Question 1: Why the study of medical terms is important to healthcare
managers?
Answer 1: Medical terminology is the basis of communication used by
doctors, nurses, health care providers, medical transcriptionists, medical
office assistants and medical billers. There is a basic requirement of
medical terminology, even for people involved in billing and insurance
claims processing. It is useful for both the people involved in the
medical field, as well as to the patient who is curious to know more
about medicine.
Being a health care manager, we have to deal with the records and
prescription written by doctors and we have to analyze those data and
make proper use of it. As we have to do advertisement of hospital and its
services, so these medical terms and diseases and surgeries are required
to be introduced into advt.
Question 2: Analyze the concept that elementary component of each

medical word is the root with various examples?
Answer 2: yes, it is true that the elementary component of each medical
word is the root, coz if we take any of the root in medical dictionary, it
has been originated from sum medical word. Because the origin of these
word is from the root. For example, the word cardiac is derived from
root cardia, which means heart.
The word gastric or gastritis is originated from root gastro, means
stomach.
Similarly the word hepatitis is derived from the root hepatic, which
means liver and hepatitis means inflammation of liver.
The medical word becomes the root and is used to either name the organ
or to describe the disease condition or its usage or to simplify it in its
pronunciation.
Question 3: What are the various functions performed by human body
for maintenance of life?
Answer 3: There are various functions performed by the human body
for maintenance of life, these are:-
(1) Respiration is the function performed by the lungs. It is breathing,
it helps in inspiration and expiration and thus maintaining proper
amount of oxygen and carbon dioxide in the body.
(2) Circulation is the function performed by the heart, it helps in
pumping of the blood throughout the body. Thus making the blood
available to each and every tissue and part of body.
(3) Excretion is the function performed by the kidneys, it helps in
maintaining homeostasis in the body and helps in filtering the
blood and also helps in formation of urine.
(4) Digestion is the major process of our body. The food which we eat,
passes through esophagus into our stomach and then it is churned
and absorbed and assimilated over there and further the waste is
removed from the body through the process of egestion. Digestion
involves other functions such as ingestion, absorption, assimilation
and egestion.
Question 4: Identify any five prefixes and analyze the meaning

with example?
Answer 4:-
1) Primitive :- prim means first
And primitive means occurring first in time.
2) Polysaccharide:- poly means much, many.
And polysaccharide means consisting of many sugars,
3) Cyanosis:- cyan means blue
And cyanosis means bluish discoloration of skin.
4) Erythrocyte:- erythr means red
And erythrocyte means red blood cells.
5) Xanthoderma:- xanth means yellow.
Xanthoderma means yellow coloration of skin.
Question 5:- Identify any five suffixes and analyze the meaning
with example?
Answer 5:-
1) hem/o (blood) + -rhage (bursting forth) = hemorrhage (a bursting

forth of blood).
2) men/o (menses) + -rhea (flow, discharge) = menorrhea (menstrual

flow).
3) -y tetany = sustained muscle contraction
4) Iatrics = geriatrics = study and treatment of the aged.
5) Ist= specialist in the field of study,
Cardiologist= specialist in the study and treatment of heart.

Question 6:- Give healthcare explanation for the following symptoms
and sign:
a) Bradycardia (b) Malaise (c) Gangrene (d) Shock (e)
Haematemesis. .
Answer 6:-
(a) Bradycardia – Decreased rate of heart beat.
(b) Malaise – A vague feeling of discomfort, or uneasiness felt by

person. It is usually prior to any illness or ill condition
(c) Gangrene – It is defined as the death of area of the body. It

develops when the blood supply gets cut off from the affected
part as a result of various processes, such as infection, vascular
disease or trauma. It leads to necrosis of that part.
(d) Shock – This is a condition brought about by sudden decreased

flow of blood supply throughout the body. This is due to failure
of circulatory system to maintain adequate blood flow, thus
leading to shock.
(e) Haematemesis – It is due to presence of blood in the vomiting.
