UNIT 1: Activity 1

1. Why is it necessary for one to have a philosophical perspective on arts?

Having a philosophical perspective on arts will give us understanding and appreciation on arts.
Studying the nature of arts will give us idea on concepts of it such as interpretation,
representation, expression and form. Also, it helps us on how we criticize the art. It is
particularly helpful and often necessary for works of art that are more than usually difficult, such
that persons not already familiar with the artist or the genre or the period would be unable to
adequately understand or enjoy the work if left to themselves.

2. Identify other philosophers who advocated the arts and compare their ideas with
those of the three notable ones as discussed in this module.

Socrates
Friedrich Nietzsche
John Locke was an English philosopher and political thinker born in 1632 in Wrington,
Somerset, England, and died in 1704 in High Laver, Essex. He is remembered as the father of
British empericism and the author of the first systematic show and defense of political liberalism.
In political theory or political philosophy, John Locke rejected the theory of the sacred rights of
kings and argued that any individual has natural rights to life, liberty, and property, and that
rulers who do not uphold those rights can, if necessary, be removed by force by the people.

3. Whose perspective of the arts do you adhere to? Why?

4. Say something about the artwork “ Art is a Friendly Deception”. Expound your idea
by means of giving relevant examples

The quote “Art is a Friendly Deception” means that Art is a harmless illusion. Art has to
trick the eyes, ears, and mind to deceive. It has to become pleasing and attractive to be
friendly. For example, Perspective in Art tricks the mind into believing that the eyes are
seeing the Horizon. A well-painted texture can trick the mind into thinking that what the
eye is seeing is a shiny metal, smooth hair, a rough stone, and so on. Art can also
evoke emotions to its viewers even if the storytelling is fictional. Art is a concept of
illusion, making its audience believe what they are seeing has a bit of a sense of reality.

UNIT III: Activity 1

Task Description: Students will choose a medium based on the previously discussed
topics and create a simple actual representation of the chosen artwork. The piece must
reflect the relevance to the current social scenario along with a written reflection
regarding the artwork that will awaken and move the viewers emotional state regarding
the art piece.
The media that I used is drawing which is the fundamental skill needed in the
visual arts and the type of media on drawing that I used is pencil which is made from
graphite that comes in different hardness form soft to hard or thickness from thick to
needle-like. My artwork represents our present situation the problem that all around the
world suffers to this pandemic.

trabaho. Ngunit ano nga bang aksyon ang ginagawa nila? Bakit patuloy padin ang pagdami ng
naapektuhan ng pandemya. Nasaan nga ba ang mali nasa Mamayanang Pilipino o Gobyerno?
