ZXSDR R8852E Product Description

1 Overview

1.1 Introduction

This document provides a high level description of ZTE ZXSDR R8852E (hereinafter
referred to as R8852E), which is the latest compact RRU (Remote Radio Unit) used in
ZTE wireless communication solution. Based on ZTE common innovative SDR platform,
R8852E can work in GSM, or LTE single mode or dual-mode ,and also can work in
GSM/LTE multi-mode in different frequency band. The volume of R8852E is 12 L, and its
weight is 16 kg.

R8852E features as small volume, high integration, wide working bandwidth and high
output power.

The document is designed to give an overview of the characteristics of R8852E. Three

types are introduced in this document, 1800 MHz ,2100 MHz and 900MHz, with its key
benefits, the architecture, functionality and services. The document also describes the
system capabilities.

ZXSDR R8852E Product Description

1.2 Benefits

 Smallest Size, High Integration

R8852E, with 2 * 80W rack top output power, has the smallest size in the industry.
With improvement in material and design, R8852E has smaller size than previous
product, saving 30% in weight and 40% in volume. It provides convenience in
transportation, installation and maintenance. It has lower load bearing requirements
for tower or poles to be installed on. This saves CAPEX for operators.

 Full working bandwidth, High output power, High performance

R8852E has 2*80W of high TOC output power. It enables operators to deploy sites
with large capacity & high output power for each cell, helps to absorb more traffic
and provide better signal for subscribers.

As frequency spectrums become scarce, resources allocated for operators tend to

be characterized with fragmentation and large span. RRUs with full working
bandwidth integrate more spectrum resources and help to decrease hardware
investment exponentially.

 SDR 2T4R design to ensure one clear and simple network

R8852E supports GSM, UMTS and LTE multiple technologies or supports GSM/LTE
multiple technologies. Design of R8852E 2T4R channels ensures the smooth
evolution of the system from GSM to LTE 2*4 MIMO. Instead of running hardware
on independent platforms for each technology, operators can implement various
wireless technologies through software configuration on the same hardware platform.
It fully satisfies operators’ requirements of hybrid network deployment and long term
evolution with lowest cost.

 Lower Total Cost of Ownership (TCO)

ZXSDR R8852E’s PA adopts advanced efficiency enhancement technologies to

realize high power efficiency, such as Doherty PA, DPD linear technology and MCPA

technology. It also supports dynamic adaptive PA power supply due to the output
power. Power consumption can be greatly decreased together with these features.

1.3 Application Scenarios

R8852E as the Remote Radio Unit and Baseband Unit (BBU) comprise distributed macro
base station BS8700. R8852E is suitable for high traffic area. Typical deployment
scenarios of R8852E are shown in the following figure:

2.2 Functionality

R8852E is the remote radio unit of distributed base station. The signal is transmitted/
received through R8852E to/from base band processing unit for further processing via
standard CPRI interface.

By applying the distributed system, the feeder loss will be eliminated when the radio unit
is positioned close to the antenna. The coverage is enlarged with this solution.
