6 GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
lle
6.1 MATERIALS
tro
6.1.1 Prepreg
on
The epoxy resin system shall be of high quality suitable for the intended
purpose and non-corrosive to metals. The resin shall be free of all foreign
matter. The resin shall be capable of thoroughly wetting the aramid
fibers during impregnation.
7 DETAIL REQUIREMENTS
7.1 PREPREG
The prepreg shall possess a degree of tack and drape sufficient to ensure
d
easy handling in routine fabrication procedures in the temperature range
te
of +65˚F to +75˚F.
in
The required tack shall allow the prepreg to adhere to itself during hand
lay-up to the extent that stripping a ply will not appreciably disturb the
Pr
previous ply. This degree of tack shall be exhibited for a minimum of 10
days at a temperature of +65˚F to +75˚F with a relative humidity of 65%
If
maximum.
The required drape shall allow the prepreg to be deformed or contoured
y
over or in a mold and to remain in this position without restraint.
op
The shelf life of preimpregnated material supplied to this Specification
C
shall be a minimum of 180 days from the date of receipt at the purchaser’s
destination when stored under refrigeration at 0˚F or below. In addition,
d
The aramid yarn used shall meet all the requirements of AMS 3901/3.
The woven aramid cloth shall meet all the requirements of AMS 3902.

be clearly identified as nonconforming areas.
y
op
Areas of nonconforming material shall be clearly marked on the edge of
the prepreg material at the start and the end of each defect.
C
The total maximum amount of nonconforming areas on each roll shall not
exceed 15% of the roll length. Specific inspection instructions shall be
d
A maximum of 1.5 inches of selvage width on each side of the cloth shall
be permitted.
tro
The alignment of the warp and fill yarns shall be perpendicular to each
on
other. All the warp and fill yarns of the preimpregnated fabric shall be
parallel to their respective direction and shall meet the requirements of
AMS 3902.
