Activity 1.

1. What is Prenatal Development?


The process of growth and development within the womb this process will happen after
the sperm cell meets egg cell to fertilize. Prenatal development is divided into 3 periods
and lasts approximately 266-280 days.
2. What are the different stages of prenatal development, and what happens during each
stage?
• Germinal Period – zygote created
• Embryonic Period – occurs from 2 to 8 weeks after conception. Embryonic stage plays
an important role in the development of the brain.
• Fetal Period - begins 2 months after conception and lasts until birth. The fetal period of
prenatal develop marks more important changes in the brain.
3. What are the factors/influences that can affect prenatal development?
a. Maternal illness
b. Maternal infections
c. Toxin exposures
d. Nutritional deficiencies
4. List down and explain different hazards that occur during prenatal development.
a. Teratogen: any agent that can cause a birth defect or negatively alter cognitive
and behavioral outcomes
b. Prescription and Non-prescription drugs – a drug that can affect the child.
Prescription teratogens include antibiotics. Non-prescription teratogens include
aspirin and diet pills.
c. Psychoactive Drugs – drugs that act on the nervous system to alter states of
consciousness, modify, and change moods.
d. Incompatible blood type – can cause mother immune system to produce
antibodies that will attack the fetus.
e. Environmental hazards – pollution in the environment can also affect the health of
the mother that will affect the health of her child.
f. Maternal factors – Emotional and stress can affect the child development while in
the prenatal development.
g. Paternal factors – Exposure to teratogens could affect the birth of the child.
5. What is the importance of prenatal care?
 Prenatal care is a type of caring the infant inside of the mother. This prenatal
care serves to monitor or assess the development of the infant into normal
states.
6. Which method of childbirth do you prefer? Why?
 I prefer natural childbirth because this is the tradition type of giving birth to
the child.
7. Are you in favor of assisted reproduction? Why or why not?
 I am favor to this assisted reproduction because not all women are able to give
birth because their body can’t. If the assisted reproduction is the only way to
give them chance to have a baby, then we must support them to this kind of
assisted reproduction.
8. Are you in favor of abortion? Why?
 No, every child that inside of women is deserve to be born. Why having sex
without protection if in the end they will abort the child? That’s why we must
have an enough knowledge before having sex with someone.

terms of the given traits in the table
2. Place a mark in the corresponding column on the basis of:
 To whom the characteristics is/are patterned – father or mother
 Whether similarities are also in your brother or sister
 Whether differences are also in your brother or sister
3. Identify order of birth of your brother and or your sister
4. Which traits are seen and which traits are unseen?
5. Are the negative traits harmful to yourself? If so, what are you going to do about them? If
the traits are inherited can you change them? Why or why not?
