Assignment – Final Test

Lecturer Name: Ganesh Subramanian

1. Why might your team be constantly failing to meet committed deadlines,

and its velocity is unstable?
There can be many reasons. Following are some.
a) The team is working on undocumented legacy code.
b) Technical debt and poorly written code.
c) Stakeholder are constantly intervening the process of the team.

2. The product backlog has over 200 tickets. Is this acceptable?

Product backlog can have as many tickets and it is acceptable but the development
team will only focus on the prioritized ones.
3. Is velocity a good proxy for productivity?

No, velocity is good proxy for the team capacity not for the productivity. Because,
by trying to maximize the velocity can lead to decrease in productivity.

4. How would you deal with a team member who considers sprint planning
meetings a waste of time and refuses to participate?

If any individual refuses to participate in the sprint planning meeting. As a scrum

master, we should speak the individual privately and ask open-ended questions.
And should explain to him about the importance of the sprint planning meeting
and encourage him to attend.

5. How much capacity would you consider to refactor, fix important bugs,
explore new technologies or ideas?
One best technique is to follow the 15-10-5 rule.
a) 15% to refactor
b) 10% to fix the important bugs
c) 5% to explore the technologies or ideas

6. A product owner assigns user stories to specific team members. How do

you react?

The Scrum master relationship with the product owner is very important as it
balances the need to deliver product updates as fast as possible and the need to
maintain an efficient team. The goal of the Scrum master to explain to the product
owner why such actions upset this balance.By assigning user stories to specific
team members, the product owner implicitly claims that they know better than the
team who is the best person for the job. This is rarely true as the product owner is
not working directly with the team all day and does not have the intimate
knowledge of the internal workings of the team. Also, such actions can undercut
the motivation of the team as scrum teams are expected to be self-organizing.
7. How could you determine the success of Agile in your company?

We cannot say how far the agile is working. Every company explain their success
in different terms with agile. We can say the success with the quality of the
software, fewer bugs in the project, team collaboration and efficiency.

8. Should the Scrum team be involved in the product discovery process? Why?

Yes, the scrum team should be involved in the product discovery process. Because,
the product owner and scrum team members will develop a common understanding
of the market problem and client needs.

9. How do you calculate the capacity and velocity of a Scrum team?

Velocity is calculated by average the number of completed story points in previous

sprints. Velocity is used to determine the capacity , how many product backlog
items the team should take for the next sprint . capacity shows how much
availability the team has for the upcoming sprint.

10. Your product owner has pushed to include in the upcoming sprint a user
story, which does not have the final designs yet. The Design team promises
to deliver them on the second day of the sprint. How do you react?

If the design is not ready then the team will definitely reject it. As agile is more for
the people than process. So, if the performance of the design team is good and by
considering their past delivery of the design, we can accept it with the user story
but still we should talk to the product owner with the exception.
