Assignment # 3

1. My genetic Inheritance

According to BasicBiology.net, genetic inheritance is a basic principle of genetics and

explains how characteristics are passed from one generation to the next. Personally, I observed
that from top to toe most of my genetic inherited traits came dominantly from my father’s DNA.
For example, I got my straight hair from him, because my mother was a curly one, and my other
siblings are curly too. Also, I got black hair from both of my parents, my nose is a mixture of
both of my parents, and because my mom had a pointed nose unlike my father had the typical
nose of Filipinos. In addition, my facial structure including my brown and shiny eyes, I got from
my father as well as my mouth. Moreover, the thickness of my hair in my body I got from my
father’s side too, that’s why I got mustache and hair on my forearm when I was 13 years old
only. Furthermore, I got my physique from both of my parents, in fact, I am currently 5’9 ½ and
both of them are tall too. Lastly, not all the things I have inherited is all about my physical
features, instead I also got the attitude of my parents that are kind, leader in nature, emphatic
and intelligent.

2. My cultural environment

Before I described my cultural environment, let me first share where do I live – well, I
grew up here in Navotas but back then, I was born in a province in Daram, Samar located at
Region VIII, that’s why my culture on my younger age is based on the tradition of the elders in
my province where we follow folklores, myths and guidelines of my elders or simply we mostly
believed in (pamahiin) superstition. I remember back then, my grandmother always said to me
that “bawal yan, mamalasin ka pag laki mo (it’s forbidden to do that, you might get unlucky in
the future)” it emphasize that my culture on my development stage were guided in traditional
one. On the other hand, my cultural environment here living in Metro Manila, since I was in
elementary, I noticed that most of the way of living of individuals are highly enveloped by
religious matter, for example, there are a lot of rosaries, prayer in school and before meal, etc.
All in all, my cultural environment now is more flexible because it adapts both traditional and
liberal ideas; in such it’s affected by most of peers, colleagues, and even social media.
3. My biocultural self

The following are my biocultural self:

I usually help those in need, this trait is inherited because I can see that even when I
was a child my parents usually volunteer themselves or simply help people, in such in a
culture where I am living, it’s normal to help people by sense of bayanihan.
I often choose eating vegetables than eating meat, I inherited it from my parents
because they came from provinces, in such, it follow the traditional culture that we
should eat more veggies to stay healthy and fit.
I can understand things way easier – it is a byproduct of the genes of my parents that I
have inherited plus to the experience that I encounter in the society where I am living.
I can easily adapt to tough situations, personally, I am trained to be adaptive, perhaps, I
am not a choosy person, in such in there is no rich or pretentious culture in the place
where I am living because it’s not a commercial one.
One of the best biocultural trait that I had is that I am a good swimmer, it rooted from my
father because he was a former swimmer in the Palarong Pambansa, in such we also
live here in Navotas where we are surrounded by the sea, so when I was younger I
usually hangout with my friends to swim on the sea, then that’s the point where I master
swimming.
Lastly, I think my leadership skills were innate and also sharpened through experience. I
think I also inherited it because my mother is managing board in her company while my
father is a barangay official, in addition to my personal leadership skills in schools and in
organizations.
