SECOND REPORT

Yanina Huaygua
UNIVERSIDAD NACIONAL DE HURLINGHAM
Report of lesson
Observation

 Teacher: Flavia Ivalo

 Date: September 10th
 Course: 4to Informática
 School: Escuela Técnica N°1 “OEA”
 Time: 9:50 am to 12 am
 Material: Grammar Exercises “Reported Speech” and Dictionaries.
At the beginning, there were only six students in the lesson (four boys and
two girls) The rest arrived later because they did not have a previous class.
The teacher greeted them and explained them that today she is going to
tell them their final marks of the term, the students seemed very anxious.
However, the atmosphere was friendly, the teacher always kept eye-
contact with the students. What’s more, the students asked the teacher
personal questions in a nice way and she answered them.
Activity
Two students brought dictionaries from the library because a classmate
was confused with the meaning of some words that the teacher wrote on
the blackboard. The teacher tried to explain it but it was not clear. After
that, the teacher said to the group that while she was going to see the
marks, they had to do a task of reading comprehension about robots in
groups of two. One student was not paying attention but the teacher did
not say anything about it. In order to explain the text, they had to read,
the teacher read the text in a loud voice and translated some phrases. The
tasks were on the blackboard. One of the phrases was translated by a
student who said “Made in China” means “hecho en China”. Some of them
started a little conversation about the culture of that country but this topic
disappeared when one classmate showed the students a video.
Some students at the back were laughing because one said “Estoy en
modo anglosajón”. While teacher tried to see their notes, most of them
were not doing the activity they must do because the task was not clear,
so they were looking at their cellphones and sending messages. A girl
talked about some homework of another subject and two students started
singing a Justin Bieber’s song.
There were two groups who finished the task because one of the students,
Abril, knew English and she understood what to do. They gave the teacher
their work and the rest saw that as a consequence, they tried to do the
same. The teacher explained them one more time that task and that it was
a mistake on the blackboard. She asked them if they remember the
difference between was and were, surprisingly only two did not
remember that. A student, Azul, thought she did not English and hated it.
She asked the teacher do not speak in English because she cannot
understand.
They had a little break. After sitting on the chair, they were really tired and
did not want to finish the activity the teacher gave them so they only kept
in silence and the teacher asked them to finish the task because some of
them need that to pass the term. A group started talking about the History
exam and then, the rest the group said to the teacher that the History
teacher was not good with them.
The students mentioned to “Pablo” a boy who is not going to class, and
one of them said that he changed a lot. The teacher interrupted them to
say the final marks. Most of them passed but those who did not, the
teacher said that they had a last opportunity. They must work hard on the
last term.
Finally, the students talked about drugs and a girl of the school who was
not going to class because she hit another girl on the face.
General comments:
The teacher took two hours for an activity that was not clear for them at
the beginning. It was not helpful for those who finished quickly the
activity. The material was contextualized because it was about robots but
it seemed not familiar for them, even when they are studying a
technology specialty.
