Assignment Brief and Guidance:

Scenario: Digital Wellbeing is about fashioning and sustaining a healthy relationship with technology. As
technology plays a big part in our lives we find ourselves spending an increasing amount of time online
and on our devices. Our wellbeing is dependent upon our mental and physical health and thereby our
digital wellbeing is influenced by our online interactions and the amount of time we spend on our
Page | 3
devices.
Whilst technology and the internet can simplify and enhance our lives they can also be distracting, be a
cause of anxiety, and make us feel upset. Being in control of technology enables us to use its full
potential and gain all the benefits of it.

Tasks
As a member of Research and Development department, you have been assigned a mini-project to
explore some of the areas of digital wellbeing from the standpoint of a prospective computing
professional and investigate digital wellbeing within computing systems and explore the responsibilities
and solutions to the problems presented.
You need to do primary research (both qualitative and quantitative research) and secondary research to
find out that impact and conduct a report for your research. Even it’s a mini-project, you must apply
project management (PM) techniques such as project charter with aims, objectives, cost etc. As for time
management, you need to produce WBS and Gantt chart with reasonable tasks and time. A project
logbook is required to provide evidence of the project development process and ongoing reflection for
every week. This logbook will be needed later for your reflection and evaluation in Assignment 2. As part
of QA (quality assurance) policy, in the report you also need to critically evaluate the PM process and
appropriate research methodologies applied.
Your report must have an introduction stating the project aims and objectives. This must be followed by
a copy of your project management plan. Your plan should show the milestones when you will review
with your tutor your ongoing progress so far. You will submit your logbook which shows how you have
carried out the project.

ASSIGNMENT 1 ANSWERS

LO1 Establish project aims, objectives and timeframes

based on the chosen theme

P1 Devise project aims and objectives for a chosen scenario.

1.1 Introduction to Project Management
1.1.1 Definition of Project
A project is a series of tasks that must be completed to achieve a specific outcome. Also, a
project can be defined as a set of inputs and outputs necessary to achieve a specific goal.
Projects can range from simple to complex, and one or a hundred people can manage them.
A manager or executive often describes and delegates projects. They surpass their
expectations and objectives, and it is up to the Logistics Management Team to carry out the
project in a timely manner. Terms may be set sometimes or a time limit may be set. Some
teams break up the project into individual tasks for good project productivity so that they
can manage accountability and maximize team strengths.

Time: planning is a set of strategies that are used to create and present schedules indicating
when work is going to be done.

Cost: how to obtain the necessary funds and handle the finances?

Quality: how to ensure health for deliverables and management processes?

1.1.2 Definition of Project Management

Project management is the process of designing, preparing, implementing, monitoring and
closing a team's work to achieve specific targets and fulfill certain success criteria at the
specified time. The primary challenge in project management is to reach these project

Page | 8
objectives within the specified time constraints. The main restrictions are range, space,
performance and budget. The secondary — and more aggressive— problem is to maximize
the distribution of necessary inputs and adapt them to achieve predefined targets.

The aim of project management is to deliver a full project that satisfies the expectations of
the company. In many instances, the purpose of project management is also to mold and
change the brief of the company so that it can feasibly meet the priorities of the client.
Once the expectations of the company are clearly defined, they will affect the choices made
by other people involved in the project, such as project managers, architects, contractors
and subcontractors. Ill-defined and overly imposed project management priorities is
harmful to decision-making.

A project is a temporary undertaking designed to produce a unique product, service or

result with a predetermined start and end (usually time-constrained and often restricted by
financing or staffing) dedicated to achieving specific goals and objectives, primarily to bring
about beneficial change or added value. The temporary nature of projects compares with
business as usual (or operations); In reality, handling these distinct development methods
requires specific technological expertise and management strategies to be developed.

For example , this is a Technology implementation project

1.1.3 Definition of Software Project Management

Software project management refers to a branch of project management dedicated to the
planning, scheduling, allocation of resources, execution, tracking and delivery of software
and web projects.

Page | 9
Software engineering project management is different from conventional project
management because software projects have a complex lifecycle process that requires
multiple rounds of reviewing, upgrading, and customer feedback. To order to keep up with
the increasing pace of industry, many IT-related initiatives are handled in an agile fashion
and iterate depending on client and stakeholder input.

For example : Waterfall model , spiral model , V-shaped model

1.2 The key stages of Project Management

1.2.1 Phase 1: Project Initiation

Page | 12
In this stage , the project manager have to confirm the project requirement and the
consumer needs. The project launch the project and start to document all the project
progress.

1.2.2 Phase 2: Project Planning

In this stage , the project manager have to identify the project consumes and requirement
and plan the project schedule or chart. Some of the project consumes are project scope ,
budget , time , effort , resources…

• Project resources including human resources , company resources, personal resources,

hardware and software resources, space resources, and other environment resources.
• Project scope are planning document, work breakdown schedule, Gantt chart ,
communication plan , Forecasting and Actual result report ,tracking granularity,
customer needs or problem solve, cost document and other governance (like risk
management).
• Project budget mostly are resources cost and effort for the project.
• Project time mostly are project document , scope and time phase between steps.

1.2.3 Phase 3: Project Execution

Create and manage a team that will be working on the project.

Execute the project's scope.

Recommend changes, bug fixes, process group planning, implementation and monitoring
preventive and disciplinary action.

Contact all interested parties in good time.

Approved organizational, study and program changes have been implemented.

Team building workouts.

To offer gratitude and opportunities to the team members to keep them focused.

Keep Progress Review sessions to ensure the project is on track and any delays are resolved
as quickly as possible.

Using Work Authorization in services for work identification.

Request responds to your tendering and outsourcing criteria from the supplier .

Page | 13
1.2.4 Phase 4: Project Performance/Monitoring
Performance and Control Project Work requires comparing the actual project output with
the scheduled project management activities. It can primarily be seen as a process of
command that takes place at all stages of a plan, i.e. from initiation to closure. Monitoring
and monitoring project work for small projects is comparatively an easy task. But, as you
know, for large projects where the project manager needs a systematic effort to monitor
and control how the processes are going, project management is more narrowly necessary.
For large projects, he or she will not be personally involved for carrying out project work.

1.2.5 Phase 5: Project Closure

Confirmation that all the work has been done, confirmation that all approved project
management procedures have been carried out, and formal recognition of project
completion — everyone acknowledges that it has been completed.

1.3 The advantages of project management

Page | 14

4.2 Literature analysis
There’s no doubt that technology played a major part in our lives. According to the
survey , people can study , work , play games , access to social networks . Because
technology is so useful and entertaining , many people get addicted to it. Nowadays , we
can see that teenagers
would rather use smartphones/computer rather than playing sports with others. We are
only scratching the surface , some people even become addicts to online life which leads
to weakening of the eye (have to wear glasses) , some got psychological problems ,
some abandon their studies/work just to satisfy their online life , remembering and
focus abilities are weakened.
Online addiction is a global problem . In overall , we can’t deny the fact that technology
has overwhelming advantages , however we have to manage our time using it.
