given the opportunity to contribute in improving the public education system of the country.
School-Based Management
School-Based Management is the decentralization of decision-making authority to schools. At the school level, school heads,
teachers, and students work together with community leaders, and local government officials and other stakeholders to improve
school performance.
The School Improvement Plan
In line with the move of the Department of Education to enforce shared governance as mandated by the Governance of Basic
Education Act of 2001 (R.A. 9155), DepED is institutionalizing the School Improvement Plan (SIP) through the Basic Education
Sector Reform Agenda (BESRA). The SIP is mandated by the same Act (Article 7, Section e, paragraph 4) as a mechanism to
complement School-Based Management (SBM).
The School Governing Council
The SGC provides a forum for parents, students, teachers, community stakeholders and the school head to work together towards
continuously improving student learning outcomes.
