    1.2 Match the sentence with the correct word. Select the word from the options in
    the box.

    1. If you are doing new things or activities that are not familiar to you, that

    2. Grammar clues.
    2.1. Verb to be in the past

    When you use the verb to be in past, it is not necessary to add an extra verb. For
    instance:

    I was work ✖️
    I was worked ✖️

    So, what kind of things can you add? You can add adjectives, occupations, places,
    feelings, prepositions of place for example.

    I was on vacation ✔️
    It was comfortable ✔️
    We were with our parents ✔️
    They were in London ✔️

    2.2 Simple past tense

    Remember that simple past is used with actions that started in the past and they are
    already finished. Take into account the REGULAR and IRREGULAR verbs. (Regular verbs
    end in ED - Irregular verbs change completely).

    Example:

    I went to the doctor.

    For negative sentences and questions (yes/no questions and information questions) use
    the auxiliary did. Remember: For negative sentences and questions, do not conjugate
    the verb in the past form.

    Example: I didn’t go to the doctor.

    Did you go to the doctor? Yes, I did. / no, I didn’t.

    What did you eat last night?

    3. Practice the clues


    3.1. Complete each of the following sentences with the correct form of the verb to be
    in past.

     I ________ tired this morning. (Affirmative)


     How _________ the food at the airport? (interrogative)

     Sebastian and Camilo __________ in Mexico for five days. (Affirmative)

    4. Clues in context

    Yesterday it was a great day. I traveled


    with my family and we had a great time
    together. We went to Cancun, Mexico
    and we stayed in a nice hotel near the
    amazing beaches this city has. The people
    were so friendly and warm. Unfortunately,
    my dad lost his wallet but someone
    returned it. Also, the weather was
    amazing, so spent the whole afternoon
    on the beach, drinking tropical cocktails
    and eating delicious food. We also took
    some gorgeous pictures to remember this
    experience. At the end we bought some
    souvenirs for our family and close friends.
    We did a lot of things on this trip that I
    can’t describe it all! It was wonderful.
