Chapter 4 Company Analysis

History
Okada Manila Leisure and Entertainment was issued a casino license in the
Entertainment City in 2008. The casino complex, which was formerly known as Manila Bay
Resorts, was renamed Okada Manila in June 2016. Okada intends to use the facility to compete
with Macau casinos and to place Metro Manila as a regional and international destination. The
casino was supposed to open in November 2016, but it was postponed due to worse-than-
expected weather conditions. The Fountain was formally opened to invited guests on March 31,
2017. The casino opened the attraction to the general public the next day. The casino's
operations were greatly impacted by the Enhanced community quarantine in Luzon placed due
to the COVID-19 pandemic, with 1,000 of its 10,000 employees laid off in June 2020.

Organizational Structure
Byron Yip, the COO of Okada Manila, has been promoted to the role of president of the
casino hotel. Yip succeeds Takashi Oya, who also served as co-vice chairman of Tiger Resort,
Leisure and Entertainment, the Philippine-based corporation that runs the property as a
subsidiary of Japan's Universal Entertainment Corp. Yip's duties have included Okada Manila's
casino. Yip, who heads the overseas business division of Tokyo-listed Universal, has led Okada
Manila to phenomenal growth and has made it a leading integrated resort in terms of gross
gaming revenue in the Philippines. The resort is one of three destination-scale casinos currently
operating in Entertainment City, a special district of the Philippines capital. Tiger also declared
Manuel Lazaro's election as chairman and Takako Okada and Antonio Cojuangco's election as
co-vice chairs.

Mission Statement Audit

Okada Manila will reimagine Philippine entertainment and gaming. The company also
intends for it to become the country's iconic landmark for world-class entertainment and endless
fun, delighting and charming tourists from the Philippines and around the world.

Current Company’s Strategies

Okada Manila is an award-winning, multi-disciplinary branding and marketing agency
based in Hong Kong with offices across Asia and Europe. It provides a diverse range of
services with a single aim in mind: development. Using an integrated branding strategy and
marketing services, the company will help a brand communicate with their target audience and
increase sales.
The Philippine travel and tourism industry grew by 4.9 percent in 2017, owing to the
country's growing international popularity as a tourist destination and the government’s recent
infrastructure development plan. There has been an increase in both global and hotel growth in
the region, with the goal of addressing growing hotel occupancy rates for visitors, business
travelers, international consultants, and expatriates residing, which has helped in fueling the
strong demand for hotel accommodations. Okada Manila, through product innovation, have
provided not only a location for the traditional bed and breakfast, but also a modern venture of
quality service for hotels and offering entertainment from bars, restaurants, and shows all
located and all for the benefit of its guests, which is now known as "Integrated resorts."

Level of Priority of Company Strategies

Leisure and Entertainment collaborate at Okada Manila to make the Philippines the
number one entertainment destination in Southeast Asia. The organization takes pride in being
able to bring the best to the table, promoting team spirit, greater understanding, and active
teamwork, resulting in a project that will make the Philippines proud. It is made up of highly
qualified, creative, and inspired individuals from all nationalities and backgrounds. The company
also believes that there is strength in numbers, especially when it comes to working toward a
common goal.

Customer Value Model

Okada Manila works with a variety of customers on a regular basis. They must think
creatively, strive to outsmart their rivals, provide an outstanding experience to their guests, and
remain continuously changing. There are always exciting developments happening in this
business, as well as new challenges. People want younger and more diverse experiences.
They're all looking for the world-class service that can deliver on that level of experience. And
Okada is bringing it to the Philippines.

Competitive Advantage of the Company

Okada Manila, one of Asia's largest and most exciting entertainment destinations, is
undergoing a digital transformation, embracing technology to improve the service it offers to its
customers. Okada's digitalization journey has been overseen from the ground up, and it focuses
on how the business has changed over the last few years. Since Okada Manila was the first
Japanese-owned casino resort to open, there was no prior legacy structure to fall back on.
When it first came on board, the challenge was to start from scratch. It was a blank slate, and
they had to go through the property and hand-pick every single device. You don't want to use
legacy or out-of-date AS400 systems during this phase because you want to keep updated with
newer advancements and technologies. Since they aren't struggling with an older past, the
organization believes it has given them an advantage. The company's ability to adapt and
evolve gives it an advantage over competitors, as they can be more flexible. The company
receives a lot of support from its parent company, UEC, which is a gaming technology company
that provided some of the key gaming components, and has beaten some of its own rivals in
many ways by launching advanced gaming technologies that are helping to propel the industry
into the next decade.

Specific Strategy
Okada Manila is introducing new policies in the resort complex, including best practices
and creative approaches focused on new government regulations. Strengthened protective
measures are also in place throughout the property, beginning with the practice of physical
distancing and the wearing of face masks in public spaces. With the addition of advanced
cleaning equipment such as disinfection chambers, ultraviolet scanners, and high-end cleaning
robots, Okada Manila has improved its sanitation and emergency protocols. Throughout the
community quarantine, the resort remained completely compliant with government
requirements, even going above and beyond the minimum health and safety measures by
implementing industry-leading procedures across its grounds. The company's 3T campaign
aligns with government policies and allows Okada Manila to modify its own approach to
prioritize the health and safety of its guests and employees. The resort pledges to continue
working with the government to provide a secure destination for potential visitors.
