1. Course Description

This Financial Management ONLINE course will focus on


understanding financial statements, financial analysis, short-
term financial forecasting, working capital analysis, short-
term financing, and basics of Time Value of Money. This
course, along with Financing Accounting, will be the key
prerequisites for Finance major courses.

The course will be taught using a mix of text chapters, videos,


and real-life documents, to help students relate theory with
practice. This is a quantitative course, where all examples,
assignments, quizzes, tests, and exams will involve problem
solving. In order to get a good grade in this course, students
must thoroughly work through the examples in the relevant
chapters, and know how to solve the assignment problems on
their own.

COURSE RULES & POLICIES (subject to change)

1. Google Classroom: You are required to join the


Google Classroom (FIN 501-2 Spring 2021 - IR)for
this course, by accepting the invitation emailed to
you. Marks will be deducted if you have not joined
Google Classroom before the start of class session
2. Please download the Classroom App to your
smartphone.
2. Online Classes: All online classes, tutorials and
office hours will be held using Zoom. Please
download the Zoom App to your laptop/tablet/PC,
and your smartphone. Make sure that you have
registered for Zoom using your ULAB email
address. After registration, please upload your
portrait photo. The Zoom class links will be sent
via Google Classroom. During class, please sit at a
table, and have blank paper, pen and calculator
ready.
3. WhatsApp: You are required to join the WhatsApp
group “FIN 501-2 Spring 2021”. If you don’t have
WhatsApp, please download the App, register,
and let me know the mobile number. The
WhatsApp group will be used for my message
postings. Please do not use it for chatting among
yourselves.

4. Google Calendar: Please download the Google
Calendar link to your smartphone, and register
using your ULAB email address.
5. Computer requirement: You will need a laptop or
desktop to attend this course and fulfill all the
course requirements.
6. Webcam: A webcam (built-in or external) is
required for this course. Please make sure that
your webcam is working.
7. Headset: A headset is recommended for speaking
and listening.
8. Online Class Etiquette:
a. Keep your microphone muted. Unmute only
when requested.
b.You may keep your video on through the
class. If you turn it off, you will be required to
turn it on when requested.
c. You can ask questions at any time using the
Zoom chat function. If you wish to ask a
question verbally, please use the “Raise
Hand” function in Zoom, and wait for my
invitation to ask the question.
d.You must upload your portrait photo to your
Zoom account, and make sure your name is
displayed at the bottom of the photo.
9. Class Attendance: Class attendance is required in
Course Outline | Page 8 of 4
this course. If you miss six class sessions (each
class meeting has 2 sessions) in the semester, you
may receive an F grade or a reduction of your
letter grade. The Zoom class will be locked after 30
minutes from the start of class; you will not be
able to join the class after locking. I will take
attendance twice in each class - near the start and
near the end. You will be required to turn your
video on during attendance taking. Leaving class
early will not be allowed, without my permission.
10. Assignments: All assignments will be assigned
on Google Classroom. You must prepare your
answers using Google Docs or Google Sheets, and
the same must be uploaded to Classroom.
11. Late submissions: Assignment must be
handed in on or before the deadline. There will be
a deduction of 50% marks for late submission of
up to 24 hours. Submissions beyond this will not
be accepted.
12. Midterm and Final Exams: You will be
required to keep your video on throughout the
exam. The question paper will be uploaded to the
Classroom. You will write your answers on paper.
At the end of the exam, you will scan the answers
sheets using CamScanner and upload the same to
the Classroom.

13. Textbook: You must be able to access your
textbook link during class, using your
smartphone/tablet/laptop/PC.
14. Course materials/announcements: All the
course materials, announcements, schedule of
assessments will be communicated via GOOGLE
CLASSROOM. Sometimes, I will send messages via
email to your ULAB address or common messages
to WhatsApp So, you must regularly check your
ULAB email and GOOGLE CLASSROOM.
15. Makeups: NO MAKEUPS for quizzes. I will
consider make-up for Midterm or Final
Assessment on serious health grounds only,
provided you have informed me BEFORE the exam
date, and emailed me supporting documents from
a doctor or hospital. I may need additional proof. I
reserve the right to not allow the make-up exam.
When a make-up exam is arranged, it may be
more difficult than the missed exam, and grading
may also be more strict. So don’t miss exams!
16. Academic honesty: Academic honesty is
expected of all students. You will be received a
Grade F if caught cheating in any form or copying
others’ work (plagiarism) in assignments, quizzes,
exams and any other assessments. You will be
penalised if you help someone else to cheat.
