The iconic song "I Will Always Love You" by Dolly Parton but twenty years later sung
by Whitney Houston. Both times it was released it became a hit by the different twists they have
on the song one being a country singer and the other an R&B singer. The song was originally by
Parton who made it about a work relationship while Houston wrote it about a relationship. The
song “I Will Always Love You” is a song that is cherished by many. The two versions of the
song are both great, but both have very different meanings.
Parton wrote “I Will Always Love You” song as a tribute to going from a show that she
was on in 1974 years later Houston heard it and made the latest version of diversional talents.
With Houston's talent to take the song to another level she was able to make it top hits again for
years after it was originally singing by Parton. You can see the distinctive styles and
personalities in just this one song. When Houston belts “And I” she uses her vocals and takes it
to another level.
Parton wrote this song as a goodbye to an old friend off a tv show. Houston heard the
song she was about to sing in a movie. She asked her manager to reach out to Parton and ask if
Houston could use it in her movie. Soon became a number one hit years later one again. When
the song first came out everyone thought it was meant for a romance but soon later found out to
be about Dolly leaving a show she was on. The relationship she made with the cast but then
Whitney turned around and used it on a show as well. In both cases the song earned a total of ten
Grammy's over the years. The music videos for both versions of the song show both women
staying someplace while a male is leaving. They turned the music videos into love stories even
After listening to both versions, you can see the difference in styles and how they both
like to take their music. Dolly likes to stay at the same consistency and does not like to go farther
than her normal range. On the other hand, Whitney Houston likes to hit those high notes and
make herself known in a song. Whitney and Dolly both like to have the long parts, but you can
tell when they are singing that Houston likes to push them a little more. As shown in the song ‘I
Will Always Love You’ the style is different, but the song can be singing in both tones and still be
a number one hit. In both cases they are known for the great song and it is one that many know
and love.
One thing that is different between the two versions of the song is the sincerity. In Dolly
Parton's version you can tell when she is talking about “I hope life treats you well...” she is more
sincere than Whitney is. Just because this song was written for someone. In Whitney’s version
she sings it and adds extra parts to it to make it her own. The way that Houston sings through and
never actually stops is a big part of why this song is a number one hit. You can see the length of
the song as well and see that Whitney adds more to it. Even though it was from Parton, and she
wrote the song. Houston adjusted have her own version of it.
The music video for Parton shows her in a house. A man comes in who was a dear friend
of hers. He is about to move and go on with his life, but she is still in the same town. In the video
he asks her to marry him and move right then with him but, she knew that this was going to
happen, so she was already prepared for it. She wrote this song to tell him goodbye and that she
will always love him. Some people mistaken the song as one for romance, however it is not.
Whiteny Houston’s version of the song is the same way, but her version of a music video
is a little different. Whitney is leaving on a plane to go start her new life. She does not want to
leave him as it shows with her hands on the window as the plane is taking off. He puts his hand u
as saying goodbye as she is going up in the air. This is also about a relationship that the song is
not. The two versions of the song show ethos. They want to appeal to emotions and sadness. The
Since the song is the same the audience is directed towards females. It is directed with the
idea of romance and a relationship. Even though the song is not towards relationships most
The iconic song written by Dolly Parton but sang by both Parton and Houston made the
song a hit across centuries at a time. While neither artist sang this song about a love story the
audience took it that way even in the music videos. The song appeals to our emotions because it
