Crime scene investigation is the process where the crime scene investigator undertake the tasks of
taking hold the scene of the crime, searching for clues, documenting the scene and nearby areas,
gathering the evidence, safekeeping of the evidence gathered and analysis of the crime based on the
evidence gathered. It must be emphasized that the investigator are required to respond and must be at
the scene of the crime the earliest possible to physically secure the evidence and provide all necessary
steps to ensure that the crime scene is not tampered. So much so, the investigator must be able to
collect the evidence, the sketches given and the statements provided in relation to the crime to facilitate
the reconstruction of the events of the commission of the crime. It is important that the investigator will
be able to synthesize the evidence gathered without any errors to be able to set as proof of guilt or
innocence of an accused in any court of law. (Baldwin, 2012; Crime Scene Investigator Network, 2016)
The qualities of a cybercrime investigators are the same with any competent criminal investigator. He
must possess the generic qualities of criminal investigators such as excellent observation skills, reliable
memory, good organization and documentation skills and he also must be objective, knowledgeable,
curious, intelligent and patient. He must be able to think like the criminal and has the ability to imagine
constructively. More importantly, the crime scene investigator must have basic understanding of
computer science, the computer network protocol, knowledge of the computer jargon, awareness of
the hacker culture and great familiarity with the computer and networking security issues. On top of
these qualities and characteristics, the cybercrime investigator must undergo rigid and extensive training
covering the cyber criminality, updates and current state of the crime fighting methods in order to have
