
sentence. Their group have got a rival group in the prison that are looking for them dead but
have got suspicions about what the brothers are up to. There will be shots of the rival group
talking behind their back about how they believe they are up to something that will cause the
audience more tension. There is a rivalry between one of the members of the group and one
of the guards, as they both have had history before. However, this member of the group is
the person who is going to get them transported as far away from the prison as possible.

End
When the night of escaping arrives. They have their last break but their big news is that one
of the members has been involved in a fight but it's just about time before a guard finds out.
They are waiting for the call to go back to their cells and then the plan can go ahead. The
break is about to end and they all go through the opening in the brothers' cell but they need
to leave before the break finishes. There will be shots of the group running out of prison.
There will be close ups of the reaction of the brothers when they are trying to escape from
Prison. Also there will be crab camera movement to show that we are following them out of
Prison. When they get to nearly breaking out of the prison, the guards have been informed
that they are all missing from the cells but as they are all trying to climb across to the wall,
the sirens go off and the likeliness of them making it is slim. One of the brothers insists he
goes last because he has something to do to allow them to cross the wall, but as they all
cross he stands there and tells them all to leave. They all escape except one of the brothers,
as he walks back into the prison and tries to make it back to his cell. When one of the
brother's escapes from prison there will be a high angle shot of the brother running back into
the prison and dramatic music will be played throughout.

Time scale
The film will be produced in a time scale of 6 months because there aren't many locations
where I need to film at. The majority of the scenes will be filmed at the prison, so the time it
takes to film will be minimised. If the Prison is booked for a large amount of time, we will be
able to film the shots we want and the time scale will be done in a shorter amount of time.
But if the prison is only booked for a short amount of time and we have to book the prison for
2 months at a time it could take us longer to film because we would have to get different
slots at different times. The different seasons of the year shouldn't affect the time scale of
my film because the majority of the scenes will be filmed inside and the only time they are
outside and need lighting will be when they are in the yard.

Budget
I am basing my budget from an English movie called Mean Machine. The budget for Mean
Machine was estimated at £2.5 million. This film links with Prison break because it is an
action film and is set in a Prison, so I will need to rent similar locations at similar prices. The
reason I believe this is because the company will be taking a risk on the production, as it
was a successful series but as a film with the series being so long it could cut parts of the
storylines that the audience find interesting. I will spend the budget on a few well known
actors from the UK but I will not be spending money on CGI because that will be too big of a
production. The location where my film will take place will be at HM Oxford Prison it will take
place here because the film Mean machine was filmed here. This is a film that has a big
English production behind it, so using this location will allow me to get the shots that I have
planned in my storyboard.
Characters
Luka Gates
Luka is the brains of the escape and he is trying to get brother out of the prison. He looks
innocent and is charming to everyone. This character is suitable for my film because one of
the characters has to go against a stereotypical male who is in jail. He will
look quite innocent because he will be the brains of the whole plan and he
will be the person who the whole group can rely on to get them out of
trouble.
Brock Gates
Brock is the danger man out of the brothers. He is built with a lot of muscle
and is very stubborn. This character is suitable for my film because he is a
stereotypical thug who is in prison but he is very loyal to his brother and his
friends.The audience will be attracted to him because of his loyalty to his brother
and they both always have each other’s backs.
Cole
Cole is one of the brothers' friends and he is quite old compared to the rest of the
prisoners and has been in prison for many years for a crime he didn't commit.
This character is suitable for my film because he is the one of the older people in
the prison who is friends with each person in the prison. He stays away from
trouble but when he heard the idea of escaping he didn't hesitate one bit. The
audience will be attracted to him because he is older so he is wiser and knows
everything about the prison.
Rodrigo
Rodrigo is one of the closest friends to the brothers. He got put in prison for fraud many
years ago but he still denies that it was ever him. This character is suitable for my film
because he is someone who is very close to both of the brothers. He came into the prison
around the same time as the brothers so they created a good friendship. The audience will
find him interesting because he is in prison for robbing a small shop and he was given a
large amount of time for it so they will feel sorry for him.
Lucky
Lucky is the youngest out of the group and has only been in prison once. He
is named lucky because he’s got away with many things but one mistake
caught up on him, which ended with him going to prison. This character is
suitable for my film because he is a young lad who is only experiencing
prison for the first time but he comes across as cheeky but always talks
himself out of trouble.
Stretch
Stretch is the most unreliable out of the team but he is the man who is going to get them a
transport to get as far away from the prison. This character is suitable for my film because he
is the only person in the group who looks to find trouble and he can’t help
himself when someone says something to him.
Officer Stone
Officer Stone is the copper who isn’t in there to do his job, he wants to make
the prisoners' life hell. Once you become enemies with him he will make sure
you will never leave the prison. He is one of the toughest guards in the prison
and he likes to punish anyone who gets into trouble with him.
Bando
He is the main enemy of the brothers, as over the years they have had
confrontations with them. This character is suitable to my film because he is
the enemy to the brothers and their friends. He likes to annoy the brothers
and he knows how to get under their skin.
Suitability for new medium
This would work as a film because Prison Break has a huge fan base, as
they have made a storyline that is action packed and has many plot twists.
They made the series very action packed and it was easily followed by the audience so it
would be made into a film. The TV series has a range of storylines throughout, with each
character we get to find out some background information about them and we see why they
are in prison. The characters used would be the two main characters: Micheal Schofield and
Lincoln Burrows. Also, I would use all the main characters who are in the prison for example,
Tea Bag, Sarah Tancredi, Fernando Sucre, Brad Bellick and many more. I would keep all of
these main characters because they all have a key part to play in the prison and they keep
the storyline action packed.
