KELLY W. BURNS | Producer, Stage and Music
Director (The Telephone)
Lyric tenor Kelly W. Burns is an active performer
of opera, musical theater, recitals and concert works
throughout North America with musical organiza-
tions such as the Chautauqua Opera, Opera Roanoke,
Memphis Symphony Orchestra, Roanoke Symphony
Orchestra, and Opera Project Columbus. Kelly’s reper-
toire includes leading and supporting roles in operas and musicals such as Don
Giovanni, The Magic Flute, The Elixir of Love, Rigoletto, Sweeney Todd, and A
Little Night Music as well as tenor solos in Handel’s Messiah, Bach’s Magnificat
and Mass in B Minor, Mozart’s Requiem, and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9. As
music director and conductor, Kelly has led productions of Le nozze di Figaro,
Man of La Mancha, Hairspray, and Beauty and the Beast and has prepared cho-
ruses for The Pirates of Penzance and The Magic Flute. Kelly recently joined
the Challey School of Music faculty as assistant professor of voice. He serves as
Artistic Director of NDSU Opera and teaches voice lessons and lyric diction. He
is also co-founder of the Unity Series of Artists at NDSU.

KARISA TEMPLETON | Stage and Music


Director (Musical Theater Concert)
Soprano Karisa L. Templeton is assistant professor
of voice at North Dakota State University. An active
performer of opera and avid art song enthusiast, she
performs frequently in recital and concert. Karisa
enjoys programming lesser-known compositions from
historically underrepresented groups including women
and composers of color. She has sung with Opera on the
Avalon, The Princeton Opera Festival, New Voices Opera, Reimagining Opera
for Kids, and the Beijing Festival Chorus. Her operatic roles include Helena from
Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Cleopatra from Handel’s Giulio Cesare,
Donna Elvira from Mozart’s Don Giovanni, Sifare from Mozart’s Mitridate,
Queen from Martin’s The True Story of Cinderella, Dido from Purcell’s Dido and
Aeneas, and Laurie from Copland’s The Tender Land. Karisa received the BM in
Music Education with an emphasis in Voice and Choral Studies from Cedarville
University and an MM in Voice Performance & Pedagogy from Westminster
Choir College. She completed her doctoral coursework in music at the Indiana
University Jacobs School of Music.
