Community Affiliates
The Foundation supports 17 local, volunteer-led foundations
through the Community Affiliates program. Every year, these
affiliate foundations grant thousands of dollars into local
communities. Community members drive the grantmaking
process of each affiliate and community fundraising and
outreach efforts helps build permanent funds to invest in their
region for years to come.

Reporting to the Chief Investment Officer (CIO), the Director of Investor Relations is a new role on the Saint Paul & Minnesota
Foundation's investment team. Working closely with investment committees and professional asset managers, the investment
team stewards $1.7B in charitable assets to support the long-term growth of the Foundation and its affiliates, The Foundation
manages over 400 nonprofit endowment funds, ensuring secure annual income and offering other investment funding, education
and capacity building resources for the 200+ nonprofits it serves.

Within this context, this highly collaborative position will serve as a vital communications link between the Foundation’s many
stakeholders and the Investment team. This role will provide subject matter expertise and serve as the primary point of contact
for internal collaborators in Marketing, Philanthropic Services and Community Relations. With core knowledge of investment
concepts and the ability to contextualize information for different audiences, this role is instrumental in telling the story of the
Investment team’s innovative approach and mission-aligned investment solutions to achieve maximum impact.

Note that this is not an analyst or fund manager role but rather a liaison who deeply understands investment principles and can
effectively communicate, on behalf of the CIO, about the Foundation’s investment capabilities, innovative funding opportunities
and impact strategy.

Essential Responsibilities
• Act as the primary liaison between the Foundation and the public on investment-related matters.
• Curate and maintain a positive public image of the Foundation’s investment solutions, approach and team.
• Meet with donors, financial advisors, non-profit endowments and prospects to effectively communicate the
Foundation’s investment capabilities.
• Present the Foundation’s investment portfolios and investment strategy in conjunction with the Philanthropic
Services team; assist with inbound request for proposals.
• Develop deep working knowledge of the Foundation’s many audiences and effectively cater investment
communications to each constituency.
• Liaise across the Foundation’s internal teams to identify and partner within the organization on mission-aligned
investment story telling.
• Analyze Foundation activities and investment approaches to continuously identify external networking opportunities.
• Attend conferences/panels on behalf of the Foundation’s investment team to further our role as a leader and
innovator in the foundation and endowment space for both traditional and mission investing audiences.
• Research and develop working knowledge of mission investing principles; assist CIO in developing and managing the
mission investing opportunity pipeline.
• Develop the Foundation’s strategy for communicating our UN PRI signatory commitments.
• Demonstrate the Foundation's core organizational values in performing all duties. 5

Additional Responsibilities
• Collaborate with Marketing/Communications team to update investment communication materials.
• Manage outside consulting resources to ensure successful project expectations, timelines and completions.
• Participate in communication with and sourcing of committee/board members as appropriate.
• Attend board/committee meetings across constituencies and share information on behalf of the investment team, as appropriate.

Qualifications
• Strong knowledge of investment concepts and principles, and the ability to effectively communicate complex investment and
financial information to a range of audiences.
• Familiarity with the “endowment model” of investing; donor advised funds, charitable trusts and impact investing.
• Strong business communications skills on a variety of platforms; prior experience with social media relations is helpful.
• Ability to perceive nuanced differences in individual and audience communication needs and adjust communication accordingly.
• Passion for amplifying the impact opportunities that mission based investing can unlock through compelling story telling that
inspires donors, nonprofits, philanthropic foundations and other stakeholders.
• Demonstrated ability to establish trust, credibility and influence as an individual contributor, to effectively lead initiatives, drive
results, and work cross-functionally with colleagues at all levels.
• Ability to effectively manage competing priorities, build consensus, navigate different workstyles, resolve misunderstandings, and
facilitate productive communication to ensure stakeholders are aligned and their needs are met.
• Strong analytical and proactive problem-solving skills.
• Ability to effectively collaborate with people from diverse cultural backgrounds and with a range of passions including social
justice, equity, advocacy, community collaborations and other interests.
• Commitment to a personal, ongoing journey developing cultural competency.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience/training is required.
• Minimum of eight years' professional experience in investor relations or similar public-facing role (advising, planning, client
services, wealth management, business development, donor engagement, etc.) in a relevant industry/sector (such as investment
management, philanthropic foundations, nonprofit development, etc.)

Compensation and Benefits

The compensation for this position is $155,000-$175,000 and includes participation in the Foundation’s benefits plan which includes
ample paid time off, group health and pre-tax savings plans, and a retirement plan with generous matching funds.
