    Definition Essay

    What does the word life mean to you? This is a question that could get 100 different

    responses, but there is an actual definition of this word. The definition according to the online

    dictionary is “the condition that distinguishes organisms from inorganic objects and dead

    organisms, being manifested by growth through metabolism, reproduction, and the power of

    adaptation to environment through changes originating internally.” Now this may be true, but

    there is a deeper meaning such as striving for happiness, love, and success.

    In my opinion, striving for happiness is key. It brings out your own meaning of life,

    because if you are not happy, you feel as though you have no meaning in life. For example,

    someone who is depressed because of different reasons, could say that they have no meaning in

    life because they are not happy and don’t strive for happiness. But, someone who is happy can

    see what their meaning of life is. You create your own meaning in life as you develop happiness,

    and that turns out to be different for everyone.

    Love plays into happiness. Love makes you feel happy. They both go into creating a

    meaning in life. When you love someone, and feel loved by someone, your meaning in life

    means something different. You are not only focusing on yourself, but you are focusing on

    someone else in a way that you might not have expressed before and are creating a meaning in

    life for each other. Someone who could’ve grown up in a hostile environment who might not

    have had the chance to feel loved, or someone who hasn't met “the love of their life” could argue

    against this. They might see their meaning in life differently because the “love” portion in their

    life is missing. Overall, love plays a big role in life.

    Lastly, success is a key part of defining your meaning in life. It also plays a role in

    happiness, the more successful you are whether it is with work, sports, or school, the happier you
    will be. I believe that with work for example, if you do something that you enjoy and makes you

    happy, the more successful you will be. Part of your meaning in life is making a difference, and

    that can be the success portion of your life.

    In conclusion, life can be put into many different definitions because everyone creates

    their own definition and meaning of life. I believe that it comes from happiness, love, and

    success. Other people may say they don’t have a meaning in life or that it comes from other

    sources, and that is why there are infinite definitions to life and not just one from the online

    dictionary. What is your definition of life?
