What to Eat

Choose minimally processed, whole foods:

 Whole grains (whole wheat, steel cut oats, brown rice, quinoa)

 Vegetables (a colorful variety-not potatoes)

 Whole fruits (except banana and mango)

 Nuts, seeds, beans, and other healthful sources of protein (fish and poultry)

 Plant oils (olive and other vegetable oils)

Limit these foods and drinks:

 Sugar-sweetened beverages (soda, fruit drinks, sports drinks)

 Fruit juice (no more than a small amount per day)

 Refined grains (white bread, white rice, white pasta) and sweets

 Potatoes (baked or fried)

 Red meat (beef , lamb) and processed meats

 Other highly processed foods, such as fast food


Other weight control tips:
Eat slowly, and stop when satisfied.

Eat only while seated at a table.

Use smaller plates and bowls.

Drink calorie-free beverages.

Choose higher fiber, and higher water content foods.

Choose lean meat and skinless poultry.

Limit alcohol.

Use low fat-cooking methods and avoid fried foods.

Limit added fats. Eat more vegetables and salads.

Limit sweets and empty calories

Drink plenty of water
