A COMPUTERISED GARAGE BOOKING SYSTEM TO HELP

MINIMIZE THE TIME WASTED AT THE GARAGE AREAS IN

KENYA .
Sept - Dec 2021

1 Introduction
1.1 Background
Locating a single garage space in any metropolitan areas is becoming one of
the major concerns of the society as many citizens are not able to easily locate
a garage, review it and know when they can be served next and what is their
wait time. [1]This can be worse during emergency hours when one wants to get
their vehicles fixed but they can’t locate a genuine working garage.Other than
that, even if they is a garage,it is not confirmed that they will get the skilled
personnel since they are not able to verify.
Motor vehicle garages in Kenya deal with motor vehicle body building, ac-
cidental repairs, reconditioning of old vehicles and customization. Most of the
garages also act as training centres for mechanics. The garages operate as com-
panies, partnerships and sole proprietor-ships. Their form of employment is
both permanent and casual, with casual employees being hired when there is a
stretch on the available labour. The importance of the garages in the economy is
not limited to employment only. The garages also help in preventing economic
waste and environmental degradation by repairing cars which would otherwise
be grounded and dumped. They have also become sources of innovation, a fact
that can be attested to by the Kenyan Matatu culture [5] Vehicle garage and
workshops do not support any systematic approach of storing data which re-
sult in loss of data [2]. Our objective of the project is to modernize today’s
generation of garage working and to make the processing simple, reliable and
more systematic. The main aim is to provide the best to the employee from the
working point of view and to the customer from the service point of view and
thus increasing the level at which a car can be worked upon.
The garage place is very important area all over the world. Every day
thousands of car owners spend a lot of the time trying to find where to get their
vehicle fixed [2]. The result of this situation is theft in urban areas, increasing
traffic congestion and frustration of drivers[3]. In order to solve this problem, the
implementation of a computerised Online garage Reservation/booking System
in this city for managing the garage places is crucial. It will allow the cars
owners to Reserve a garage time on the project Platforms anytime, anywhere.
Many citizens are having to continuously encounter many challenges con-
cerning its safety of the garage, the data collected at the garage and its security
as they mostly use paper based system, physical struggle for parking by drivers,
wastage of time, congestion and collision [4]. Firms are also faced with profit
and loss data management.

1.2 Objectives
1.2.1 General Objectives
The proposed project intends to come-up with a computerised online garage
booking system. The system will majorly solve the congestion, help save on time
and help the garage firms monitor their profits/looses incurred and also keep a
good truck of their clients. This will make sure that there is advanced service
delivery in the garage sectors, better management and better communication.

1.2.2 Specific Objectives

The proposed project will be carried out in several phases. This will involve
several steps that includes:
• Data collection that will be used in better decision making when coming
up with the project.
• Then second step will include development of the project.

• Then the project testing will be carried out

• Lastly, the project will be deployed to the market.Project maintenance
services will also be carried out timely.

1.3 Justification
This project is important to be done because, accuracy of information used in
this system. With this system, users will be able to know whether the exact
needed services are available, if there are a space available for their vehicles,
they will also be able to reserve the slot right away. Using this system as a
means to manage a garage activities, it will be more efficient, effective and
beneficial for the car owners and the public at large. This is because, they
are able to reserve a garage service and go to the destination without wasting
much time locating a single garage offering the service of need. In addition to
this there is lesser fuel consumption by the drivers in terms of reduced time
wastage, greater management of data and advanced features and services with
better communications.

1.4 Scope
The proposed project, will focus on Kenyan Garages with an aim of cutting on
time wasted while finding a garage service, improved data management at the
garage sector, improved garage services and also ensuring better communica-
tions with the clients and greater decision makings at the firms due to advanced
data analysis tools made available.

3
1.5 Limitations
The major limitations in the implementation of the project will be;

• Kenyans finding it hard adjusting to the new system

• Challenges in training users on how to use the system.
