Multifunctional self-levelling epoxy coating for floors

DESCRIPTION C-Floor E400 SL is a multifunctional self-levelling coating for floors with the following notable properties:
- Smooth and easy-to-clean finish
- High abrasion and wear resistance
- Good chemical resistance to splashes and small spillage of a wide range of chemicals
- Suitable for the preparation of self-levelling mortars mixed with appropriate silica’s and high-thickness
compact mortars
- A+ Class (“Interior air quality” classification)
- Available in ICS (Industrial Coatings Solutions) tinting system
- Fire retardant
- CE Marking product according EN 13813 and EN 1504-2

MAIN APPLICATIONS C-Floor E400 SL is used to protect concrete flooring in industrial plants and warehouses, commercial
establishments and other areas where a smooth, resistant and washable surface is required. It can provide
non-slip finishes on floated mortars with high mechanical resistance and self-levelling mortars. Can also be
used as a basis for schemes using coloured silica’s Quartz G500.

The drying times depend on room temperature, humidity, temperature of the
support, dry film thickness and ventilation. If the maximum recoating time is
exceeded, it will be necessary to make a mechanical abrasion of the surface to
guarantee a good adhesion between layers.

PAINT SYSTEMS CONCRETE FLOORS AND CEMENT MORTARS:

SEALING WITH C-FLOOR SEALER E140 or C-FLOOR PRIMER E150 DP

For substrates prepared to CSP2 grade:
Apply by brush or roller to achieve a consumption of 0.10 - 0.20 kg/m²/coat.

For substrates prepared to CSP3 grade or higher

Apply by spatula or roller to achieve a consumption of 0.30 - 0.60 kg/m²/coat.
Depending on absorption of substrate and its porosity, it may be necessary to apply supplementary coats to
completely seal the substrate.

On very porous, rough and irregular surfaces

The existing cavities and irregularities can be effectively filled by applying, with a flat spatula or a toothed
spatula, a fine mortar consisting of 1 part by weight of C-Floor Sealer E140 or C-Floor Primer E150 DP and
0,3 - 0,5 parts by weight of a mixture of Quartz G300:Quartz Powder G50 (1:1). On critical situations, it is
recommended to add about 1 % of C-Floor Thickener Additive to the primer or sealer to increase the
sealing capacity of the pores.
Alternatively, you can use a sealer with higher viscosity, C-Floor Varnish E420 QS, to make the fine mortar.
Due to the high viscosity of this sealer, the proportions of silica:varnish should be adjusted. The ratio
coating:silica, as with the ratio of the mixture of silica and silica powder, depends on the roughness of the
substrate. The applicator must decide which suitable ratios should be used to ensure a completely sealed
surface. Before applying the self-levelling mortar, is very important to make an inspection of the surface to
evaluate the surface sealing. It may be necessary to apply an extra coat to ensure that the surface is
completely sealed.
Consumption of the sealer: 1 kg/m²/mm (varies according to the irregularity of the substrate, application
method and quantity of silica).

FINISHES WITH C-FLOOR E400 SL

System A - As coating
Application by roller or toothed spatula. When applied by spatula, approximately 15 minutes after
application, run a spiked roller over the surface to eliminate air bubbles. When applied by roller, dilute the
product between 5 to 10 %.
Consumption (roller): 0.2 - 0.30 kg/m²/coat
Consumption (spatula): 1.3 kg/ m²/ mm

System B - As self-levelling mortar

Mix 1 part by weight of C-Floor E400 SL with 0.6 - 1.0 parts of silica Quartz G300 or other silica’s of granule
size 0.1 - 0.3 mm. Drop the mortar over the surface and spread it with a toothed spatula of the desired
thickness. Approximately 15 minutes later, run the spiked roller over the areas applied to eliminate the air
bubbles. To achieve a decorative effect with Flakes A020 or other similar flakes, these must be sprinkled
over the C-Floor E400 SL after the final use of the spiked roller.
Consumption of the mix: 1.5 - 1.9 kg/m²/mm
Consumption of the coating: 0.9 - 1.0 kg/m²/mm
Consumption of the silica: 0.6 - 0.9 kg/m²/mm

System C - As a non-slip coating

Apply 1 layer of C-Floor E400 SL + Quartz G300, in the ratio of 1:0.4, with a toothed spatula and run the
spiked roller for levelling the product. Approximately 15 minutes later sprinkled slowly with silica Quartz
G300 (system C1) or Quartz G800 AGS (system C2), until saturation. After 24 hours remove the non-
adherent silica and apply one layer of C-Floor E400 SL diluted at 5 % with a rubber spatula followed by an
anti-spatter roller cross coats to uniformly spread the product.
Consumption of the basecoat: 0.6 – 0.8 kg/m²
Consumption of the silica: 1.6 - 1.5 kg/m²
Consumption of the topcoat: 0.3 - 0.4 kg/m² (Quartz G300)
Consumption of the topcoat: 0.6 - 0.8 kg/m² (Quartz G800 AGS)

System D - As a non-slip coating and UV resistance

Apply 1 layer of C-Floor E400 SL + Quartz G300, in the ratio of 1:0.4, with a toothed spatula and run the
spiked roller for levelling the product. Approximately 15 later minutes later sprinkled slowly with silica
Quartz G300 (system D1) or Quartz G450 (system D2) until saturation. After 24 hours, remove the non-
adherent silica and seal with 2 coats of C-Floor PU320 HB.
Consumption of the basecoat: 0.6 - 0,8 kg/m²
Consumption of the silica: 1.6 - 2.5 kg/m²
Consumption of the topcoat (system D1): 0.30 - 0.42 kg/m²
Consumption of the topcoat (system D2): 0.45 - 0.48 kg/m²

System E - As a base for schemes using coloured and natural silica’s

Apply 1 layer of C-Floor E400 SL + Quartz G300, in the ratio by weight 1:0.4, applied by a toothed spatula
and run the spiked roller for levelling the product. Approximately 15 min later sprinkled with silica Quartz
G500 until saturated. After 24 hours remove the non-adherent silica and apply the following finishes:
System E1: 1 layer with rubber spatula of C-Floor Varnish E420 QS
System E2: 1 layer with rubber spatula of C-Floor Varnish E420 QS + 2 coats of C-Floor Varnish PU360
with 3 % of Texturing Additive (Ref. 89850).
Consumption of the base coat: 0.6 - 0.8 kg/m²
Consumption of Quartz G800 AGS or Quartz G500: 1.6 - 2.5 kg/m²
Consumption of the epoxy finish varnish: 0.4 - 0.6 kg/m²
Consumption of the polyurethane varnish: 0.10 - 0.12 kg/m²

System F - Epoxy mortar with high mechanical resistance (5 - 8 mm)

Apply 1 coat of C-Floor Sealer E140 sprinkled with Quartz G800 AGS.
Apply 1 layer of C-Floor E400 SL + silica mixture (eg: Quartz G800 AGS + Quartz G450 + Quartz G300 or
other silica’s with a granulometry of 1.2 and 2.5 mm) in the ratio by weight 1:10 (paint:silica).
Apply 2 coats of C-Floor Coating E420 QS to seal the mortar. The coating for the first coat must be
prepared with 1.5 % of C-Floor Thickener Additive and applied with a rubber spatula. The second coat can
be applied with a rubber spatula and a roller.
Consumption of C-Floor Sealer E140: 0.35 - 0.65 kg/m²/mm
Consumption of C-Floor E400 SL: 0.24 - 0.26 kg/m²/mm
Consumption of C-Floor Varnish E420 QS (1st coat): 0.7 - 0.8 kg/m²
Consumption of C-Floor Varnish E420 QS (2st coat): 0.4 - 0.5 kg/m²
Consumption of the silica: 2.4 - 2.5 kg/m²/mm

For the all systems, for a matt finish apply 2 coats of C-Floor Varnish PU385 Matt and for a satin finish

apply two coats of C-Floor Varnish PU375 Flex .

Sealer
First apply one coat of C-Floor Sealer E140.
Consumption: 0.35 - 0.65 g/m²

Mortar
Immediately after the sealer prepare the C-Floor Sealer E140 with 2 % by weight of C-Floor Thickener
Additive. Due to the very low density of this thickener, it must be incorporated using a slowly rotating
mechanical drill. Prepare a mortar of this mixture with Quartz G300, in a ratio by weight coating:silica of
1:10 and apply the mortar with a coving trowel.
Consumption of the sealer: 0.23 - 0.25 kg/m²/mm
Consumption of the silica: 2.3 - 2.4 kg/m²/mm

System G - Finish with coating

After 16 hours of mortar application, prepare the C-Floor E400 SL with 2 % by weight of C-Floor Thickener
Additive and apply the product with a brush.
Consumption of the coating: 0.6 - 0.8 kg/m²/mm

System H – Finish with coloured silicas

Apply the sealer and the mortar.

After 16 hours of mortar application, prepare the C-Floor E400 SL with 2 % by weight of C-Floor Thickener
Additive and apply the product with a brush. Sprinkle while damp with coloured silica’s Quartz G500 until
saturation.
After 16 hours remove the non-adherent silica, prepare the C-Floor Varnish E420 QS with 0.5 % by weight
of C-Floor Thickener Additive and apply the product by brush.
Consumption of the coating: 0.6 - 0.8 kg/m²
Consumption of the silica Quartz G500: 1.6 - 2.5 kg/m²
Consumption of varnish: 0.4 - 0.6 kg/m²

All these paint systems were applied on a previously sealed flat support.

SURFACE The concrete should be allowed to have a minimum 28 days to harden, have a minimal tensile strength of
PREPARATION 1.5 N/mm² and a minimum compression resistance of 25 N/mm². The C-Floor E400 SL scheme should be
applied over clean, free from laitance, oils, grease or other contaminants, dry and with sufficient roughness.
It is recommended mechanical preparation with multi-purpose machine with diamond grinding disc (CSP 2,
under guide ICRI N.º 310.2R-2013) or by grit blasting (CSP 3 to CSP 5, under guide ICRI N.º 310.2R-
2013). The product must not be applied over concrete surfaces subject to hydrostatic osmotic pressure,
unless if it will be applied over CIN-CS Moisture Barrier 2000.

Where there is in-depth contamination, various techniques can be used: high pressure steam cleaning with
caustic soda; shot blasting the floor, followed by an immediate application of an epoxy sealer. Residual
contamination must be burnt off (HCA cleaning), followed by an immediate application of C-Floor Sealer
E140 or C-Floor Primer E150 DP.

APPLICATION Before application, the colours made in ICS system should have a minimum stabilization time of 24 hours.
For the preparation of the product should be used a low speed drill (up to 400 rpm) and a paddle specially
designed to entrap as little air as possible. Stir previously the component Resin. Add the component Cure
to component Resin and stir the mix during 5 minutes with a power mixer at low revolutions. To ensure a
perfect mix, pour the components into another container and mix again for 1 to 2 minutes. DO NOT MIX
MANUALLY. In closed areas it should be created good ventilation conditions during the application and
drying.

Room and drying application conditions:

Air temperature 10 to 35 ºC
Relative humidity less than 75 %
Minimal surface temperature 3 ºC above dew point , minimum temperature of 10 ºC
Product temperature 15 to 25 ºC
Substrate humidity Concrete: less than 4 %; With C-Floor Primer E150 DP: less than
6 %, according to ASTM F2659 (measured with “Tramex”
equipment type).
CIN-CS Moisture Barrier 2000 or Waterproof Mortar: the
superficial humidity should be inferior to 15 % (measured with
“Protimeter” equipment type), if the primer C-Floor Sealer E140 is
to be used; the superficial humidity should be inferior to 40 %
(measured with a “Protimeter” equipment type) if C-Floor Varnish
E250 WB or C-Floor Primer E150 DP is to be applied.

CE Marking is the evidence given by CIN that this product is subject to the provisions of Community
Directives of the Construction Products that are applicable with European Regulation nº 305/2011 on
March, 9.
This product complies with the requirements of Annex ZA of the standard EN 13813 “Screed material and
floor sounds - Sound material - Properties and requirements” in line with system of conformity 3.
This product also complies with the requirements refereed in the Annex ZA of the European Standard EN
1504-2 “Products and Systems for the protection and repair of concrete structures. Definitions,
requirements, quality control and conformity assessment. Part 2: Surface protection systems for concrete”,
according to the principles 1 (protection against the ingress), 2 (humidity control) and 8 (increased
resistivity), in line with a compliance system 4 and 3 (Table ZA.3d).
Its main characteristics can be found in the declaration of performance.

PERFORMANCE Abrasion resistance

The Taber abrasion is 54 mg (CS10, 1000 cycles, 1000 g) according to ASTM D4060.

Hardness
The Shore D hardness is 75, according to EN ISO 868.

General hygiene requirements

Complies with the general requirements applicable to food companies, according Annex II, Cap. I and II of
CE Regulations nº 852/2004 from European Parliament and Council of 29.02.2004.

Chemical Resistance
Test performed according to ASTM D1308, method 3.1.2. Drying and cure conditions: 1 week at 23 °C and
50 % of relative humidity. The results of chemical resistance are valid for drying conditions and test method
referred. For other conditions, results of chemical resistance may be different.

NOTES AND 1) This product must be used in the colour closest to the natural or coloured silicas.
OBSERVATIONS 2) The matt varnish C-Floor Varnish PU385 Matt and the satin varnish C-Floor Varnish PU375 Flex may
cause slight colour variation of the product.
3) The CE Marking was carried out with the primer C-Floor Sealer E140 and C-Floor Primer E150 DP.
4) Although C-Floor E400 SL has good resistance to abrasion when applied to floors, it suffers greater or
lesser damage depending on the intensity and type of traffic to which it is exposed. To increase
resistance to wear, we recommend the application of 2 coats of matt polyurethane coating C-Floor
Varnish PU385 Matt or another recommended topcoat varnish. Alternatively, suitable waxes can be
used for protection and maintenance.
5) To ensure that there are no differences in shade on the floor, it is recommended to apply a single batch
of product in the same area of application.
6) The slip class was determined on a flat support with a "Wessex" pendulum, with a "TRRL Rubber-Slider
55" for wet surfaces, at 23 °C and 50 % relative humidity. For other test conditions the class may vary.
The class determination is still dependent on consumption, application method, roller type, dilution,
base irregularity, drying time, cleaning state, contamination, environmental conditions and wear.
