16 Divisions of Construction
DIVISION 1: General Requirements
 Providing legal requirements, scope of work, and quality control.

 The first division of construction also includes plans on how to begin construction
and information about how the work will be closed after the construction.
 Processing and Securing of Permits and Insurance The contractor shall be
responsible for securing all necessary permits related to the project, which shall
include but not limited to building permits, occupancy permit, etc.
DIVISION 2: Site Construction
 Includes testing and different requirements that should be performed. Some of

this testing’s are soil testing, core drilling, standard penetration tests, and seismic
exploration.
 Under this division is demolition of current structure materials in a particular
project.
 Site construction which is division 2 also includes structure moving, clearing and
grubbing of shrubs, tree removal, pruning, and tree relocation.
DIVISION 3: Concrete
 All concrete works are present in this division.

 Expansion and contraction joints, cast-in-place concrete, specially placed
concrete and recast concrete are also part of division 3 which is for concrete works.
DIVISION 4: Masonry
 Building structures from individual units.

 Deals with building materials such as bricks, stone, fore brick, glass brick, clay
backing tile, and ceramic.
 Another subject that is included in this particular division is join reinforcement,
mortar, anchors and tie system
DIVISION 5: Metals
 A building material that is hard, shinny, malleable and a good electrical

conductor.
 This section is comprised of structures that are dealing with steal.
 Metal fabrication such as stairs, handrails and railings are under this division.
DIVISION 6: Wood and Plastics
 When it comes to rough carpentry, heavy timber construction, prefabricated
structural wood and finished carpentry, division 6 is the responsible in dealing with
these subjects.
 Under plastics there are joists, studs, columns, beams, hangers, and connecting
devices.
DIVISION 7: Thermal and Moisture Protection
 Using tools that can help in sealing the outside against most and thermal heat.
 The topics related to division 7 are roofing materials, waterproof materials,
flashing and sheet metal trim, insulation and others.
 All applications shall be strictly as per Manufacturer's Specifications. It shall
strictly be performed by licensed or certified applicators / waterproofing contractor
representing waterproofing manufacturer or insulation company specified herein.
The Procuring Entity shall be furnished with pertinent literature and detailed
drawings WATERPROOFING: Furnish all labor, materials, equipment, plant and
other facilities required to complete all waterproofing work as shown on the drawings
and herein specified. All applications shall be strictly performed by an approved
waterproofing Contractor. All materials shall be Environmental Protection Agency
(EPA) certified and approved.
DIVISION 8: Doors and Windows
 Materials that are included in this division are metal doors, wood and plastic
doors, entrances and storefront.
 Windows are essential for good ventilation. Materials often used in dealing with
windows are metal windows, special windows, wood and plastic windows and
hardware and specialties.
DIVISION 9: Finishes
 It is used in the final part of the construction or during manufacturing process.

 Topics and materials that are under this division is the specification of lath and
plaster, gypsum wallboard, terrazzo, acoustical treatment and ceiling

DIVISION 10: Specialties
 Specifications or items that are needed in construction do not fall under other
divisions of specifications; they are often found in this division.
DIVISION 11: Equipment
 Equipment that will be used in the construction will be listed by the general
contractor as a part of the construction of the building.
DIVISION 12: Furnishings
 furniture and other decorative accessories are under furnishings.
 Artworks, window treatments such as paintings, fabrics, rugs and others can be
described here in the 12th division.
DIVISION 13: Special construction
 Explanation and important description of special spaces are seen in this division.
 Construction of special areas such as clean rooms, operating rooms,
instrumentation rooms and others are available in special construction division.
DIVISION 14: Conveying System
 Subjects related to dumbwaiters, elevators, hoists and cranes are in division 14.
DIVISION 15: Mechanical
 Using machinery or machines

 This division is comprised of air conditioning, ventilating, and heating in a
structure.
 Plumbing works or specification are also under this division
 All work shall be performed in accordance with the requirements of all applicable
laws of the Republic of the Philippines and all local codes and ordinances.
DIVISION 16: Electrical
 In charge in giving power in a structure.

 It consists of general provision, basic materials and methods, power generation,
power transmission and lighting.
 The work to be done under this DIVISION of the Specifications consist of the
fabrication, furnishing delivery and installation, complete in all details of the Electrical
Work, at the subject premises and all work materials incidental to the proper
completion of the installation, except those portions of the work which are expressly
stated to be done by others. All work shall be done in accordance with the governing
Codes and Regulations and with the Specifications, except where same shall
conflict with such codes etc., which latter shall then govern.
