Product Description 1 Product Positioning and Features

Carrying Mobile Services from Small-Cell Base Stations

Because macro base stations provide uneven and inflexible coverage, small-cell base stations
featuring small sizes, light weights, and adaptation to any installation environments are used
together with macro base stations on mobile networks.
However, installation and deployment of small-cell base stations and their bearer equipment on
live networks encounter many difficulties because of their large quantity, wide distribution and
various installation environments. In addition, site selection, maintenance, and power supply
also encounter many difficulties.
In the Huawei mobile bearer solution, ATN 905 functions as bearer equipment for small-cell
base stations and benefits:
l Anywhere: ATN 905 is available in the indoor and outdoor types and can be installed in
various environments where small-cell base stations are installed.

l Plug-and-play: Plug-and-play enables NEs to automatically go online and implements

service provisioning in batches and remote commissioning in a centralized manner, thereby
improving the maintenance efficiency and reducing costs.
l Power over Ethernet (PoE): ATN 905 can supply power to small-cell base stations and
radio equipment over Ethernet electrical ports, requiring less space and contributing to
environmental protection.
Figure 1-1 shows networking of the mobile bearer solution to which ATN 905 belongs. As
bearer NEs for small-cell base stations, ATN 905s using a link topology are connected to access
NEs at the macro base station side and are extension of the ATN+CX IPRAN solution (IPRAN
is the abbreviated form of IP radio access network). This scheme enables E2E clocks and E2E
maintenance for the macro base station bearer solution. It is cost-effective, easy to deploy, and
easy to maintain.

NOTE

In the IPRAN macro base station backhaul network solution, ATN 905 is supported in the following modes:
l Native IP mode: If IPRAN uses a Layer 3 solution, such as, the hierarchy VPN (HVPN) solution, it is
recommended that ATN 905 connect to the IPRAN macro base station backhaul network in Native IP
mode, which facilitates deployment of end to end (E2E) Layer 3 IP connectivity and performance check
schemes.
l Native ETH: If IPRAN uses E2E Layer 2 solution or L2+L3 mixed VPN, it is recommended that ATN
905 connect to the IPRAN macro base station backhaul network in Native ETH mode, which facilitates
transparent transmission and processing of E2E Layer 2 VLAN packets.

Carrying Enterprise Leased Line Services

Generally, customer premises equipment (CPE) that bears enterprise leased line services
connects to a provider edge (PE) through optical fibers or a leased third-part network as shown
in Figure 1-2.

Figure 1-2 CPE directly connecting to a carrier network

A CPE is often far away from a PE. If a fault occurs, it is difficult to locate whether the fault
occurs on the optical fiber, leased network, enterprise network, or carrier network.

ATN 905 Multi-service Access Equipment
Product Description 1 Product Positioning and Features

ATN 905 can be deployed as an Ethernet demarcation device (EDD) directly connected to CPE
and sharing the same equipment room with the CPE as shown in Figure 1-3. In this way, the
carrier network extends to the client side and the provider can manage the network between the
EDD and the PE.

Figure 1-3 CPE connecting to a carrier network through an EDD

In the Huawei enterprise service bearer solution, ATN 905 functioning as an EDD has the
following advantages:
l Supports IP forward performance monitoring (FPM), tests without requiring meters at sites,
quality of service (QoS), and quick fault sectionalization and location complying with RFC
2544.
– Supports 802.1Q in 802.1Q (QinQ) for separating user VLANs and carrier VLANs,
facilitating fault sectionalization.
– Supports dying gasp so that equipment reports an alarm when experiencing power
outage.
l Support real-time performance management through periodical tests and statistics on E2E
service performance including the throughput, delay, and packet loss rate, service level
agreement (SLA) compliance reports.
Figure 1-4 and Figure 1-5 show basic networking of the enterprise service bearer solution to
which ATN 905 belongs.
l With the help of the current IPRAN, ATN 905 can connect to the IPRAN macro base station
backhaul network. On the E2E ATN+CX network, enhanced ATN functions, such as DCN
plug and play and RFC 2544-compliant IP FPM, can be deployed to improve the network
operation and maintenance efficiency.
NOTE

In the IPRAN macro base station backhaul network solution, ATN 905 can also connect to the macro
base station backhaul network in Native IP or Native ETH mode.

Features and Functions Description

Traffic Policing CAR is mainly used for rate limit. In

the implementation of CAR, a token
bucket is used to measure the data
flows that pass through the interfaces
on a router so that only the packets
assigned with tokens can go through
the router in the specified time period.
In this manner, the rates of both
incoming and outgoing traffic are
controlled.

Queue Scheduling Supports PQ adn WFQ for queue

scheduling on interfaces. Maps
packets of different priorities to
different queues and adopts Round
Robin (RR) on each interface for
queue scheduling.

Congestion Supports congestion avoidance.

Avoidance Monitor the usage of network
resources (such as queues and buffers
in the memory) and discard packets
when the network congestion
intensifies to avoid network overload
by adjusting network traffic.
Random Early Detection (RED) or
Weighted Random Early Detection
(WRED) algorithms are frequently
used in congestion avoidance.

HQoS l Provides three levels of scheduling

modes to ensure diverse services.
l Sets parameters such as WRED,
low delay, SP/WFQ, CBS, PBS,
and statistics function for each
queue.
l Sets parameters such as the CIR,
PIR, number of queues, and
algorithm for scheduling queues
for each user.
l Supports HQoS in the L3VPN
scenario.
l Supports interface-based and
VLAN-based HQoS.

QoS for Ethernet Performs simple traffic classification

according to the 802.1p field in VLAN
packets.

Features and Functions Description

Complex Traffic During complex traffic classification,

Classification packets are classified by source/
destination address, source/
destination port number, protocol
type, or other attributes. Traffic is
classified based on certain rules and
class-specific behaviors (traffic
control or resource allocation) are
performed on the traffic, enabling
class-based traffic policing, traffic
shaping, and congestion avoidance,
and providing differentiated service to
user services.
l Supports complex traffic
classification configuration in the
ingress direction at UNI-side
interfaces. UNI-side interfaces
include main interfaces, sub-
interfaces, ports+VLANs, trunk
interfaces, and trunk sub-
interfaces.
l Classifies traffic by the source
MAC address, destination MAC
address, ID of the protocol carried
at the link layer, VLAN, and
802.1p priority, which are carried
in Ethernet packet headers.
l Classifies traffic by IP priority/
DSCP/ToS value, source IP
address prefix, destination IP
address prefix, ID of the protocol
carried in IP packets,
fragmentation flag, TCPSYN flag,
TCP/UDP source port number or
port number range, and TCP/UDP
destination port number or port
number range, ICMP flag, and
time range flag, which are carried
with IPv4 packets.
l Supports implementing behaviors
on the classified traffic such as
CAR, Permit/Deny , remarking

Product Description 2 Product Features and Functions

Features and Functions Description

Traffic Policing CAR is mainly used for rate limit. In

the implementation of CAR, a token
bucket is used to measure the data
flows that pass through the interfaces
on a router so that only the packets
assigned with tokens can go through
the router in the specified time period.
In this manner, the rates of both
incoming and outgoing traffic are
controlled.

Queue Scheduling Supports PQ adn WFQ for queue

scheduling on interfaces. Maps
packets of different priorities to
different queues and adopts Round
Robin (RR) on each interface for
queue scheduling.

Congestion Supports congestion avoidance.

Avoidance Monitor the usage of network
resources (such as queues and buffers
in the memory) and discard packets
when the network congestion
intensifies to avoid network overload
by adjusting network traffic.
Random Early Detection (RED) or
Weighted Random Early Detection
(WRED) algorithms are frequently
used in congestion avoidance.

HQoS l Provides three levels of scheduling

modes to ensure diverse services.
l Sets parameters such as WRED,
low delay, SP/WFQ, CBS, PBS,
and statistics function for each
queue.
l Sets parameters such as the CIR,
PIR, number of queues, and
algorithm for scheduling queues
for each user.
l Supports HQoS in the L3VPN
scenario.
l Supports interface-based and
VLAN-based HQoS.

QoS for Ethernet Performs simple traffic classification

according to the 802.1p field in VLAN
packets.

4.3 Swappable Optical/Electrical Modules

The ATN 905 does not provide optical interfaces, whereas the panel provides interfaces for
installing optical modules. The optical modules receive and transmit optical signals and convert
electrical and optical signals. The interfaces for installing optical modules can also be used for
installing electrical modules to transmit electrical signals.

4.3.1 Overview
Optical and electrical modules for ATN 905 are hot swappable. Optical modules transmit
services using optical signals over fibers and electrical modules transmit services using electrical
signals over Ethernet cables.

Classification
Optical modules for ATN 905 can be classified as follows:
l By service and rate: FE, GE, and 10GE modules
l By packaging: SFP, enhanced SFP (eSFP), and XFP modules
– SFP and eSFP optical modules are used to support FE and GE services. Compared with
SFP modules, eSFP modules provide one more function, that is, performance reporting.
– XFP modules are used to support 10GE services.
l By usage scenario: business and industry modules
– When an ATN device is operating at a temperature ranging from -20 °C to 60 °C,
business modules apply.
– When an ATN device is operating at a temperature outside the range of -20 °C to 60 °
C (for example, -40 °C to 65 °C), industry modules apply.
Electrical modules for ATN 905 are all SFP modules, which are used to support FE or GE
services.

Appearance
Optical and electrical modules have different appearance because they use different packaging
and cable interfaces.
SFP and eSFP optical modules have the same appearance. Currently, optical modules for ATN
905 are all eSFP modules. Figure 4-7 shows the eSFP optical module appearance.

Single-fiber Two-fiber
bidirectional bidirectional

NOTE

eSFP optical modules are further classified into single-fiber bidirectional modules and dual-fiber
bidirectional modules.
l A single-fiber bidirectional module provides only one LC interface for connecting to one fiber. It
receives and sends optical signals in one fiber but over two different wavelengths.
l A dual-fiber bidirectional module provides two LC interfaces for connecting to two fibers. It receives
and sends optical signals in two different fibers.

Figure 4-8 SFP electrical module appearance

Application
An optical or electrical module can be used at an optical interface if its packaging and service
rate can match the interface.
Packaging:
l SFP optical interfaces use SFP/eSFP optical or electrical modules.
l XFP optical interfaces use XFP optical modules.
Service rate:
l FE and STM-1 optical interfaces match FE optical or electrical modules.
l GE optical interfaces match GE optical or electrical modules.
l FE/GE optical interfaces match FE/GE optical or electrical modules.

l 10GE optical interfaces match 10GE optical modules.

NOTE

In most cases, an optical or electrical module can be used at an optical interface if its packaging and service
rate can match the interface. Some boards do not support electrical modules. For information about the
modules that a board supports, see the Functions and Features topic for the board.

4.4.2 Ethernet Cables

On the ATN 905, Ethernet cables are used to input and output Ethernet service signals.
Ethernet cables are also referred to as network cables and can be classified into straight-through
cables and crossover cables according to the connection sequence of the copper cores in the
cables.
A network cable with a shield layer is a shielded cable and that without a shield layer is a non-
shielded cable.

NOTE

Based on the application scenarios, Ethernet cables are classified into two types: indoor Ethernet cables
and outdoor Ethernet cables. When outdoor ATN 905 devices are installed outdoors, the outdoor Ethernet
cables delivered with the devices must be used.

The Ethernet service interfaces on the equipment are adaptive to the straight-through cables and
crossover cables. Hence, you can connect either type of the network cables to the Ethernet service
interfaces as required.
Ethernet cables need to be made on site.

4.4.3 Optical Fibers

On the ATN 905, optical fibers are used to input and output Ethernet service signals.

NOTE

In different application scenarios, indoor and outdoor ATN 905 devices use different optical fibers.
Specifically, indoor ATN 905 devices use indoor optical fibers and outdoor ATN 905 devices must use
outdoor optical fibers when installed outdoors.

Indoor Optical Fibers

Indoor optical fibers include single-mode optical fibers and multi-mode optical fibers. The
appearances of a single-mode optical fiber and a multi-mode optical fiber are the same, but their
colors are different. The single-mode optical fiber is yellow, and the multi-mode optical fiber is
orange.

Figure 4-16 shows the appearance of a single-mode optical fiber.

IMB Network Cabinet

The IMB network cabinet supports the IP31 protection rating, and can be wall mounted indoors,
in the corridor, and in the weak current well.

A small-sized IMB network cabinet has a compact structure and occupies only a little installation
space. In addition, it can be installed on an uneven wall with an undulation smaller than 10 mm,
so it has low requirements on site selection.

The IMB network cabinet provides a 3 U installation space for user devices. The internal 2 U
installation space is for an ATN device and the external 1 U installation space is for a power
supply device. Figure 4-20 and Figure 4-21 show the appearance and structure of an IMB
network cabinet.
